Lydia
Trembling, I mustered the courage to speak up, my voice barely above a whisper. "W...who are you?" I asked, my heart pounding in my chest like a drum.
The man standing in front of me was tall, muscular, and intimidating, with a stern expression etched onto his face. Despite his extremely good looks, there was an air of danger around him that sent shivers down my spine.
Finally finding a way to get up on my own, I stood in front of him, trying to steady my nerves. I was taken aback by the intensity of his gaze, which seemed to penetrate my soul. We both knew that we were mates, but his piercing stare made me feel exposed and vulnerable.
As I took in my surroundings, I realized that I was deep in the Alpha's palace for sure, the last place I would have imagined ever meeting my mate. It was a breathtaking sight, with ornate decorations adorning the walls and floors, and a sense of power and majesty emanating from every corner. Although I was supposed to be excited about finally meeting my mate, the fear of his wrath was almost palpable.
"Shouldn't I be the one asking the questions? Who are you and why are you here? Do you not know where this place is?" he asked in a harsh, impatient tone. His words stung like a whip, and I winced at his sharp tone.
I stumbled over my words, trying to explain myself. "I'm so sorry that I'm here even when I know that I shouldn't be, but this is my first day here, and I just got lost without even realizing it. I know that I might be asking too much from you, but please don't tell on me to the Alpha because I honestly don't want to get into trouble on my first day here," I blurted out, hoping he would show some mercy.
I desperately wanted him to be the kind and loving mate I had always dreamed of. However, the coldness in his eyes made me doubt that was possible. I wondered if he would report me to the Alpha and get me in trouble, even though he was my mate.
"Don't you think it's already too late for that? You've already gotten in trouble with the Alpha because you're standing right in front of him," he replied coldly, causing me to choke on my own words.
"W...what d...did you just say?" I asked, hoping that I had misheard him.
He repeated himself with a sneer. "Now you're trying to make me repeat myself?" he asked, his tone dripping with disdain.
"No, no, no, no, heaven forbid I try to do such a thing," I stammered in reply to his accusation. My nerves were getting the best of me, and I was struggling to articulate my thoughts.
"I'm just a little confused and afraid right now, and I wanted to confirm if what I heard was true or if my nervousness was making me hear things," I explained.
My heart was pounding in my chest, and I was desperately hoping that this conversation wouldn't escalate any further.
"Well, you heard right. I'm the Alpha," he confirmed with a hint of irritation in his voice. As soon as I heard those words, my heart stopped. My mind was racing, trying to process what was happening. I didn't know what to say or how to react.
There were so many reasons to be shocked, but the most surprising of them all was that the man standing in front of me was my mate, and he was an Alpha.
The mere thought of it was both thrilling and intimidating, but I couldn't express how I felt because his expression was not pleasant at all. I could tell that he wasn't pleased to have met me.
"I believe every new employee is informed beforehand that some places are prohibited, and you should have asked for proper guidance before wandering off," he spoke harshly, his words cutting through my racing thoughts.
With each passing second, I became more and more afraid of what he intended to do with me.
"I p...promise that I'll n...never come near this area ever again," I stuttered out, desperately hoping to appeal to his mercy.
"I swear to you, Alpha. P... please, forgive me. I'll never come anywhere near this place ever again. Please, show me mercy, Alpha. I'll never do such a thing again," I begged desperately, stuttering my words because my mind wasn't clear.
He didn't respond to me, instead turning his back and walking away. As soon as he did, I knew that I was in trouble, and nothing would save me from his wrath.
For a few seconds, I contemplated whether I should keep apologizing in hopes of changing his mind or if it would be better for me to run back in the direction from which I had come.
After some thought, I decided to turn and run back to the kitchen. However, before I could even take a step backward, two huge men came out of nowhere and grabbed me by my arm, their grip unbreakable.
Trembling with fear and confusion, I felt tears threatening to spill down my cheeks as I looked up at the two men who had suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
My mind raced with questions, but I could barely form the words as I stammered out, "What's going on? Where are you taking me? What are you going to do to me?"
The men didn't answer, but the dark, menacing look in their eyes spoke volumes. I couldn't help but feel a cold, creeping sense of dread as they moved closer, their massive forms seeming to loom over me like mountains.
But it wasn't just their size that frightened me; it was the palpable sense of danger that surrounded them, as though they were predators on the hunt.
As the realization of what was happening dawned on me, I felt a sickening sensation in the pit of my stomach. The Alpha...my mate...hadn't taken kindly to my trespassing in a forbidden area, and now I was about to pay the price.
