Chapter 20

Adele POV When I walked out of Carrie’s office, my mom looked like she was ready to kill Carrie after she saw me. Apparently, it’s not a good idea for my mother to be waiting in the waiting room after I have had a particularly tearful therapy session. She jumped out of her seat, “What did you do to my baby?” I laughed, “Chill out, mom. Your baby needs to do some screaming and crying to get over the shit she’s been through. This won’t be the last time I come out looking like this, either. So, you will need to either get used to it or don’t be here when I come out. I don’t have to go outside this castle to get back to our wing. I can do it with my bodyguards.” Mom nodded, “I get it. I will get out of mom mode during and after therapy sessions.” We scheduled next week’s therapy session, then we walked back to our wing of the castle. When we reached the main area of the castle, Grandma Zara ran to me and wrapped her arms around me in a tight hug, “Oh, my sweet Adele! How are you?” I smil

Chapter 21

We all stayed in our wing of the castle that night, with Bridget getting her own room. I gave her a set of my pajamas, just in case he appears in her room in the middle of the night. They have my scent on them as I had held them against my neck. I wanted to make sure she would definitely be mistaken for me. She recognized the reason for this right away and chuckled, “You may not have any scent left by the time we get him.” I laughed, “I doubt that.” We said goodnight and I went to bed. After a night full of nightmares, night terrors, and sitting up against my headboard, rocking myself while hugging my pillow. I finally decided to get out of bed and get a cup of coffee. Leaving the lights off in the living room, I sat in the chaise lounge next to the window and stared outside with my cup in hand. I was trying to get my head straight before everyone got up for the day. I was able to sit there and get two cups of coffee in my system before mom got out of bed. She filled a cup with coffee

Chapter 22

We went home that day, after Lizzy and Emily came back from school. The castle had arranged for me and Bridget to have identical cars. Since she already had a black Corvette, I received one exactly like it. I smiled widely at the car and hugged Bridget. She asked, “What was that for?” I laughed, “For not owning a station wagon!” Everyone around us laughed as Bridget and I got in our cars, laughing all the way home. As she followed me home, she was taking note of how to get there from town all the way while I was trying to take it slow enough for her to be able to remember the way we were going. When we got home, I suggested she use my closet to put her clothes in so that my scent will be on everything she wears. I sighed, “I know it’s a bit creepy right now, but we are dealing with a really creepy guy.” She agreed, “Tell me about it. There are so many things that he does that we have to watch out for. Don’t let him touch me, don’t turn my back on him, and the list goes on and on.” I l

Chapter 23

Later that night we were all sitting in the living room, joking around when Bridget’s phone dinged. I looked at her and she stiffened, “That’s my ‘Adele’ phone.” She unlocked the screen and gasped as she handed it to Micah. Micah’s face turned bright red and his jaw clenched as he handed it to dad. Dad looked at it and growled, “Boys, Bridget, let’s get to the conference room.” I stood up and dad growled, “I don’t want you in there yet, sweetie. I know you want to know what’s going on and we will tell you. Just not right this moment. We need to work through the anger first. We can’t add your emotions to the already volatile mix right now.” I nodded, “Okay, dad. I trust you guys.” I moved to sit next to mom and put my head on her shoulder, “When is it going to end?” She sighed, “Trust me, baby girl, they’re working on trying to end it as quickly as they can. I’m starting to think we need to call in the alliance. I keep getting a feeling that all of this is just a distraction for somethi

Chapter 24

It was funny, to me, that Micah chose that exact moment to knock on my bedroom door. I opened the door and Micah’s hair was messed up like he had been running his hands through his hair. I asked, “What has you so wound up?” He let out an exasperated breath, “We are calling in the alliance. Bridget, I need you to use your ‘Adele’ phone to cancel your lunch date with Dune.” Bridget immediately picked up the phone and texted Dune, “I’m going to have to cancel our lunch today. Maybe another time.” Then she asked Micah, “Should I say anything about the dark warriors outside our house?” Micah looked at me, “Well, sis, what would you do?” Bridget got a text from Dune, “Why?” Bridget asked, “Adele, he’s asking why. What should I tell him?” I responded, “Tell him I’m not leaving my house with his buddies hanging out around my house and watching me for him.” She texted, “I’m not leaving my house with your pets hanging around, watching my every move.” Bridget read her reply to us and I laughed as

