What would Cielo be doing with an unregistered car? The question rang in his mind. There was more to her than he knew, and he was going to find out who she truly was.**The next morning, Giovanni trashed the bed sheets before changing into comfortable shorts with no shirts on before going downstairs. He walked to the dining room and poured himself a glass of Scotch. He took a sip from the glass before dropping it back on the table. He picked up his phone and put a call across.“Hello. I need you at the mansion in thirty minutes,” he said into the call before dropping it. He picked up his glass of Scotch and walked into his study. He shut the door before walking over to the table and dropping the glass. There was no one else in the house, but he had gotten used to shutting the door every time he was here.He walked over to the shelf and scanned through the books before pulling two out from their position. He dropped them both on the table before opening the first one. It was an old bo

62. Angelo's burial

“News just got out. Giovanni is laying his brother to the earth today.” One of Romano's men stormed into his office. He was working closely with the consigliere and after the death of the consigliere, he had taken over his duties. He walked over to the large wooden table made of refined mahogany, behind which Romano sat. “If we strike today, it'll be the best time to get him,” he added, looking up at Romano.“No. Let's respect the dead today. No attack.” Romano replied, closing the lid of the pen he used. Attacking Giovanni on the day he planned on burying his brother was one great, but crazy idea. He had respect for Angelo and wouldn't want to disrupt his last day.“But-” the man tried to argue, but he raised his hand, stopping his argument mid way.“And who said Giovanni and his men aren't armed? I'm pretty sure there's an army of men lurking around just to catch a glance of his face, even metres away. We have to let this one slide.” Romano stated, calmly, making him see reason with

63. The attack on Romano

“Thank you for agreeing to go on this date with me.” Doctor Dushan said to Joan as they took their seats in one of the classiest restaurants in the city. It's been three weeks since they crossed paths at the coffee shop, and it's been three weeks of communication between them.“No need to thank me, Dushane,” Joan replied after Dushan had pulled a chair out for her. She sat down with a fat smile on her face and he took the seat in front of her, returning the smile, showing off his perfect dentition in the process. They picked up the menu on the table and scaled through it. Dushan closed his menu and signaled the waiter over.He arrived at their table with a smile and Dushan placed their orders. The same meal for Joan and himself, a bottle of wine and some pastries. Their meal arrived minutes later and they dug in silently.“The meal is great.” Cielo applauded after eating almost half of her meal.“Ya. I told you it would be.” Dushan replied. He opened the wine and turned it into two gl

64. Romano's escape

Romano was inside the mansion when he heard a gunshot from outside. He sent one of his men outside to go check the cause. The man returned some seconds later, shouting there was an attack. He quickly got up from the chair where he sat, cross-legged, and dashed for his room.He made for the drawer by the bed and pulled it open, taking out two semi automatic rifles. He loaded them quickly and cocked them before rushing out of the room. He got intercepted by one of his men as he was rushing back downstairs.“You can't go back there,” he said, stepping in front of Romano. He held an Ak-47 rifle in his hand and looked unsettled.“What the hell are you saying?” Romano asked in anger. Giovanni comes to attack me in my own house, and you say I should run away. Are you mad?” he spat and tried to nudge him out of the way.“I'm sorry Capo, but I can't let you go out there. It is my duty to protect you.” the man replied, standing firm. Romano looked at him and scoffed. He raised one of the guns in

It's been a week since Giovanni attacked Romano at his second home. Romano had escaped and been on the low since then. Giovanni had eyes every, looking for Romano but it seems he had suddenly disappeared into the air.The burning house incident had gotten into the news and had spread quickly on the day about the incident, but after then, the media suddenly stopped talking about it, like someone had paid them to keep quiet.“Why did you attack Romano Rossi?” the Italian Mafia godfather asked Giovanni. They were both in his study, turned office at his home. He sat comfortably and crossed his legs while Giovanni stood in front of him, his hands folded behind him. “Romano crossed the line. He killed my family, and I cannot forgive him for that.” Giovanni replied, his voice strained with hate.“Why didn't you report it to me or the council?” the godfather asked. He puffed smoke out from his far stick of tobacco before turning to face Giovanni again.“I could take care of it, so there was

