Chapter 31

Smith dragged me to our room. Holding my hair tightly in his hand. Hurting me with every step he took. I screamed and fought. Trying to escape out of his grip. The lifeless body of Carson was moved out of sight. My heart clenched at the thought of him. He stormed inside our room before he threw me on the bed. The tears that escaped my eyes never stopped. “You aren’t my mate,” I said. The anger that rushed through my veins was somehting I havent felt before.   Smith's eyes pierced into mine. The ones I thought I loved changed into something I hate. “You are,” he said through gritted teeth. “A mate of mine would never hurt me.” Before I could take my next breath, my cheek burned from the slap he gave me. The taste of copper moved over my tongue. “You’re mine,” he said while his hand moved to my throat, squeezing it shut. I struggled in his grasp. I tried to scratch him, kick him

Chapter 32

Jamie POV   I sneaked back inside through the window, hoping I didn’t make a sound. I was a bit surprised to see Smith was still sound asleep. I moved as quietly as possible. Not knowing what to do next.   The last words that left Carson’s lips before Smith killed him, resonated inside my mind. “All this isn’t…”   I looked around the room, searching for something that I could use against Smith. He doesn’t deserve to live after what he did. I don’t believe he is my mate. And even if he is, a monster doesn’t deserve to live.    After I couldn’t find anything, I stepped inside the bathroom. A sigh left my lips when my eyes met my own in the mirror, my hand trailing a path down my neck. Moving past the bruises, Smith left, to the spot where I felt like something was missing.    I’m not backing down. With a trembling hand, I grabbed a towel and wrapped it around my hand. Wit

Chapter 33

“I’m ready. Are you?” Matina asked. With a heavy sigh, I nodded. I hoped Carson would wake up before I went in to get Jamie. Or at least try. Every passing second, I could feel Carson getting stronger and Jamie getting weaker. The bond between me and Jamie is almost nonexistent. Matina handed me a glass, gesturing that I should drink it. It wasn’t the same as with Carson. However, I had no choice but to trust her. I drank the glass empty in one gulp before handing it back to Matina. Ignoring the filthy taste on my tongue, I laid down beside Jamie when my surroundings started to blur. The last words I heard before the darkness consumed me were, “bring her back, Ares.” Slowly the darkness was being replaced by light. The silence that surrounded me before was being replaced by… moans. “What is happening?” I asked Gideon. Who only grunted in response. When my vision was restored, I almost jumped out of my skin when I saw Estelle riding me. “Oh no, get her off now!” Gideo

Chapter 34

When our lips locked, I felt her stirring beneath me. A small spark moved between our lips. I hoped it would be enough for her to come back to me. However, when I stepped back, I noticed she still wouldn’t wake up. I was about to take her in my arms when I heard guards approaching. More than I could take alone, especially if they are these fake lifeless shells Smith created. It seems only the ones who had their wolves were real people. I quickly moved away and hid in the next room while listening closely. Gideon almost took over when he heard Smith’s voice. I managed to push him back and peaked around the corner. It seemed he was here to take Jamie with him. He had seven guards with him. I could sense they all had wolves. Meaning they were really here and could be killed more easily. With a deep breath, I made my move, wanting to rip Smith’s head clean off. But when her voice resonated in my mind, I froze. “Wait,” Rhys said inside my mind. I was surprised and relieved to he

Chapter 35

Jamie POV I was slowly waking up. My head was pounding like crazy, my body sore and broken. My hand moved through my hair before a hiss left my lips when I touched something on my neck. Gently, I brushed my fingers on the spot. Only then did I recognize the shape. A mark. Slowly, everything was coming back to me. My mates Ares and Carson. How Smith trapped me in this world he created. How he marked me… wait.. no… “Finally, you’re awake.” His voice made a shiver move down my spine. Not out of fear but out of despise. Now I know who he is, what he took from me. A growl left my lips, one that sounded more like an angry kitten than a wolf's growl. The anger I felt towards Smith was being replaced by confusion when I couldn’t sense my wolf. “When you’re done fighting me, you will have her back,” he said while moving closer, stepping out of the darkness that surrounded him. I tried to move away when his hand moved closer. Trying to touch me. An impatient growl left his lips before he

