Chapter One

Lydia "Lydia Evans," my mentor's familiar voice called out my name. I nervously looked up at her, hoping I wasn't about to get sent home like the three girls before me. "Yes, ma'am," I responded, avoiding eye contact, just in case she had a disappointed look on her face. "Come with me," she instructed, turning and walking back into the kitchen without explanation. Confused and nervous, I hurriedly followed behind her. "What's the first rule of being a chef here?" she asked as soon as we were inside. "Uhm... I'm not sure," I answered tentatively. She gave me a sharp look. "You should know this. Think about it." I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. "Is it about preparing the best meal that suits the Alpha's taste?" "That's one aspect of it, but there's something more important," she said. I thought for a moment. "Is it discretion?" I asked. She threw me a displeased glare. "There are a thousand things you could have said, but you chose to answer that discretion is t

Chapter Two

Lydia Trembling, I mustered the courage to speak up, my voice barely above a whisper. "W...who are you?" I asked, my heart pounding in my chest like a drum. The man standing in front of me was tall, muscular, and intimidating, with a stern expression etched onto his face. Despite his extremely good looks, there was an air of danger around him that sent shivers down my spine. Finally finding a way to get up on my own, I stood in front of him, trying to steady my nerves. I was taken aback by the intensity of his gaze, which seemed to penetrate my soul. We both knew that we were mates, but his piercing stare made me feel exposed and vulnerable. As I took in my surroundings, I realized that I was deep in the Alpha's palace for sure, the last place I would have imagined ever meeting my mate. It was a breathtaking sight, with ornate decorations adorning the walls and floors, and a sense of power and majesty emanating from every corner. Although I was supposed to be excited about final

Chapter Three

Nicholas As I stepped into the dimly lit room, I immediately caught a glimpse of her face, twisted with repulsion and anger. It was a look that I had become quite familiar with over the years, and strangely enough, I found myself enjoying it. "Are you here to release me?" she asked, her voice shaking as if she were submerged in icy waters. "Did you really just ask me that?" I responded, a hint of amusement lacing my words. She let out a tired sigh as if trying to subtly mock me. "Well, if you're not here to release me, then what brings your highness to such a shabby and disgusting place?" she spat out the words, her tone disrespectful and full of contempt. I couldn't help but feel taken aback by her tone. In situations like this, most prisoners would try to appeal to me, to plead for forgiveness and mercy. But this one, she was audacious, still speaking to me in such a disrespectful tone. It was surprising, but at the same time, it was upsetting. "I didn't come here for a friend

Chapter Four

Lydia The thirst that racked my body was unbearable. It felt like my throat was on fire and my tongue was swollen. I could barely whisper as I pleaded with the guard for water to drink. "I beg of you, can I please have some water to drink?" I pleaded with my cell guard for the umpteenth time in the last hour. It had been almost three days since I was thrown into this cell, and I hadn't been given a single drop of water since then. The guard, as usual, ignored my request and continued pacing back and forth, tapping his feet impatiently on the sandy floor. The only time he acknowledged my existence was when he brought me food, which was hardly edible. It tasted like dog food, and I could hardly stomach a spoonful of it. Exasperated, I asked the guard again if I could have some water to drink. "Can I please just get some water?" I pleaded. I tried my best to sound polite, so he wouldn't get angry and lash out at me. But he was unyielding. "You can only get water if the Alpha ap

Chapter Five

Nicholas I was enjoying the tranquility of my office when I was interrupted by the booming voice of my mother. “You've gotten more audacious, Nicholas,” Her presence was the last thing I needed, and I knew she was only here to get on my nerves. She had a way of doing that, and I was sure that was her intention. Without bothering to exchange pleasantries, I hissed, "What do you want, mother?" I didn't have time for her nonsense, and I knew she didn't have any good intentions. She retorted, "Show some respect, you stupid brat! Shouldn't you get up and greet me before questioning me? Is this how I taught you to show manners?" I couldn't stand it when she spoke to me like a child, and I detested her for it. With a sigh, I responded, "I have a ton of work to do, Mother, and I don't have time for this. If you've come all the way here to demand respect from me, then, I'd have to ask you to leave, so you don't waste your time. The fact that I still call you mother, instead of your first n

