Chapter 1: Downfalls to Writing

Genevieve:The bright lights of the large bookstore brought tears to my eyes. It was a dull throb in the back of my head. It added together with the ache in my cheeks of smiling too much, and my wrist kinked because of moving it too much. How much longer was this going to take?“Just another ten books,” Karoline whispered near my ear as she bent down next to my chair. It’s like she read my mind. I almost jumped. Almost. “Thank fuck,” I muttered under my breath. I can’t have my readers hearing how irritated I am because of this.Don’t get me wrong, I love to talk with them and see the light in their eyes as they finally get to meet the face behind the pages, but sometimes it gets a bit too much. No, scratch that. It gets to be a lot. One downfall of writing steamy romance, I suppose. Though it’s not quite on the level as some authors, my books tend to be a bit more heated and R-rated than most.Even so, I still end up always getting the creeps. They come out of the woodwork like termit

Chapter 2: Just This Once

Raphael:Goddamn, I can’t believe I was actually going through with this. It’s been years, wait, more like a decade, since I had started working with Havoc Security. I mean, Jason’s my best pal, of course I’d taken the job when he begged me to. But it was meant to be temporary. To help train his men into protectors. To show them what being a bodyguard was all about. Now, it’s been eleven years, and I need out. Badly. Especially as the Havoc Daemons have slowly dripped into the security section of the business. Their mobster ways are going to run us further into the ground. Luckily, our branch, Wolff Protection, has been clean of any dirt or blood. So far anyway.“Come on Raph, please don’t do this to me.” Jason leans back in his large office chair, scratching at his thinning hairline as he stared down at his desk.On top of which laid a very, dare I say, delicately worded letter indicating my resignation.“Sorry J, I can’t keep doing this, and you know it. I’m not built for it anymore

Chapter 3: A Tough Decision

Genevieve:Could he stop staring? It wasn’t that unusual for men to stare, I mean, they usually did especially when they found out what I did for a living, but the way this man, Mr. Bard, was doing so kept me on constant edge. I could feel his eyes follow my every move. It wasn’t as uncomfortable as it was when others stared at me. Like his two coworkers who I completely forget the names of. There was a dark, heated allurement to his gaze that had my heart in a constant quiver.Luckily, Karoline did most of the talking. I don’t think I could handle all three sets of masculine eyes on me right now. Not while this particular one was already staring me down.“Thank you again for coming so quickly.” Karoline took a seat next to me on the couch once she had handed one of the men across from me a glass of water.“We’re sorry we couldn’t get here earlier. We were taking a weekend off from our last client and didn’t get to the office until today,” the man on the right explained after he took

Chapter 4: Compromise

Raphael:She was fucking gorgeous. Her pouted lips drooped just enough that they were begging for someone to lay claim to them. Her greyish eyes were anything but innocent, and yet still held a naivety about them. She was no stranger to having a stalker, or even the fear that it invoked within her. The idea of what she must have gone through—was going through—it curdled within my stomach and boulders rolled, ready to send my fists into someone’s face. She needed protecting. This was more serious than I thought, and if the police weren’t going to do a damn thing for her, I sure as hell would.I wouldn’t let anyone defile her life anymore. Not even my sorry ass.“Are you serious?” Genevieve’s assistant gasped. What was her name again? She handed me her card earlier, but the moment my eyes had fallen on the vivacious goddess before me, my mind had veered. It still was off track, but not enough to know that I had work to do. I needed to be professional. I couldn’t get stuck with my dick o

Chapter 5: Family Pains

Genevieve:“Are you alright?” Mr. Bard–no, Raphael was his name–leaned down to whisper into my ear as we sat next to each other in the SUV.A shiver burned its way from the tip of my shoulder where his own touched mine, and reverberated through my body and down my spine, heating my stomach at his closeness. His breath swayed the few strands of hair that lay against my cheek. Why did he constantly make my body crave his contact? It had been ages since I’d felt anything remotely this intense before.“Um, yeah. Just, it’s hard to move.” I shifted in my seat, the center one in the back row. I tried my best not to let my hips brush up against either Raphael or Vin, but it was impossible. Though Vin wasn’t as large and bulky as Raphael was, my oversized a*s made it so we were all squished together.Raphael cleared his throat as the side of my thigh rubbed against his. The smooth material of his slacks slid against my bare skin that peeked out from below my dress. I shouldn’t have worn it. B

Chapter 6: Unwanted Emotions

Raphael:I shouldn’t have brought up her family. Genevieve trembled with her pent-up agony; I saw it in the way she responded to the text message. The sharp movements were coupled with the quivering breath she released once it was sent. I assumed the woman, ‘Jennifer’, was a relative, as she had reacted when I asked her about it.With issues of my own, I could see the anguish and heartache that was painted all over her as she looked up at me. Her eyes were wide, innocent, not aware of the thoughts that ran rampant through my mind. If she knew what I wanted to do to her…with her…she would run the opposite direction. We had barely just met and I already needed to take a step back. If I didn’t, I wasn’t sure what I would end up doing. As we slid into park near the entrance, all I could think about was the way my name sounded as it left Genevieve’s lips. The way her teeth gently pressed against her luscious lower lip halfway through and how her tongue curled at the end, just barely visibl

Chapter 7: My Bodyguard's Mistake

Genevieve:“Ms. Blake?” A male’s voice slashed through the foggy atmosphere that was my brain and my entire body seized up.It’s not him, right? No, he wouldn’t be bold enough to waltz right up to me at a party like this.Right?Slowly, very slowly, I swiveled on my stool to make eye contact with the stranger that was only a foot away from me at this point. Where’s Raphael? Was he still close by? He didn’t leave me, right? There he is. His dark, calculated scowl is within my peripheral, his arms at his side and hands in tight fists. He’s there for me. The tension in my own shoulders began to relax and I gave my attention to the stranger once more.“Yes?”“I have a delivery,” The man explained. He handed over a large manila envelope and I did my best to retrieve it while my hands trembled.“Who’s it from?” My throat was closed up, my words garbled, but I knew the man’s answer before he even opened his mouth.“Sorry,” he shook his head, “I can’t say. The order comes in, and I deliver.”

Chapter 8: Party Crasher

Genevieve:“I know you’re there.”His voice was distant and cruel. A crackly, angry tone that grated along my every bone, and yanked on every ridge of my spine. It was him. He was talking to me.He knew I was the one that answered? Anyone could have—He’s still here.As the world shifted around me, the edges of my vision a blur and my ears filled with the voices of the party-goers, I searched. I looked at the sea of faces and tried to pick him out. To notice anyone that was on the phone, yet a majority of them were. They were all laughing, joking, happy. Where the fuck was he?Raphael.I needed him. Was he still close?“Oh Genna, nothing to say to me?” His voice shocked me back to reality, my entire body vibrating with terror.I steeled my nerves. “What do you want?”His laugh cut into my chest and burned up through my throat as bile. “Oh Genna, isn’t that obvious? I want you.”“You can’t have me.” The words slipped out on a hiss that I wasn’t expecting, but they didn’t seem to faze h
