(Asher’s POV)
I got to the garden just as Cade and Kaeleigh were sitting down. I stayed way back in the bushes; I didn’t want Kaeleigh to see me, not yet, anyway. I watched as they sat in silence for some time. Every now and then Kaeleigh would look around at the garden with a look of wonder on her face. It was still pre-dawn, so all the colours were muted. I couldn’t wait for her to see the garden in the daylight. I already knew she would love it.
They had started talking, but even with my werewolf hearing, I couldn’t hear what they were saying. Cade stood up and walked a semicircle around the shelter until he came to stand directly in my line of sight. Even in the dark, I could tell he was looking at me.
“What are you doing here, Asher?” his voice buzzed in through the mind link
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I had a feeling I would end up here. I looked around at the surrounding scene. It was the same as the last time I was here. I was back on the crescent-shaped cliff and everyone was still asleep. I remembered I had been thinking about Elaina’s message when I had fallen asleep, so maybe the answer was here. I looked down at my wrist and the bracelet was still there, only this time it looked to be glowing on the inside. I looked at it curiously and saw the central gold strand was causing the glow.I looked around again, not really sure why I was here. Well, I knew why I was here, but normally there was someone else here too. I was here because I was thinking about Elaina’s message. She said that it wasn’t me in the cage, and I had to learn about my mum’s side of me. I looked towards the cage at the side of the c
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I had only been asleep for a few hours, but I already felt more refreshed than I had in a long time. Feeling the energy from the bracelet, which was still on my wrist when I woke up, I won’t lie. I had half expected it to disappear. But feeling that energy and seeing it flow through Dia, and animating her, felt like it gave me an extra shot of, well… something I couldn’t put my finger on.I jumped out of bed, stating I wanted to go to the gym and headed to the shower, as Cade grumbled about it being too early. I quickly showered and pulled on my workout clothes. I came out of the bathroom and tied my hair into a wet, messy bun on top of my head and checked to see if anyone wanted to come with me. Adam told me he was going to take Dayna to pick up the rest of her things from her old room, and Cade gave him the inst
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I rushed to grab a cloth and wet it with cold water before going to Dayna and wiping her forehead. She leaned against the cloth and smiled at me.“It’s passed now,” she said and tried to pull herself up, but her legs gave out.“Adam!” I shouted, and he was in the room a second later.“Hey darling,” he said, scooping Dayna up in his arms. “Let’s get you to bed.”“No!” Dayna protested. “I don’t wanna go to bed.” Adam shrugged his shoulders and moved to the sofa and put her down in the corner, while I grabbed a blanket and passed it to him. He wrapped her up in the blanket and then went and sat besid
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“I’m not talking about this any more, Adam,” Dayna shouted as she slammed the door to her room in Adam’s face. They had been arguing for the last half an hour.“Kaeleigh, you talk to her because she sure as hell isn’t listening to me,” Adam pleaded, and I opened my mouth with nothing really to say.“What if she’s right?” Cade asked quietly, and Adam spun on him.“Well, of course you think she’s right. Your boss wins if she’s right.” Cade glared at him.“Listen pal, you don’t know anything about me and Asher. I assure you that the last thing I want is that psychopath getting even more fucking power
(Chase’s POV)I woke up on the bathroom floor again. I couldn’t remember how I got here, but it wasn’t unlike every other morning this week. Along with the sickness and the tiredness, I also seemed to have lost all werewolf abilities. I had no werewolf hearing or strength and my healing was almost human slow. I had stumbled yesterday and gone flying into some furniture hard enough that it left a nasty black painful bruise all up my side. It should have healed within minutes, at the most hours. But even as I dragged myself up off the floor this morning, I was still wincing from the pain.I lifted my t-shirt to check the progress in the bathroom mirror and hissed at the display of black and purple that still decorated my side. I heard my bedroom door so quickly pulled my t-shirt down just as Jensen popped his head into the bathroom. He had
(Jensen’s POV)I looked down at my phone and a shiver of excitement went through me as I saw the name on the phone. I turned and faced Chase and grinned.“It’s Isabella!” I said, and he smiled weakly. I accepted the call.“Hey babe,” I answered “Long time no hear.” and she chuckled that soft velvet chuckle that sent shivers down my spine.“Hello Jensen, miss me?” she asked, and I smiled.“Oh, you know it,” I said, and she chuckled again. “I have been trying to get a hold of you. Did you get my messages?” I asked.“Yeah, Jensen,” she said, “I got all of them. I’ve
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“Close your eyes,” he whispered in my ear as his fingers danced ever so lightly on my torso. He moved to look down at my body as he slowly moved near the top of my thigh. He looked back up at me, mischief playing in his blue eyes.“Come on baby,” Asher sighed. “You know you can trust me.” I felt like it was getting harder to breathe, like the air was thinner all of a sudden. I took a deep breath that didn’t seem to fill my lungs and closed my eyes.“Good girl,” Asher purred against my neck and the vibrations of it woke a fire in my lower region and my heavy breathing became pants. Asher captured my nipple in his mouth and bit down lightly, and I gasped. He chuckled as I felt his hand slip between my legs, pushing them open and giving him ac
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I got out of the shower once I finally cooled down. I quickly dried myself and dressed before heading into the bedroom. Cade was up and looking troubled.“Hey” I said and startled him. “What’s wrong?”“Nothing, love,” he said and smiled, but I could tell there was something wrong.“Cade?” he looked conflicted.“I’m getting a lot of fear from Zee at the moment,” he finally said. “There’s no pain, but there is fear. Kaeleigh, I feel so helpless. What kind of mate am I if I can’t even protect her from whatever is scaring her?” I wanted to help him so much. Not just because he was my friend, but it wa

(Kaeleigh’s POV)*** Two Weeks Later ***I stood on the stage at the former Dark Moon and now Dark Circle pack territory and looked out across the crowd. I felt warmth rush through me as Chase squeezed my hand beside me as we waited for the crowd to quiet down. The crowd was a mix of werewolves, witches and hybrids, although the latter were massively outnumbered by the first two. The last two weeks had been crazy busy as we worked to create some sort of order in everything. The battle had ended in our favour, but we still had losses. I had been upset to learn from Jensen that Zack’s mate had been expecting and watching as she received the news that she had already felt was heart wrenching. I had been told that the death of her mate had sent her into shock. This wasn’t uncommon, as the separat
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I clung to Adam as I screamed for help. There was blood everywhere, and his eyes were fluttering. Dayna was crying.“Why can’t I do anything?” she screamed. “Adam I mean it, don’t you dare die on me, not when I have just told you I love you.” I looked up at her in shock and she looked at me, tears streaming.“Kaeleigh, tell him he can’t die. We agreed. We are choosing each other as mates. He has to live.” She shook Adam as his eyes closed. “Kaeleigh, order him, please,” I shook my head and looked down at Adam in my arms.“Why did you do something as stupid as that?” I cried at him and his eyelids fluttered open again. He looked up and smiled.