Chapter Six

Lydia My eyes flew open and the first thing I noticed was the lights. The extremely bright lights temporarily made me think that I had gone to meet my maker— well, not until I heard strange voices that sounded way too normal to be the voice of the moon goddess. I opened my eyes again briefly and noticed that two women were standing by the doorway. I took the chance to peep around the room, and that was when I realized that I was currently lying in a hospital bed. I didn't remember how I got here, but I remember not feeling too well and calling for the guard to help me, but as expected, he thought I was being too dramatic and overreacting, and he didn't even bother turning to look at me. The ladies' voices got slightly louder, so I quickly shut my eyes again, not exactly wanting them to know I was awake just yet. “Do you think he'll lock her up again?” one of the voices asked, and I didn't need anyone to tell me I was the 'her' in the question. I wondered where I was for a while,

Chapter Seven

Lydia “How are you feeling, dear?” Martha asked as she adjusted herself by my side. It's been almost two days since I was brought into the hospital and Martha has been the only person who showed up to visit. According to what I heard from the nurses, the Alpha has been informed that I was now awake and unsurprisingly, he hasn't shown up since then. I was more relieved than disappointed that he didn't show up because I know his presence was only going to put me in a situation that would probably bring me back here in the coming days or, even worse, I won't get the chance to leave before falling ill all over again. “Better, for now,” I answered, with a forced smile, and Martha sighed. “I don't even know what to say to you right now because nothing makes sense to me at this point. I've tried several times to get an audience with him so that I can convince him to let you go, but he's not letting me meet with him at all,” Martha mentioned. “Oh, Martha, you don't have to bother yours

Chapter Eight

Third Person PovLydia nervously followed behind the guards that were leading her to what she believed was the Alpha's office. She was discharged from the hospital only a few hours ago, but before she could even get the chance to leave, two guards showed up out of nowhere and instructed her to follow them. She questioned them about where they were taking her and at first, they did not tell her anything, simply ignoring her but when she persisted repeatedly, they finally answered her and told her the alpha had summoned her. She was extremely nervous, but she tried to calm herself by only thinking of positive thoughts even though she knew there was a higher chance that nothing positive was going to come out of meeting with him. After what felt like forever, they finally arrived in front of a large door that looked exactly how she had pictured. She unconsciously rubbed her palms together, as she stood behind the large guard in front of her to hide her smaller frame. “She's here, S

Chapter Nine

Nicholas “What is it, Liam? What's with the intense staring?” I asked, getting sick and tired of Liam's fixated gaze. “Are you being serious, Nick? Are you seriously going to pretend like you don't understand why I'm staring right now? When are you going to explain to me what exactly is going on here?” he responded, and I furrowed my brows, pretending to be confused. “What do you mean by that? What else is there for me to explain to you?” I asked, even though I knew what he was talking about. I could understand why he was questioning me, but I just didn't think I was ready to explain myself to him and frankly, I don't see a reason to. I trusted Liam completely, but I just didn't feel like telling him anything more than he already knows. “Oh, for goodness’s sake, stop playing with me, Nicholas! What has gotten into you? How long are you going to keep acting like this? You know very well that Lydia doesn't deserve to be put on trial because there is no evidence to prove that she's

Chapter Ten

Lydia It was nighttime and my judgement day had finally come. The surrounding air had become still all of a sudden, and it felt like I was going to stop breathing any moment now. I was repeatedly breathing in and out just to control myself and to also keep my emotions in check, but my nervousness and my fear weren't letting me gain control over my emotions. I was currently on my knees with both my hands tied to the back and my legs were also tied like that of a common criminal. About five guards were standing a few feet away from me and I also saw some spectators from a distance that were most likely here to watch my misery which will be to their amusement. Since my emotions were all over the place, it was taking a lot out of me not to burst into tears. I felt very frustrated, especially because I knew I was innocent, and I did not deserve whatever it is that the alpha had in store for me. Unfortunately for me, there was nothing I could do to prove my innocence, and it was quite
