Chapter 110

(Cade POV)I stood in the shadows at the back, close to the trees. I watched in the hall earlier as she had been awarded the Elder rank. I watched her parents leave. I would never get to be introduced to them. I would never get the chance to ask for her father’s permission to take his daughter’s hand in marriage. The world would never know that we had found each other. And now, by the bonfire, I listened as they told stories about her life. Her friends talked about her loves and her hate. About her crazy schemes and her beautiful dreams. Of course, I had learned nothing new. In the limited times we spent together in secret, we had talked about everything and nothing. I knew my Zee better than anyone. And yet no one would ever know that I existed in her life, or her in mine. I had this great big hole in me and I couldn’t tell anyone about

Chapter 111

(Cade’s POV)“I think it’s time we have a talk,” I watched Kaeleigh as she swayed on her feet. What was everyone drinking tonight? Adam glared at me from his seat on the floor. Kaeleigh’s eyes were rimmed red, like she had been crying the whole day. She probably was. I had a feeling that what I was about to tell her wasn’t going to help, either.************* Flashback 30 minutes earlier ***I knew as soon as I entered my bedroom that I wasn’t alone. I walked in and switched on my lamp by the bed.“What do you want, Asher?” I sighed. “It’s late, and I’m tired.”“I wanted to confirm a theory,&rdquo

Chapter 112

(Kaeleigh’s POV)I walked with Cade down into the gardens. It was coming up to 4am, so it was still quiet. I knew from observations out of the window over the last seven or so weeks that warrior training started at 5am. But that was in the front gardens, and where Cade led me to was somewhere else. The garden was obviously not a working area garden. There were flower beds full of brightly coloured flowers in neat rows and in the centre was a stone shelter of columns. Cade was quiet as we walked up to the shelter, which I was happy with. Just being outside felt nice. I certainly wasn’t in any rush to go back to my room. There were some stone benches, and Cade gestured to me to sit on one. I watched him as he sat next to me. I liked Cade; I didn’t like that he was Asher’s Beta, but he was a nice guy. He looked stressed right now, and

Chapter 113

(Kaeleigh’s POV)“She’s your mate?” I couldn’t believe what Cade had just told me. “Like your fated mate? The one that you have been mated to in secret for several years?” and he nodded.“How is that even possible?” a thousand thoughts were running through my head at once. “I mean, I never saw her mark,” and he chuckled.“That woman is damn good at makeup,” he said. “Once she used some stuff on me, took all my tattoos away, it was crazy.” “So you let her put make-up on you?” I giggled, and he smiled.“I’d let her do anything she wants.” And then Cade frowned.

Chapter 114

(Asher’s POV)I watched Cade’s expression turn to horror in reaction to what I just said. Frankly, I was hurt that he would think I would do something like that. Despite his obvious betrayal of loyalty to me just now, I would never dream of willingly allowing my bastard of a father near his woman. But I needed Cade. He was my best friend and had been with me through all the shit. “I don’t want to have to do this, Cade,” I said, trying to make him understand that really didn’t want to cause him pain. “But I can’t lose another person that I love.” He looked shocked at what I said and I suspect I was meaning Kaeleigh when I said that, and I was, but I also meant him. I didn’t wanna lose him, too.But yeah, Ka

Chapter 115

(Asher’s POV)I got to the garden just as Cade and Kaeleigh were sitting down. I stayed way back in the bushes; I didn’t want Kaeleigh to see me, not yet, anyway. I watched as they sat in silence for some time. Every now and then Kaeleigh would look around at the garden with a look of wonder on her face. It was still pre-dawn, so all the colours were muted. I couldn’t wait for her to see the garden in the daylight. I already knew she would love it.They had started talking, but even with my werewolf hearing, I couldn’t hear what they were saying. Cade stood up and walked a semicircle around the shelter until he came to stand directly in my line of sight. Even in the dark, I could tell he was looking at me.“What are you doing here, Asher?” his voice buzzed in through the mind link

Chapter 116

(Kaeleigh’s POV)I had a feeling I would end up here. I looked around at the surrounding scene. It was the same as the last time I was here. I was back on the crescent-shaped cliff and everyone was still asleep. I remembered I had been thinking about Elaina’s message when I had fallen asleep, so maybe the answer was here. I looked down at my wrist and the bracelet was still there, only this time it looked to be glowing on the inside. I looked at it curiously and saw the central gold strand was causing the glow. I looked around again, not really sure why I was here. Well, I knew why I was here, but normally there was someone else here too. I was here because I was thinking about Elaina’s message. She said that it wasn’t me in the cage, and I had to learn about my mum’s side of me. I looked towards the cage at the side of the c

Chapter 117

(Kaeleigh’s POV)I had only been asleep for a few hours, but I already felt more refreshed than I had in a long time. Feeling the energy from the bracelet, which was still on my wrist when I woke up, I won’t lie. I had half expected it to disappear. But feeling that energy and seeing it flow through Dia, and animating her, felt like it gave me an extra shot of, well… something I couldn’t put my finger on. I jumped out of bed, stating I wanted to go to the gym and headed to the shower, as Cade grumbled about it being too early. I quickly showered and pulled on my workout clothes. I came out of the bathroom and tied my hair into a wet, messy bun on top of my head and checked to see if anyone wanted to come with me. Adam told me he was going to take Dayna to pick up the rest of her things from her old room, and Cade gave him the inst

Chapter 118

(Kaeleigh’s POV)I rushed to grab a cloth and wet it with cold water before going to Dayna and wiping her forehead. She leaned against the cloth and smiled at me. “It’s passed now,” she said and tried to pull herself up, but her legs gave out. “Adam!” I shouted, and he was in the room a second later. “Hey darling,” he said, scooping Dayna up in his arms. “Let’s get you to bed.”“No!” Dayna protested. “I don’t wanna go to bed.” Adam shrugged his shoulders and moved to the sofa and put her down in the corner, while I grabbed a blanket and passed it to him. He wrapped her up in the blanket and then went and sat besid

Chapter 119

(Kaeleigh’s POV)“I’m not talking about this any more, Adam,” Dayna shouted as she slammed the door to her room in Adam’s face. They had been arguing for the last half an hour. “Kaeleigh, you talk to her because she sure as hell isn’t listening to me,” Adam pleaded, and I opened my mouth with nothing really to say.“What if she’s right?” Cade asked quietly, and Adam spun on him.“Well, of course you think she’s right. Your boss wins if she’s right.” Cade glared at him. “Listen pal, you don’t know anything about me and Asher. I assure you that the last thing I want is that psychopath getting even more fucking power