For a moment, I forgot that this man was supposed to be my mate. The anger and hatred I saw in his eyes made me feel sick to my stomach, and I wished more than anything that I could go back in time and undo what I had done. But it was too late now. I was at his mercy.
As the larger of the two men roughly grabbed my arm, I flinched and tried to pull away, but it was no use.
"Q-quietly come with us if you don't want to be knocked out," the man with darker hair commanded, his voice low and menacing. I could feel the danger emanating from him, and I knew that he was not someone to be trifled with.
I swallowed hard, my heart pounding in my chest as I struggled to keep my composure. I could not bring myself to scream or even say anything else because I didn't want to get knocked out, and I also wouldn't want to worsen my situation by provoking them.
All I could do was nod my head meekly and allow them to lead me away, my mind racing with fear and uncertainty.
****
The sound of the cell door slamming shut still echoed in my mind. I couldn't believe that the Alpha, my mate, had ordered his men to lock me up.
My heart pounded with fear and confusion. I knew I had broken the rules, but I never expected this kind of punishment. Wasn't jail too extreme?
I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down, but it felt like the walls of the cell were closing in on me. The tiny space felt suffocating, and I couldn't help but wonder how long I would be trapped in here. It was supposed to be one of the best days of my life, but now, everything had turned upside down.
"Excuse me, how long do I have to be here?" I asked the guard standing in front of my cell, but he acted as if I was invisible. I let out a frustrated sigh.
"Can you please just tell me how long I have to be here?" I asked again, this time raising my voice so he couldn't ignore me.
But the guard just sneered at me with a callous expression on his face. "You make one more sound and I'll gag you, do you understand?"
I couldn't help but fire back. "Feel free to gag me after telling me how long I need to be here, stupid!" My voice trembled with fear as I tried to appear tough and unafraid, but I was currently shitting my pants for talking back.
The guard just scoffed at me, clearly not intimidated by my words. I realized then that I had no clue what these men were capable of, and what the Alpha could have instructed them to do.
I needed to be careful about the things I said and did, but I couldn't allow myself to just sit here and wait without any knowledge of my fate.
As I sat alone in the cell, my mind raced with questions and fear. Would I be stuck here forever? Would I be punished in other ways? What did the Alpha want from me?
I didn't have any answers, but one thing was for sure: my life had taken a drastic turn, and I had no control over what was going to happen next.
"In case you haven't realized," the guard bellowed, his voice echoing off the walls of the cell, "you don't have any right to demand anything here!"
His words were like daggers, piercing my skin and causing me to shrink back against the wall. His face contorted into an expression of anger, and his eyes glinted with malice.
"And if you refuse to listen and be obedient, I'm going to make you obey instructions the hard way. And trust me, you wouldn't want me to go that far," he added with a threatening growl. I swallowed hard, my heart pounding in my chest.
This wasn't how I'd imagined my day turning out.
I opened my mouth to respond, to plead with him to tell me how long I'd be trapped in this tiny cell, but I was interrupted by a familiar scent that made my stomach churn.
The Alpha was here.
"Welcome Alpha," the guard greeted as soon as he arrived, his tone subservient and deferential. I avoided his gaze, my heart racing with fear. I knew that the Alpha was angry with me, and I had no idea what he was capable of.
"Look up, little lady," the Alpha ordered, his voice low and menacing.
"I'm not biting you. At least, not yet." I felt a shiver run down my spine, and I slowly raised my eyes to meet his. His face was twisted into a sinister grin, and something about his eyes filled me with dread.
"Haven't you bitten me enough already?" I blurted out in a shaky voice. The Alpha chuckled dryly, and I felt a wave of revulsion wash over me.
"You and I are only just getting started, little lady," he replied, his voice dripping with malice. "So prepare yourself." His words hung in the air like a death sentence, and I knew then that I wasn't getting out of here anytime soon.
I tried to steel myself, to prepare for whatever horrors lay ahead, but the fear gnawed at me, threatening to overwhelm me completely. I had no idea what the Alpha had planned for me, but I knew it wasn't going to be pleasant.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, trying to find some semblance of peace amid my fear. But all I could hear was the sound of my own heartbeat, pounding in my chest like a drum.
