CHAPTER 21: SETTLING.

Where necessary, she would lie. If unnecessary, she would omit certain truths about her. Tyler held down his rage, dominance growing within him that his Mate was held under scrutiny. He didn't like it.“Since her presence is more important than the issue with the other packs, I will hold off on reporting about how things went. Does she have powers? Yes. Would she be staying? Yes. That ends it. Good night elders. We will discuss any more details tomorrow.”Elder Ryan slammed his hands on the table. He rose to his full length, his blue eyes filled with rage. He was tall but not taller than Tyler. His voice was deep, rumbling with a challenge. “Don't forget where you stand, Tyler,” he fearlessly called the Alpha's name. “You were put in your position to honor the late Alpha's request. Keep messing up--”Cutting him off, “speak to me in that manner and I will have you executed! Don't question my authority. Wait until you rule a pack of rogue wolves, then you can exact authority above me.”

CHAPTER 22: THE PRISON YARD.

As soon as the first streak of light shone in the very early hours of the next day, Lana tiptoed out of bed. Kamala was still snoring when she felt the rays of the light. Grumbling, she gathered the comforter to herself and covered her head with a pillow to block out the light. She was in no mood to wake up that early. While Lana had the bugging situation of yesterday to take care of, she was eager to explore the place too.Quietly, she freshened up and re-wore the same clothes of yesterday. Heading outside, it was beautiful. The night didn't do justice to the place. Her legs hit the bottom of the stairs, and all she could say was, “wow!” The guards stationed everywhere had vanished into thin air, except for the ones around the Alpha mansion. It was heavily guarded. Outside that, everyone else was at the training unit with Elijah, Viktor, and four other guys conducting. There was no segregation. Everybody was training. Male and female, some looking like they were fifteen. Yet, they t

CHAPTER 23: MORE TO SEE.

Almost tripping in her own steps, Lana composed her distracted mind when Elijah sneered at her. Tyler reeked of dominance and power without even trying much.“Alpha,” Elijah greeted with a bow.Lana was lost on what to do. Greet or stare? Silence was a better option. Tyler glimpsed at her, dissatisfied with her repeated clothing. He kept his face passive and his eyes void. “The prisoner must be ready to talk now,” he informed Elijah in particular, an underlying meaning to his tone which was directed to Lana.He simply meant, what this wolf says keeps or kicks you out. Better pray to whatever gods you believe in for his motive to be positive. She calmed her breathing and slowed her hearing senses. Since she arrived, she noticed peculiar things have been happening to her body. One of which was, her senses had been heightened. She could as much as hear the little toad croaking at the far end of the sea. Her eyes constricted, and she could visibly see the snake sneaking up behind Tyler.

CHAPTER 24: INTERROGATION.

Tyler, calm as a running stream, grabbed the collar of the man's shirt and jerked him upwards. Since Tyler was so tall, the man was kicking his feet as he was elevated from the floor. “I will speak just once. Listen and speak properly. Why did you attack her?”The man had fear written all over his face. His eyes were wavering as he tried to coordinate his words. “Because she is close to the Alpha--”“What Alpha?” Lana questioned, stepping forward. “What Alpha? Who am I? What was I?” Knowing the truth, her voice quivered, anxiety overtaking her body. Lana briefly closed her eyes in thoughts of relaxing. She needed to calm down, slow her racing heart and maintain her body language.Tyler perceived this fear but ruled it off as Lana feeling uneasy close to the prisoner. Her pounding heart was so loud, his wolf wanted to jump out and comfort its mate. Nonetheless, Tyler growled at Gael, shutting off the pity. Unawares, Lana became immobile. A gush of wind blew at just her, picking her ene

CHAPTER 25: A PACK THAT EATS TOGETHER, STAYS TOGETHER.

Following the direction of her eyes, “what are you searching for?” Levi asked, placing both hands in the pocket of his pants. His beauty was distracting. The Silver pack has a selection of good-looking men. Even the cranky and easily offended ones like Elijah mocked the men of other packs in physique and facial features.“Ty… I mean, Alpha Tyler.”“He is in a meeting with the council. You can't see him unless he invites you in. If not, you have to wait until it is over.”“Is that how it works?”“Yes. If you barge into a council meeting, it is punishable by death. They take laws around here seriously. The only one above them to an extent is the Alpha.” Levi's walkie-talkie shrieked, making shuttering noises. He reached to answer it. “Yes?” Levi answered into his walkie-talkie once he peeled it off its pouch. He looked anxious.“You are off-duty,” a male voice informed.Visibly exhaling, “okay.”The walkie-talkie disconnected with another shrieking noise. Levi turned to Lana, his brown

CHAPTER 26: MASTERS OF MYSTERY FOR LANA.