Cielo stared at Romano's back as he walked out of the pool area. He sounded as though he knew something. Something about her actions. She sighed and took her legs out of the water, getting up from the poolside. She walked to the lounge chair and lay on it, covering a big towel over her body. They had completed the case they worked on together, a few weeks ago. Though Piero took all the credit in front of the director, even after she put in most of the work, she didn't care. She had a lot more things on her mind, plus, she had walked on more difficult cases. The next morning, she walked into the gym room as early as five AM. It was a long spacious room that contained most of the equipment. Trea mills, weights, barbells, and cardio equipment. She first stepped on the treadmill and set the speed to a convenient one. After spending over ten minutes on the treadmill, she got down and went over to lift weights. It's been over a week since she last visited here. She had been a regular face a

Giovanni pulled up at Cielo's driveway and killed the engine of the car before stepping out. He was actually very surprised she had invited him over to her house. All the times they had met, it's been her coming around, but now, she invited him to hers. He stepped out of the car and looked around the neighborhood. The neighborhood looked to be quite an expensive one. She had sent him the address with the house description some hours ago so locating the exact house wasn't much of an issue. He barely knew anything about her so he couldn't know if she was rich enough to own a house in the neighbourhood. He walked towards the door and spotted Cielo standing by it with a smile on her face.“Hello, Mr. Cherisi, welcome.” she welcomed him with a smile once he was a few feet away. He scoffed within himself. He thought they had moved past all those formalities. After having sex a couple of times and getting involved in hot make out sessions, he thought he would be something away from “Mr. Che

Giovanni looked at her outstretched hand and scoffed softly, shaking his head a bit. He had no reason to cut a deal with her.“Why should I accept this offer?” he asked, ignoring Cielo's hand. She looked at her ignored hand and then dropped it.“Cos it will be beneficial to both of us,” she replied curtly.“I don't see how it will be beneficial to me, here. From what you've said, it's just about you. And why do you think I need you to get rid of Romano?” he asked, his tone a little condescending. She sighed and leaned back on the couch, making sure her back was on the backrest of the chair. “One, I can get you as much information as you need, about Romano, and even the anonymous man. I heard he's planning something big.” Cielo paused, making everything she said sink in. The word about the anonymous man caught his attention. He had totally forgotten about him and had focused all of his attention on Romano.“What do you know about the anonymous man?” he asked, and Cielo smiled. She fin

Cielo arrived at her house, parked her car in the garage, and walked in. She sighed as she sat on her favorite couch. She dropped the files she got from the office on the table before dropping her legs on the table too. She closed her eyes for some seconds in a bid to relax. Work and everything was starting to take a toll on her and the fact that she was going nowhere on her parent's murder case was very disturbing. She hissed as she picked up her laptop and turned it on. She stared at the blank screen as the booting process went on. The laptop finally came up and she inputted the password. She dropped the laptop on the table and walked to the little drawer on the other side of the room. There were three drawers, all of the same type. She bent to the last one and inputted its lock code before turning it open. The drawer was empty except for the object she was looking for. A flash drive. She picked it up and returned to the laptop. She sighed before inserting it into the laptop. It co

She switched on a little flashlight and held it with her mouth while when flipped through the pages of the first book she took out. There was nothing interesting in it so she returned it to the shelf and picked out another. The books were arranged chronologically so she just had to go to the decade that interests her and make a choice. After checking through five books, she couldn't find what she had been looking for. She realized everything looked quite simple until one attempted doing it. She stepped back tiredly and her foot hit a table behind her, making the books fall loudly to the ground.“Oh shit!” she exclaimed as she bent down quickly and tried to pick them up. The fall had been so loud, she was sure it was going to attract anyone that was around the area. She heard footsteps coming and she quickly left the book and hid behind a shelf. Soon, she heard someone try to open the door, and some moments later, the door was pushed open. She had only closed the door but failed to loc
