(Chase’s POV)
“Oh my goddess, Chase!” Kaeleigh sobbed against my chest and clung to me like I was the only stable thing she had.
“Baby, please,” I pleaded, “Talk to me” and she continued to sob. I glared at Elaina, who was standing there watching with Jeremy’s arms around her. At my glare Jeremy stepped forward in front of him and growled.
“What the fuck happened?” I growled, and she shook her head.
“I don’t know,” she cried “We were talking, and it was good news, but she just started crying,” she then looked at Kaeleigh and reached out.
“Kaeleigh honey please,” and Kaeleigh just turned her head further into my chest an
(Chase’s POV)My dad linked for a pack doctor while I tried to wake Kaeleigh.“Leave her alone Chase,’’ my dad snapped at me, “you’ve caused enough damage.” I growled at him. He immediately squared up to me. “You want to take a go son, I may be thirty years your elder, but I am still your Alpha and I will put you on your ass.” That was enough to shock me. My dad was really angry at me. Shit, I looked at Kaeleigh, who had gone deathly pale and was starting to burn up.“Dad,” I pleaded, “what’s happening?”“What’s happening?” he shouted. "What do you think is happening? Why would you try to mark her when you know the conditions?”
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I felt his canines sink into my marking spot and heat rushed all over my body as I finally understood what they talked about with energy. I could feel Chase’s essence coursing through my… well, everywhere. I cried out and felt him arrive too, and his seed rushed in to complete the bond with his essence. And then…… White hot searing pain rushed through me. It was like what was so perfect and amazing, was suddenly like acid burning its way through my body, eating me from the inside out. I screamed in pain and lost full control of my body as all my muscles felt like they were trying to push away the burning acid and the pain. I could feel a tension, like something was trying to get through, and then all of a sudden it felt like a door was slammed shut and the pain intensified. I couldn’t stand
(Kaeleigh’s POV)Adam and I headed through the woods quickly. We knew it wouldn’t be long before someone realised that he was gone, or that there were enemy wolves on the territory's border. We had to pass close by the pack houses on the way to the meetup point beyond the plunge pool, and everything in me screamed at me to turn back, find Chase. Everything except Ana.I could already tell that she was getting quieter, and that she was being pulled back to the cage. But she wanted to get free, and she knew that Asher was a strong enough Alpha for it. She told me that she had been responsible for my confusing feelings around Asher, and that she would continue to help me feel better about what I had to do.We made it to the top of the waterfall, and I made my way down the little path as quickly
(Chase’s POV)I ran as fast as I could on four paws after the car that was carrying my mate away from me, the echo of her rejection still burning in my veins. It didn’t matter. I needed her back. She was my mate, my goddess given soulmate. The car disappeared around the corner and by the time I had got there; it had disappeared. Everything drained out of me and I collapsed to the floor, whimpering. The despair took over as the hole in my heart widened to swallow me whole.I lifted my snout and allowed my pain to sing out in my long mournful series of howls.******(Jensen’s POV)*** One Month Later ***My alarm
(Kaeleigh’s POV)The howling had haunted my dreams every night for the last month. No matter what image played in my head, I heard the soulful mourning of my fated mate. Even though I had rejected him, ripping my own heart out in the process, I still felt everything. He was close by at first. Adam told me that he had been sighted along the borders, and he had been responsible for several injuries of the warriors on guard duty. I heard Asher telling his Beta Cade that if something wasn’t done soon, they would need to take drastic action. Thankfully, the attacks seemed to stop about a week in and Asher promised he would leave things alone as long as he didn’t come back. But even though the howling had stopped outside, it had continued in my dreams. And not a night had gone by that I hadn&
(Kaeleigh POV) I slammed the door as I rushed into my room. What the hell was wrong with me? I was still shaken from the kiss. I touched my lips with my fingers and instantly remembered the feel of Asher’s lips on mine. This wasn’t right. How could I have feelings for him? Of all people. How could I be upset over Hunter but then think of Asher and the way his lips felt on mine? Or the way his hands felt as they slide down my body towards my- “FUCK!” I exclaimed “What the hell?” I shook the invading thoughts from my head and started to pace my room. I was clearly going stir crazy locked up in here. I needed to get out! I quickly changed into a sports bra and joggers and pulled my hair up into a high ponytail and grabbed my earphones and phone. Of course, it couldn’t be considered a real phone since it was blocked from making calls apart from to certain n
(Adam’s POV)Seeing Dayna standing at the door made me feel a rush of sadness for the kid. The games that Asher and Malcolm have played with her were awful. I was still apprehensive when I found out that Malcolm had suggested Kaeleigh had control of Dayna. I couldn’t quite see the angle, but I was sure as hell gonna find out. I watched as Kaeleigh surveyed Dayna. I knew that it looked bad. Asher had taken a particular liking to Dayna six or seven years ago and she had willingly gone to his bed. I remembered the hopeful look in her eyes back only to know it was going to end badly for her. Only it never ended. She kept coming back, and he kept taking her and treating her like trash, along with his other harem collection.Maybe Dayna serving Kaeleigh would give the girl some space away from the pair of evil bastards. And maybe Kaeleigh would see the le
(Jensen’s POV)I looked at the message on my phone and frowned. I was shocked to get the phone call two weeks ago from Adam, of all people. I was then furious at what he had told me. I knew I had to do something. I had put off telling Chase about the alliance with Adam. One because I knew he wouldn’t believe that Adam wasn’t double crossing me. But he didn’t hear the pain in the guy’s voice on the phone. Or the fact that he said he would hand himself over for punishment as soon as he knew Kaeleigh was safe. He knew when saying that that the only punishment in this situation would result in his death. But second, I didn’t trust that we didn’t have someone among us that wasn’t still working for Crimson Shadow. I felt bad about it, but I really didn’t feel like I trusted anyone right now. So for now, the only person who knew about Adam was me.