Nicholas As I stepped into the dimly lit room, I immediately caught a glimpse of her face, twisted with repulsion and anger. It was a look that I had become quite familiar with over the years, and strangely enough, I found myself enjoying it. "Are you here to release me?" she asked, her voice shaking as if she were submerged in icy waters. "Did you really just ask me that?" I responded, a hint of amusement lacing my words. She let out a tired sigh as if trying to subtly mock me. "Well, if you're not here to release me, then what brings your highness to such a shabby and disgusting place?" she spat out the words, her tone disrespectful and full of contempt. I couldn't help but feel taken aback by her tone. In situations like this, most prisoners would try to appeal to me, to plead for forgiveness and mercy. But this one, she was audacious, still speaking to me in such a disrespectful tone. It was surprising, but at the same time, it was upsetting. "I didn't come here for a friend
Lydia The thirst that racked my body was unbearable. It felt like my throat was on fire and my tongue was swollen. I could barely whisper as I pleaded with the guard for water to drink. "I beg of you, can I please have some water to drink?" I pleaded with my cell guard for the umpteenth time in the last hour. It had been almost three days since I was thrown into this cell, and I hadn't been given a single drop of water since then. The guard, as usual, ignored my request and continued pacing back and forth, tapping his feet impatiently on the sandy floor. The only time he acknowledged my existence was when he brought me food, which was hardly edible. It tasted like dog food, and I could hardly stomach a spoonful of it. Exasperated, I asked the guard again if I could have some water to drink. "Can I please just get some water?" I pleaded. I tried my best to sound polite, so he wouldn't get angry and lash out at me. But he was unyielding. "You can only get water if the Alpha ap
Nicholas I was enjoying the tranquility of my office when I was interrupted by the booming voice of my mother. “You've gotten more audacious, Nicholas,” Her presence was the last thing I needed, and I knew she was only here to get on my nerves. She had a way of doing that, and I was sure that was her intention. Without bothering to exchange pleasantries, I hissed, "What do you want, mother?" I didn't have time for her nonsense, and I knew she didn't have any good intentions. She retorted, "Show some respect, you stupid brat! Shouldn't you get up and greet me before questioning me? Is this how I taught you to show manners?" I couldn't stand it when she spoke to me like a child, and I detested her for it. With a sigh, I responded, "I have a ton of work to do, Mother, and I don't have time for this. If you've come all the way here to demand respect from me, then, I'd have to ask you to leave, so you don't waste your time. The fact that I still call you mother, instead of your first n
Lydia My eyes flew open and the first thing I noticed was the lights. The extremely bright lights temporarily made me think that I had gone to meet my maker— well, not until I heard strange voices that sounded way too normal to be the voice of the moon goddess. I opened my eyes again briefly and noticed that two women were standing by the doorway. I took the chance to peep around the room, and that was when I realized that I was currently lying in a hospital bed. I didn't remember how I got here, but I remember not feeling too well and calling for the guard to help me, but as expected, he thought I was being too dramatic and overreacting, and he didn't even bother turning to look at me. The ladies' voices got slightly louder, so I quickly shut my eyes again, not exactly wanting them to know I was awake just yet. “Do you think he'll lock her up again?” one of the voices asked, and I didn't need anyone to tell me I was the 'her' in the question. I wondered where I was for a while,
Lydia “How are you feeling, dear?” Martha asked as she adjusted herself by my side. It's been almost two days since I was brought into the hospital and Martha has been the only person who showed up to visit. According to what I heard from the nurses, the Alpha has been informed that I was now awake and unsurprisingly, he hasn't shown up since then. I was more relieved than disappointed that he didn't show up because I know his presence was only going to put me in a situation that would probably bring me back here in the coming days or, even worse, I won't get the chance to leave before falling ill all over again. “Better, for now,” I answered, with a forced smile, and Martha sighed. “I don't even know what to say to you right now because nothing makes sense to me at this point. I've tried several times to get an audience with him so that I can convince him to let you go, but he's not letting me meet with him at all,” Martha mentioned. “Oh, Martha, you don't have to bother yours
Third Person PovLydia nervously followed behind the guards that were leading her to what she believed was the Alpha's office. She was discharged from the hospital only a few hours ago, but before she could even get the chance to leave, two guards showed up out of nowhere and instructed her to follow them. She questioned them about where they were taking her and at first, they did not tell her anything, simply ignoring her but when she persisted repeatedly, they finally answered her and told her the alpha had summoned her. She was extremely nervous, but she tried to calm herself by only thinking of positive thoughts even though she knew there was a higher chance that nothing positive was going to come out of meeting with him. After what felt like forever, they finally arrived in front of a large door that looked exactly how she had pictured. She unconsciously rubbed her palms together, as she stood behind the large guard in front of her to hide her smaller frame. “She's here, S