(Asher’s POV)“Well, look what we have here,” I snarled as I walked into the clearing. “If it isn’t my not so loyal Beta.” I had seen Cade just as he had snapped the neck of that imbecile Fischer. As I got closer, I saw him holding his mate. I watched them as he comforted her. He was so gentle and caring. Before her, Cade had been a different sort. He had always been ready for a good time with the supply of Omegas that we kept around and I could pinpoint to the day that he had met his mate. Everything changed. He stopped drinking as much, stopped going out. He disappeared on weekends on private business.I got why. A fated mate is an awful weapon in the wrong hands and my father had taken a dislike to Cade pretty much after his own father had left the pack. If my father had known that Cade had found his mate, he would h
(Zoey’s POV)“I gotta go,” I hissed, watching the blond streaks as they flashed through the woods. “I got a score to settle.” I started walking towards the last place that I saw the bleached blond trash. I could feel Cade’s presence behind me. I wasn’t sure whether he was there to protect me or to protect her at this point.I woke up crying almost every night after reoccurring dreams about what she did. Dreams that repeated over me held in silver chains and her smirking face as she… I shuddered at the thought of it. I had never been so violated before in my life. I still struggled with intimacy with Cade. The irony of the fact that for the first time in almost five years I could be open and not hide my love for my mate and yet I couldn’t stand to be touched by him. Cade had tried to talk to me about w
(Jensen’s POV)“My Hero,” Tatum grinned at me, and I couldn’t help but grin back.“Yeah, well, let’s not need that anymore,” I said as I helped her to a sitting position.“What about Jeremy?” Tatum asked and Elaina called over from where she was sitting next to the unconscious wolf.“He’s gonna be fine. It’ll take some healing, but werewolves do that quickly.” I looked at Tatum, who looked relieved.“Where’s Luke?” Tatum asked, looking around.“Your brother is as silly as you are,” the other witch, who I was unfamiliar with, said, glaring at the entrance to the n
(Tatum’s POV)I rushed into the entrance of the nook where I could see the evidence of magic flying around everywhere. I knew Jade and Luke were close behind. I surveyed the area and saw Chase on the ground next to a big black wolf and a woman with jet black hair. The woman was tending to the wolf as he laid on the floor, panting. At the other end of the nook I could see the redhead witch Isabella and my mum. There was a redheaded man standing between me and them and from the magic he was using, I could tell he was a sorcerer. I glanced at Luke, who nodded and he cast a slow down spell. While he did that, I felt for my new-found powers and sent out energy, or whatever it was, to the surrounding trees asking them for help. I felt the connection and began to bend the trees to my will.Jade appeared as well as Jeremy and I grinned. The sorcerer, on the
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“ATTACK!”I watched as thousands of bodies appeared from the surrounding area, some in human form, some in wolf. They reached the outer edges of the town in a matter of seconds, so they must have been in the immediate area and the woods surrounding. I drew my eyes back to Asher who was watching me with an intense look. He smirked as his eyes found mine and then pulled his shirt to reveal the mark again.I rolled my eyes before closing them and blocking everything and everyone around me out. I envisioned my army of wolves, the symbol of my Alpha power and the reason I would never bow to anyone. I pulled the energy from that power and pulled it in tight. The tension alone was enough to make me feel like I was going to burst. I opened my eyes, knowing that right now they shone g
(Kaeleigh’s POV)Three hours later, a now mobile and newly sealed Cade was sitting on the sofa in the living room with Zoey on his knee and I was inspecting Tatum’s wrist. She and Jensen had emerged from his room a few minutes before and Tatum was jumping around excitedly. They had completed the bond last night and through the night Tatum had completed the transition into a Hybrid, much in the same way as Chase had with me. I looked at the pattern that had formed on her wrist and saw it was an extension of Jensen’s pattern. I smiled. I still didn’t know how everything worked, but I was loving finding out.“Oh, and watch,” Tatum said, suddenly very excited. She turned and looked around and then focused on a dying houseplant that a scowling Luke was standing by. She walked over and placed her hand on the soil and, slowly