(Kaeleigh’s POV)*** Two Weeks Later ***I stood on the stage at the former Dark Moon and now Dark Circle pack territory and looked out across the crowd. I felt warmth rush through me as Chase squeezed my hand beside me as we waited for the crowd to quiet down. The crowd was a mix of werewolves, witches and hybrids, although the latter were massively outnumbered by the first two. The last two weeks had been crazy busy as we worked to create some sort of order in everything. The battle had ended in our favour, but we still had losses. I had been upset to learn from Jensen that Zack’s mate had been expecting and watching as she received the news that she had already felt was heart wrenching. I had been told that the death of her mate had sent her into shock. This wasn’t uncommon, as the separat
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I clung to Adam as I screamed for help. There was blood everywhere, and his eyes were fluttering. Dayna was crying.“Why can’t I do anything?” she screamed. “Adam I mean it, don’t you dare die on me, not when I have just told you I love you.” I looked up at her in shock and she looked at me, tears streaming.“Kaeleigh, tell him he can’t die. We agreed. We are choosing each other as mates. He has to live.” She shook Adam as his eyes closed. “Kaeleigh, order him, please,” I shook my head and looked down at Adam in my arms.“Why did you do something as stupid as that?” I cried at him and his eyelids fluttered open again. He looked up and smiled.
(Asher’s POV)“Well, look what we have here,” I snarled as I walked into the clearing. “If it isn’t my not so loyal Beta.” I had seen Cade just as he had snapped the neck of that imbecile Fischer. As I got closer, I saw him holding his mate. I watched them as he comforted her. He was so gentle and caring. Before her, Cade had been a different sort. He had always been ready for a good time with the supply of Omegas that we kept around and I could pinpoint to the day that he had met his mate. Everything changed. He stopped drinking as much, stopped going out. He disappeared on weekends on private business.I got why. A fated mate is an awful weapon in the wrong hands and my father had taken a dislike to Cade pretty much after his own father had left the pack. If my father had known that Cade had found his mate, he would h
(Zoey’s POV)“I gotta go,” I hissed, watching the blond streaks as they flashed through the woods. “I got a score to settle.” I started walking towards the last place that I saw the bleached blond trash. I could feel Cade’s presence behind me. I wasn’t sure whether he was there to protect me or to protect her at this point.I woke up crying almost every night after reoccurring dreams about what she did. Dreams that repeated over me held in silver chains and her smirking face as she… I shuddered at the thought of it. I had never been so violated before in my life. I still struggled with intimacy with Cade. The irony of the fact that for the first time in almost five years I could be open and not hide my love for my mate and yet I couldn’t stand to be touched by him. Cade had tried to talk to me about w
(Jensen’s POV)“My Hero,” Tatum grinned at me, and I couldn’t help but grin back.“Yeah, well, let’s not need that anymore,” I said as I helped her to a sitting position.“What about Jeremy?” Tatum asked and Elaina called over from where she was sitting next to the unconscious wolf.“He’s gonna be fine. It’ll take some healing, but werewolves do that quickly.” I looked at Tatum, who looked relieved.“Where’s Luke?” Tatum asked, looking around.“Your brother is as silly as you are,” the other witch, who I was unfamiliar with, said, glaring at the entrance to the n
(Tatum’s POV)I rushed into the entrance of the nook where I could see the evidence of magic flying around everywhere. I knew Jade and Luke were close behind. I surveyed the area and saw Chase on the ground next to a big black wolf and a woman with jet black hair. The woman was tending to the wolf as he laid on the floor, panting. At the other end of the nook I could see the redhead witch Isabella and my mum. There was a redheaded man standing between me and them and from the magic he was using, I could tell he was a sorcerer. I glanced at Luke, who nodded and he cast a slow down spell. While he did that, I felt for my new-found powers and sent out energy, or whatever it was, to the surrounding trees asking them for help. I felt the connection and began to bend the trees to my will.Jade appeared as well as Jeremy and I grinned. The sorcerer, on the
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“ATTACK!”I watched as thousands of bodies appeared from the surrounding area, some in human form, some in wolf. They reached the outer edges of the town in a matter of seconds, so they must have been in the immediate area and the woods surrounding. I drew my eyes back to Asher who was watching me with an intense look. He smirked as his eyes found mine and then pulled his shirt to reveal the mark again.I rolled my eyes before closing them and blocking everything and everyone around me out. I envisioned my army of wolves, the symbol of my Alpha power and the reason I would never bow to anyone. I pulled the energy from that power and pulled it in tight. The tension alone was enough to make me feel like I was going to burst. I opened my eyes, knowing that right now they shone g
(Kaeleigh’s POV)Three hours later, a now mobile and newly sealed Cade was sitting on the sofa in the living room with Zoey on his knee and I was inspecting Tatum’s wrist. She and Jensen had emerged from his room a few minutes before and Tatum was jumping around excitedly. They had completed the bond last night and through the night Tatum had completed the transition into a Hybrid, much in the same way as Chase had with me. I looked at the pattern that had formed on her wrist and saw it was an extension of Jensen’s pattern. I smiled. I still didn’t know how everything worked, but I was loving finding out.“Oh, and watch,” Tatum said, suddenly very excited. She turned and looked around and then focused on a dying houseplant that a scowling Luke was standing by. She walked over and placed her hand on the soil and, slowly