Nicholas “What is it, Liam? What's with the intense staring?” I asked, getting sick and tired of Liam's fixated gaze. “Are you being serious, Nick? Are you seriously going to pretend like you don't understand why I'm staring right now? When are you going to explain to me what exactly is going on here?” he responded, and I furrowed my brows, pretending to be confused. “What do you mean by that? What else is there for me to explain to you?” I asked, even though I knew what he was talking about. I could understand why he was questioning me, but I just didn't think I was ready to explain myself to him and frankly, I don't see a reason to. I trusted Liam completely, but I just didn't feel like telling him anything more than he already knows. “Oh, for goodness’s sake, stop playing with me, Nicholas! What has gotten into you? How long are you going to keep acting like this? You know very well that Lydia doesn't deserve to be put on trial because there is no evidence to prove that she's
Lydia It was nighttime and my judgement day had finally come. The surrounding air had become still all of a sudden, and it felt like I was going to stop breathing any moment now. I was repeatedly breathing in and out just to control myself and to also keep my emotions in check, but my nervousness and my fear weren't letting me gain control over my emotions. I was currently on my knees with both my hands tied to the back and my legs were also tied like that of a common criminal. About five guards were standing a few feet away from me and I also saw some spectators from a distance that were most likely here to watch my misery which will be to their amusement. Since my emotions were all over the place, it was taking a lot out of me not to burst into tears. I felt very frustrated, especially because I knew I was innocent, and I did not deserve whatever it is that the alpha had in store for me. Unfortunately for me, there was nothing I could do to prove my innocence, and it was quite
Lydia As the anticipation swirled around me, I paced back and forth in my private dressing room, my heart fluttering like a bird trapped in a cage. The grand ceremony was about to commence, marking not only the union between Nicholas and me but also my ascension as the new Luna of the Pack. Excitement and nerves danced the tango within me, creating a whirlwind of emotions. To quell my restless energy, I reached for a glass of water and took a sip, the cool liquid soothing my parched throat. But no matter how much I drank, my nervousness persisted. I continued my pacing, back and forth, back and forth, willing myself to find a semblance of calm.Just as I was beginning to lose myself in the rhythmic motion, a gentle knock on the door startled me from my thoughts. I hurriedly composed myself and called out, "Come in."The door creaked open, and Amara, the Beta female, and a dear friend, entered the room. I wanted to rush to help her in but knowing how she was and she preferred to re
Third Person Pov A Month Later… Lydia's eyes fluttered open, the first rays of dawn streaming through the curtains and casting a soft glow in her room. She stretched her limbs, relishing in the warmth of her bed for a few moments longer before slowly sitting up. As she sat up, the weight of her new role as the Luna of the Pack settled upon her, and she was immediately hit with a mix of joy and uncertainty. For the first ten minutes, Lydia found herself lost in thought as she gazed out of her bedroom window. The view of the sprawling forest beyond the palace grounds never failed to captivate her, offering a sense of solace amidst the whirlwind of emotions she now faced. She still couldn't fathom the fact that in just a few days, she would be crowned officially as the new Luna, standing by Nicholas's side as his mate and partner.Everything had changed since Nicholas's return, and sometimes Lydia struggled to keep up with the rapid shifts in her life. Yet, a sense of profound hap
Third Person Pov Henrietta paced restlessly in her opulent room, her anger smoldering like a hidden flame. The realization that Nicholas, the stepson she had tried so hard to eliminate, had returned from the dead, killed her lifelong partner, and now held her captive, gnawed at her insides. It was inconceivable, a twisted nightmare that had somehow materialized into reality. She glanced around her luxurious surroundings, a stark contrast to the bitterness that seethed within her. The walls seemed to close in, suffocating her, as the weight of her actions bore down upon her, leaving her in total disbelief. She had foolishly allowed herself to believe that she had successfully gotten rid of Nicholas from her life, but fate had other plans in store which made her even angrier. Her thoughts were interrupted by a sharp knock on the door, and Priscilla burst into the room, her eyes ablaze with fury. The air crackled with tension as mother and daughter locked eyes."You lying fraud!" Pri
