Chapter 80

(Temperance’s POV) The main hall was already packed with werewolves and witches all chatting amongst themselves. Between the pack and the coven, there were 230 people here and while the majority of them were werewolves, the witches still had a sizable contribution.  A witch’s coven runs much like a pack in that there is a hierarchy. Just like the pack has the Alpha, Beta and other ranks, the witches have the central council. The central council is the twelve most powerful witches, and the most powerful as the leader and priestess. My mother was the priestess before me. It is an inherited position, but that’s no guarantee and even as my mother’s daughter I had to prove myself before I was given the title. Beyond the council, though, we didn’t have any ranking system other than by how skilled you were at your craft and what element you specialised in.

Chapter 81

(Kaeleigh’s POV) I sat in the spell and watched my beautiful mother. It was like I could feel her with me. I listened as she told us about the creation of the pack I had called home for the first twenty-four years of my life. How my father had given up his Alpha title, my mother had altered her whole identity and heritage. How over two hundred people, witches and werewolves, had changed everything about themselves. I didn’t know much about witches, but I knew enough to know that they held their magic sacred, as a gift from the moon goddess herself, much like a werewolf’s wolf is. They had put their lives and the lives of their families in danger. And all of this was for me. They had vowed to protect me, and paid for it with their lives. “I will protect you with my la

Chapter 82

(Kaeleigh’s POV)“What do you mean by that?” I snapped, “why can’t you just tell me?” and Adam just smirked. I sighed. I wasn’t sure how much more I could take. How many more secrets had been ruling my life?“When you have spoken to her, though, feel free to come and chat again.” I wanted to punch his smarmy face. I scowled at him before I turned and walked away before I said something someone would regret. “See you soon beautiful,” he sang after me“Fuck off,” I called back, and he laughed.I got back up to the entrance and hit my card against the reader, and it turned green and the door opened. Light flooded in from outside and when my eyes

Chapter 83

(Kaeleigh’s POV)I pulled Elaina through the living room and into my room. I closed the door behind me and turned and looked at her. She had moved to my bed and was sitting watching me. I crossed to the bed and sat next to her, and we both looked at the floor for a few moments. I felt awkward and hated it, and the tension felt like it was killing me.“It’s my fault, well, our fault,” Elaina whispered, not taking her eyes off the floor. I glanced at her. I didn’t want to ask, but I knew I had to.“What’s your fault?” my voice shaking,“Your wolf.” I closed my eyes as she confirmed my fears. “It’s our fault that you don’t have your wolf.”&ldquo

Chapter 84

(Chase’s POV)“Oh my goddess, Chase!” Kaeleigh sobbed against my chest and clung to me like I was the only stable thing she had.“Baby, please,” I pleaded, “Talk to me” and she continued to sob. I glared at Elaina, who was standing there watching with Jeremy’s arms around her. At my glare Jeremy stepped forward in front of him and growled.“What the fuck happened?” I growled, and she shook her head.“I don’t know,” she cried “We were talking, and it was good news, but she just started crying,” she then looked at Kaeleigh and reached out. “Kaeleigh honey please,” and Kaeleigh just turned her head further into my chest an

Chapter 85

(Chase’s POV)My dad linked for a pack doctor while I tried to wake Kaeleigh.“Leave her alone Chase,’’ my dad snapped at me, “you’ve caused enough damage.” I growled at him. He immediately squared up to me. “You want to take a go son, I may be thirty years your elder, but I am still your Alpha and I will put you on your ass.” That was enough to shock me. My dad was really angry at me. Shit, I looked at Kaeleigh, who had gone deathly pale and was starting to burn up.“Dad,” I pleaded, “what’s happening?” “What’s happening?” he shouted. "What do you think is happening? Why would you try to mark her when you know the conditions?”

Chapter 86

(Kaeleigh’s POV)I felt his canines sink into my marking spot and heat rushed all over my body as I finally understood what they talked about with energy. I could feel Chase’s essence coursing through my… well, everywhere. I cried out and felt him arrive too, and his seed rushed in to complete the bond with his essence. And then… … White hot searing pain rushed through me. It was like what was so perfect and amazing, was suddenly like acid burning its way through my body, eating me from the inside out. I screamed in pain and lost full control of my body as all my muscles felt like they were trying to push away the burning acid and the pain. I could feel a tension, like something was trying to get through, and then all of a sudden it felt like a door was slammed shut and the pain intensified. I couldn’t stand

Chapter 87

(Kaeleigh’s POV)Adam and I headed through the woods quickly. We knew it wouldn’t be long before someone realised that he was gone, or that there were enemy wolves on the territory's border. We had to pass close by the pack houses on the way to the meetup point beyond the plunge pool, and everything in me screamed at me to turn back, find Chase. Everything except Ana. I could already tell that she was getting quieter, and that she was being pulled back to the cage. But she wanted to get free, and she knew that Asher was a strong enough Alpha for it. She told me that she had been responsible for my confusing feelings around Asher, and that she would continue to help me feel better about what I had to do. We made it to the top of the waterfall, and I made my way down the little path as quickly

Chapter 88

(Chase’s POV)I ran as fast as I could on four paws after the car that was carrying my mate away from me, the echo of her rejection still burning in my veins. It didn’t matter. I needed her back. She was my mate, my goddess given soulmate. The car disappeared around the corner and by the time I had got there; it had disappeared. Everything drained out of me and I collapsed to the floor, whimpering. The despair took over as the hole in my heart widened to swallow me whole.I lifted my snout and allowed my pain to sing out in my long mournful series of howls.******(Jensen’s POV)*** One Month Later ***My alarm

Chapter 89

(Kaeleigh’s POV)The howling had haunted my dreams every night for the last month. No matter what image played in my head, I heard the soulful mourning of my fated mate. Even though I had rejected him, ripping my own heart out in the process, I still felt everything. He was close by at first. Adam told me that he had been sighted along the borders, and he had been responsible for several injuries of the warriors on guard duty. I heard Asher telling his Beta Cade that if something wasn’t done soon, they would need to take drastic action. Thankfully, the attacks seemed to stop about a week in and Asher promised he would leave things alone as long as he didn’t come back. But even though the howling had stopped outside, it had continued in my dreams. And not a night had gone by that I hadn&