Chapter 25

I sat in on their planning meeting, answering any questions that I might be able to answer, but mainly just trying to stay in the same room as Bridget to confuse any dark warlocks that may be lurking around. I was listening to their planning and I finally stood up, “Don’t you think the first thing to do would be to interrogate the dark warlocks that the warriors took to the dungeons this morning?” Queen Eden dropped the pencil she was holding, “Did I miss the part where someone told us about this? I may be an angel, but I’m not above saying you guys seriously screwed up. Of course, we should start there. Thank you, Princess Adele, for suggesting that.” I shrugged, “I just figured that would be the best starting point.” We stood up and held hands while we were all teleported to the castle. Dad, my brothers and the alliance members went to the dungeons while Bridget, mom and I sat in our wing of the castle. I sat back on the couch and mom laughed, “You do know your dad is embarrassed, r

Chapter 26

Micah POV As soon as he was gone, Queen Winnie placed the protection spell back on the palace and we all started walking back to our wing of the castle. As we were walking away, I could still hear the screaming man. I turned to King Izzoth, “What are we going to do with him?” King Izzoth waved him off, “He’ll be dead in a few minutes.” We continued walking to our wing and met mom, Adele and Bridget in the living room. I suggested, “Why don’t we teleport back to the house and see if we can get mom and Adele to make some lunch for us?” King Izzoth smiled, “By all means, we should go.” Mom, Adele, and Bridget stood and we all held hands as we blinked and opened our eyes to see we were home. Mom and Adele walked into the kitchen and started making lunch while the rest of us walked into the conference room. As soon as the door is closed, I hear my mom start crying. We all run to the kitchen and mom is on the phone. I hear her cry and tell the person on the other end of the line, “We will

Chapter 27

Adele POV Oh, my goddess! King Uther is gone because of me. That is the only thought that keeps running through my head. Their whole plan goes in one ear and out the other for me because I feel responsible. It’s bad enough I got Gabe killed while he was trying to help me, but now I have King Uther’s death on my conscience. I don’t know how I will ever be able to live with myself. Everyone has told me it’s not my fault and Princess Chloe has told me they don’t hold me responsible, but if it weren’t for me, the dark warlocks wouldn’t have been anywhere near him. Nobody can convince me otherwise. I just wanted to go hide in my room and contemplate my existence on this earth. I had just lifted myself out of the black abyss that I knew I was headed into when the doorbell rang again. I walked to the door and opened it, finding Carrie standing there. She asked, “How are you, hon? I hear you are having a difficult time. I came out to see if you want to talk about it.” I sighed, “Let me guess

Chapter 28

Dad responded, “Baby girl, I would rather you stay here with us. Someone is going to need to stay behind to take care of your mom. She is going to need you to make sure she gets her medicine on time. We will both be very busy with our magic. You will need to make sure your mother and I eat and hydrate too. Would you mind doing that?” I nodded, “I can do that. I understand why you don’t want me outside this house. I do have one question.” Mom asked, “What’s that?” I asked, “Is the back yard protected like the house is?” Mom shook her head, “It’s not, but we can make sure it gets the same protection.” I asked, “Would you please do that?” Mom and dad nodded and I smiled, “Thank you.” Queen Winnie appeared and I saw her in the back yard, casting a spell. I smiled, knowing that she was protecting the yard for me. I would love to go out there and pick blackberries for a cobbler or muffins. Carrie walked up beside me as I watched Queen Winnie, “You are wanting to feel safe going out there, a

Chapter 29

Bridget and I started macerating our berries, then I asked, “How are you with peeling onions?” She responded with a raised eyebrow, “I burn frozen pizza.” That made me laugh out loud and mom asked, “What’s so funny?” I laughed, “I’m trying to teach Bridget how to cook. When I asked her how she is with peeling onions, she told me she burns frozen pizza.” Mom laughed as she put a comforting hand on Bridget’s shoulder, “It’s okay, sweetie. We all have to start somewhere. She’s been cooking since she was tall enough to stand on a stool to see what is in a pot. She’s been baking even longer.” I smiled, “We are making a beef roast for supper tonight.” Mom smiled, “Sounds amazing.” Then she looked into the bowls with the macerating fruit, “Let me guess… Blackberry muffins and blueberry cobbler.” I nodded and laughed while mom explained, “She hates blueberries, so she puts them in things she won’t want to eat.” Bridget laughed as mom walked away. I took a knife and an onion and got Bridget’s a