Nicholas I hurriedly walked down the prison hallway, trying to get to Lydia as quickly as possible and see how she was doing. Every step I took felt heavy with anticipation and I also couldn’t help the guilt I felt as I got closer to seeing her again. I couldn't shake off the feeling that I had failed her by taking so much time and letting her remain locked for so long. I didn’t even want to imagine how tired and frustrated she must be feeling right now and seeing how I haven’t been able to reach other to her via mindlink or get a feel of her emotions, it could only mean she was too weak to receive my attempt to talk or, she could have blocked me from reaching her. After what felt like forever, I finally arrived in front of the cell she was locked in and as soon as I did, I sensed that her presence was fragile. "Unlock the cell," I instructed the guard, mentally preparing myself to have every one of them fired for disrespecting my mate. The guard seemed a little surprised to see
Third Person PovIt was a dark, moonless night when Henrietta slipped out of her chambers in plain clothes and with a small bag slung over her shoulder. As much as she had always tried to act nonchalant and unbothered by Gerald and whatever he was up to, Gerald was the one person besides her daughter, Priscilla, that she couldn't live without. And because she hadn't heard anything from him in a while, which was unusual, she believed she needed to go see him for herself and put her uneasy feeling at ease.As she made her way out of the palace, she attempted to go through the secret passage to avoid coming across any guards who would find her attempt to sneak out at night suspicious. However, when she arrived at the passage, she was shocked to see two guards in front of it. She was certain they weren't assigned to guard the passageway because to the best of her knowledge and with how long she had been using the passageway as her getaway route, she had always believed that no one, not e
Third Person Pov Henrietta had not been able to get over the fact that she hadn't heard from Gerald in almost two days, despite the fact that they had agreed to meet up yesterday and figure out how to, without evidence, announce to the general public that Nicholas had passed and use it as a chance to coronate Priscilla as the next Alpha. She had tried reaching him through several means and even sent her men to visit but according to them, no one had seen Gerald the last few days and since his guards weren't allowed into his house without permission, they couldn't confirm if he was home or out. She tried not to think that anything bad could have happened to him but for some reason, she wasn't having a very good feeling about his sudden absence especially because she knew that Gerald would never suddenly disappear at such an important moment. "What is it, Mother?" Priscilla asked as she walked in, distracting Henrietta from her thoughts. "What do you mean?" Henrietta replied, not e
Third Person Pov Amara clutched her walking stick firmly as she moved across the complex halls of the palace. She had never walked through the palace's opulent halls before, and it was daunting, considering the fact that she was blind and also considering the fact that she disliked the mere thought of being here and being seen. Still, she was determined to visit her friend Lydia, who had been imprisoned unjustly for over a week now, and bring her some food and water since she doubted that the guards would feed her proper food. Amara’s heightened senses were her only guide as she made her way down the long and winding corridors of the palace. She relied on her super-sensitive hearing, touch, and smell to navigate her way to the prison area without being seen by anyone. She already had a backup plan just in case she'd get caught but she preferred not to be seen by anyone at all to avoid her worst nightmare coming to light. The unfamiliar surroundings were a challenge even for her
Third Person Pov Nicholas glared down at Gerald's almost lifeless body, his eyes reflecting a mix of emotions, including anger, hatred, and a strange sense of satisfaction. The man lying in front of him was also one of the people responsible for what led to his mother getting killed unjustly and the pain and frustration that Gerald, with the aid of Henrietta, had caused him over the years was something that Nicholas had never for one second forgotten. Seeing Gerald lying there, in his own pool of blood, cold and on the verge of dying, gave him a sense of partial closure that he didn't know he needed, and as demented as it may sound, he was ecstatic that he got to kill Gerald himself and watch him die a painful death. Gerald was barely breathing, and from the blood that kept pouring out of his mouth, it was clear to Nicholas that time was running out and that Gerald would be a thing of the past in only a few seconds. Gerald knew Nicholas was staring down at him and despite finding
Nicholas's Pov I moved stealthily over the fence surrounding Gerald's house which was located far into town and away from most houses in town. One would think a wealthy and corrupt thief like Gerald would have his house located near the palace since he was so obsessed with the place, but surprisingly, after I kicked him out, he chose to buy himself a house that was very far away from the palace. Of course, I knew he probably only did it to follow Henrietta's instruction cause I'm pretty sure she wouldn't have agreed for her lover to buy a house in a place that was too close to hers, where they could easily be seen by others. The night sky was already pretty dark, and fortunately for me, the guards at the main gate were seemingly occupied with something else, so neither of them heard any sound from my direction.I expected Gerald, knowing how paranoid he was, to have his house swamped with guards but, to my surprise, the place was not as heavily guarded as I had anticipated. Befor