The whispers became louder and louder by the second, making Smith's grip on me only tighten. When it seemed like he was losing his temper, Gamma Ripley escorted me out of the hall. He didn’t harm me or hold me too tightly as Smith did seconds ago. I truly believe he thinks he is doing the right thing. I know I can't convince him at this moment, I will wait. But I will escape this place. “Aren’t you going to ask me why I said Ares?” I asked Ripley when we arrived at my room. Or what I believe is my room. “The king Alpha has already explained,” he said with a genuine smile. Not even hiding the pity he felt for me. I don’t need his pity. Especially if it’s because of the lies Smith told him. “You will see in time,” I said. His eyes that held his pity for me changed into confusion. “Is there a library in this place?” I asked when there wasn't a word leaving his lips. “Yes, I can take you there tomorrow,” he said with the same smile as before. “You know, I’m not the confused on

Chapter 37

The entire day went by in a blur. We had to visit different packs. Everyone I met today had the same look on their faces. They all pitied me. But none helped me. All believed Smith’s words so quickly, so easily. My heart almost leaped out of my chest when I saw Grayson. I could see the same surprise on his face that I assumed was on mine. I signaled Ripley to go talk to Grayson. Thankfully, he got the hint and excuses himself. Smith didn’t think twice about it and continued telling his fake stories. After a half hour, Ripley returned. I knew he couldn’t tell me anything, not with Smith around. “I have to pee,” I said. I could see the uncomfortable faces of the Alpha and Luna before me. “I have to pee,” I said again. If Smith is selling a story that I’m a lunatic that he’s trying to help, this will only work in his favor. Before I could say the same words again, Ripley took me to the bathroom. Probably Smith mind linked him to take me. When we were finally alone, I turned the fauc

Chapter 38

The entire day, I hid my wolf from the outside world. Not wanting to let them know I’m no longer weak. Today was another day of visiting different packs. I noticed we were coming closer to Ares’ packhouse. Rhys was trying to come out of hiding, wanting to search for our mates. “Why are we here?” I asked Smith. “I thought it was best to show you what happened. I know you still believe you can get away from me. This will help you remember what happens if you try,” he said. I could see Ripley tensing up at the sound of Smith’s words. “It doesn’t matter what you do, Smith. I will never be yours,” I said with a smile on my lips. A growl formed in his chest, while his eyes filled with anger. I only sighed and looked out of the window. He can have his tantrums, I only need a moment for him to be distracted. He didn’t even bring enough guards with him, sure he believed I could never run away from him. He was right, but now with my wolf back. I can be free again. Before we turned towar

Chapter 39

The black wolf and Ripley’s wolf rolled on the ground. Rhys quickly took over and tackled the black wolf. Pinning him beneath us while snapping at his neck. Only when I saw his eyes did I recognize him. We both shifted back. While I straddled him, my lips crashed on his. My body moved against his. My moans filled his mouth when he turned us around. The only thing that was missing… no wait, two things. “Where is Carson?” I mumbled against his lips. When the words left my lips, I expected him to be jealous, or angry even. The only thing he did was smile at my words before he claimed my lips again. I wanted an answer, but damn, how much I have missed his presence, his touch, his lips. I could already feel his hard member pressing against my wet folds. The scent of my arousal quickly surrounded us. I moaned when I felt strong arms wrap me from behind. He pressed his chest against my back and whispered, “we missed you.” My heart fluttered at the sound of Carson’s voice. Finally, I hav

Chapter 40

Three weeks ago, after the fire. Ares POV After I got us both to safety, the packhouse collapsed. My heart clenched when I thought of those that didn’t make it outside on time. All that surrounded me was the scent of death. I tried to mind link to my pack members again, only there was no one to answer my calls. “Ares,” Carson said before he started coughing. I was by his side before his next breath could leave his lips. “We have to go,” I said while lifting him in my arms. There was no time to be weakened by the events that had happened, we needed to be strong again to find Jamie. Our mate. I need to make this right. This is all my fault. None of this would have happened if I had let Carson mark Jamie from the start. “Stop,” Carson said. My eyebrows furrowed together in confusion. “What is it? Are you hurt?” I asked while checking if he was injured. “Stop blaming yourself,” he said. “But it’s my fault, Carson,” I said. He shook his head, “you couldn’t have known