When the girls approached the counter, the clanging of utensils and dishes startled Lana. There were different menus scattered on each counter containing the list of what was available for the day. It was elaborate. From appetizers to main meals and even desserts. Each section of breakfast, lunch, or dinner was mouthwatering.“Can one eat anywhere else rather than here?” Lana asked as her legs itched to find privacy and quietness.“Yes. Your room. The garden. Anywhere is okay, but the Alpha doesn't like that sometimes. He likes everyone to stay and eat here,” a wavy brunette from the group of girls answered. Lana gave a nod, and they proceeded to make their picks. Her appetite was large. She wanted a taste of all the sumptuous meals that called her attention. It was a fight to choose with precision, but she had to make up her mind. All that, she will taste in due time. Minutes later, a stainless tray containing each girl's order was before them. They carried their meals to find an e

CHAPTER 27: MATES AFFECTION.

The last Elder left before Tyler summoned Katida inside. Surprisingly, he let Lana stay for his brief meeting. “Elijah and Viktor, what do you suggest we do to them? Their treat is growing. I want to avoid resolving it with violence. We have to maintain an alliance with as many packs as possible.”Elijah rubbed his chin, lost in deep thought. Finally, he spoke. “We have to either drive fear into the hearts of some of these packs to earn the respect we deserve.”“I don't think you heard him,” Viktor corrected. “He doesn't want any violence. It is unhealthy and might lead to war. The other packs despise our existence without truly knowing us.”“We can give more tribute,” Katida blurted out. She wasn't meant to talk yet but had gotten carried away with the accolade Tyler gave her when she swooped in and fought by his side. “I am sorry,” she quickly added when she noticed that Tyler was furious.“Learn to guard your tongue, Katida!” he barked. He wasn't angry that she spoke. This was a bu

CHAPTER 28: A SURPRISE ATTACK.

One week has drastically passed. Lana began to feel the advantages of a coordinated and well-governed pack. Everything had time. Everyone obeyed. And, the environment was safe to move around in at any time. For the last seven days, morning, afternoon, and night, Lana relentlessly trained. Katida made it obvious that she wanted to make Lana quit. Same with Elijah. When her bones ached and her nerves could no longer function, Lana found Kamala or Levi to spend time with. She extracted as much information as possible from them. They told her stories about the pack, gossiped about others, and made jokes. These two were the primary source of her happiness.Lana's body was back to its proper state. Her mind focused. She had less to worry about since the prisoner 'mysteriously' died. Today was one of those days that she woke up with cramped muscles and an aching head, yet, she had to train. Tyler made sure to keep himself so busy that he inky caught occasional glimpses of her. Whenever he

CHAPTER 29: BETRAYAL OF HER MATE.

“Come on, Lana. I can smell your scent and hear your heartbeat. Don't think that a few tree branches will safeguard you from me.” Katida licked the blood oozing from where Lana had cut her. Slowly, it began to heal. A mark will still be left there, as healing completely will take a full day.Lana winced in agony when her broken arm accidentally hit against a tree. She almost screamed but held that loud shrieks of wordless sound in. She ran and ran without looking back. Her hearing scanned for Katida's footsteps. Hearing nothing, she exhaled, having lost her for a brief moment. Lana slumped against a tree, forcing herself to sit.Her bleeding palm had completely healed still, but her arm remained the same. Suddenly, she remembered one of the things Elijah taught her about pain and healing. She had to trigger her healing if she wanted the arm to be okay. Lana took a deep breath and used one hand to tear the lower part of her pants, stuffing the pieces of clothing into her mouth.Through

CHAPTER 30: THE WATERFALL.

Lana didn't know how long she was on the run. She only stopped when she felt her draining strength. Around her was a waterfall with a sloppy area where one could sit. Her arm and palm had completely healed. She exhaled, breathing in the safe air of the space. Opening her eyes, she studied her environment, using the peacefulness to relax.Looking down from her rocky perch, mist billowed out in soft clouds where water and gravity collided. Lana screamed into thin air, the roaring water masking her sound. It was an outburst of all emotions that she couldn't explain. The breeze played with her hair, brushing it against her shoulders. A stray water droplet landed on her arm as she pulled in another deep breath. She carefully walked to the flat boulder that rose from the center of the plunge pool when her voice began to itch from all the screaming. She eased herself onto it, sitting. From where she sat, she was able to scoop a palmful of water and drank from it, quenching her thirst. Star
