Chapter 150- Stay

Rhye had been looking for the witch for days. He had her right under his nose and let her slip through his fingers. That won’t be happening again. His gaze roamed down her body, and he grunted. Taking his suit jacket off, he draped it over her shoulders and buttoned it up. He brushed her soft cheeks with the back of my hand. "I burned the sounds of your screams of pleasure like a brand in my memory. Rhye shrugged, pretending it was her decision while knowing full well he'd have to kill every fae who dared to attack her again, but her... He might as well throw her over his shoulder and bind her up if she complained. And right now, he couldn't let her go. She needed to stay with him and he might be as selfish as Dimitri, but he would risk his life again. He would do everything to let her stay. They didn’t know she would be ambushed by some low-life fae. Had he known, he wouldn’t have let her walk out then. Fuck, he probably wouldn’t have fucked her. He would have taken her that night

Chapter 151- Shower

With a resigned sigh, he flipped the lights off, casting them in darkness as she opened the door. The light breeze filtered past them, and she instantly missed the strength of Rhye’s scent as they stepped into the cool night. The encroaching autumn air stole some of her warmth until Rhye brushed against her as he exited the gym, standing close, guarding her while she was locked up.Like a true gentleman, he walked her to her car, the soft thud of their footsteps the only sound between them. Every step felt like a decision she had to consciously make over and over again, one that would take her away from Rhye.Livia knew what she had to do, and knew she was making the right choice, but it didn’t make it any easier. As much as she needed the downtime to process everything on her own, she hated to leave him.How is it possible to care so much so quickly? She didn’t know, and a part of her didn’t want to question it.The fact was, she did care about Rhye, about Joseph, and, hell, even abo

Chapter 152- Shadow Jump

Rhye’s thumbs fumbled over the ridiculously tiny phone in his hands the next day. In many years of this never-ending hunting of witches and demons, he still wasn’t used to the technology they used. It was the largest one on the market, and it was still too damn small. Spellcheck fixed the numerous errors where his large fingers pressed the wrong key, or worse, multiple keys, while he sent a quick text to Joseph, demanding an update on the search for the Fae.With dawn on the horizon, it was his brother’s turn to tail Livia, but watching her taillights disappear sat like a lead weight in his stomach. He didn’t want her out of his sight. The woman never listened to him, and he just wished she would. Livia insisted on going back to the gym and to her own lair to investigate, and he couldn't do anything about it but tail her.For a Fae from the nearby region, that was disconcerting on many levels. The Fae were known for being exceptional fighters. They were cunning and brave, strong and s

Chapter 153- Doubt

Livia had a startling sense of déjà vu when she pulled into her driveway. Right away, her hackles rose, and the tiny, fine hairs on the back of her neck stood on end.Someone had been there. She couldn’t see anything amiss, had no proof, other than the tingling awareness and the intuition she trusted above all else. But, those were enough. They had never steered her wrong before, and she wasn’t about to start doubting herself now.She unfurled her power and let it unfurl outward, sending tiny tendrils in every direction to search out the threat.Nothing.The only thing she sensed was the lingering feeling of something... bitter. She could almost taste it, almost smell it. It was acrid, like rotting lemons, and repulsive, akin to spoiled garbage with an undertone of wet dog.The moon waned as the first rays of sunlight crept into the twilight sky, slowly and purposefully, like she crept her SUV up the d

Chapter 154- Hell

Though Livia couldn't see the threat through the shadows, her intuition flared as the sinister sensation she’d been feeling increased tenfold. Realizing whoever was out there knew she’d spotted them, and enjoyed the hunt, she narrowed her gaze and aimed her gun low. As if the game had officially begun, the fucker took off through the trees, heading straight for her. She waited for a good shot, then fired twice. The low, masculine grunt of pain told her her aim was true, but it didn’t stop or even slow them down. Before she could fire again, the faint sound of a shot rang out, echoing through the trees a moment before she felt a sharp prick in her neck like she’d just been stung by the world’s biggest fucking wasp. Re-aiming before the pain had even fully registered, Livia pulled the trigger in quick succession. She got off two more shots on pure instinct before she removed a hand from the gun and reached for her neck. Her fingers grazed the feathered end of a dart. Oh, shit! A mot

Chapter 155- Livia

A wave of dizziness had her swaying the moment she was upright and almost sent her falling back to the mattress. Livia sucked in a deep breath and shook her head, blinking hard until the blackness crowding in on the edges of her vision receded slightly. As quietly as possible, she crept to the open door and pressed her shoulder to the jam. A quick peek showed a wide, thankfully empty, hallway. Hearing what sounded like the faint clatter of pans coming from the right, she turned in that direction. As she slowly tiptoed along, she catalogued what she could of the place, looking for an escape, even as she got closer to the source of the noise. Beautiful hardwood floors polished to a high shine, ceilings at least fourteen feet high, and the glimpse she could see at the end of the hall of an open space told her she was likely in some kind of retrofitted warehouse loft. That meant she was probably in one of the many warehouse districts, which also meant, if she could get out of there, s

Chapter 156- Cheerfully

Coughing to try and cover her snicker, Livia murmured, “Don’t take it too hard. Assholes don't like anyone. Not even me.”Rhye dipped his chin in affirmation, like that made him feel better, punctuating a wink with a smirk. “See? Definitely not a pancake lover.”That surprised a chuckle out of her. Rhye grinned with her, looking delighted, his eyes sparkling.“I filled up his food and water dishes before we left.”“Thank you,” she murmured, then frowned at herself. No thanking your kidnapper. Jesus, I really am losing my mind. She still didn’t understand what the hell was going on here. Had he abducted her to… woo her? That didn’t actually seem that far-fetched for him. He hadn’t made any move to hurt her, and hadn’t threatened her in any way. Instead, he’d cooked her breakfast, fed her cat, and packed her an overnight bag like this was a sleepover.Cheerfully lying to herself that the feeling in her stomach was disconcertment, and most definitely not butterflies—because who the fuck

Chapter 157- Joseph

After a long moment, Livia let out a sigh. Rhye could hear the longing in her breath, could almost feel the weight of being alone pressing down on her shoulders. Her expression cleared faster than he expected.Rhye wanted to cheer but contained it, in case it startled Livia and she changed her mind about trusting him."I don’t know why." She turned back to the bookcase, staring blindly at the spines. "I don’t know why any of this is happening."That last was said softly to herself, but he heard."Any of this," he repeated, taking another step closer, but only one. She still felt like a wild animal, skittish and wary. "What else has been happening?"Livia glanced at him with a hint of fear in her eyes, then walked to the couch, curling herself into the corner, intentionally positioned so she could see the door.Looking at her made his chest hurt. She looked so fucking tiny there, so small and vulnerable he almost couldn’t st

Chapter 158- Like a sister

With speed and precision of his own, Joseph reached up and slammed his hands together, snatching the knife out of thin air just as it sliced into his lower lip, damn near cutting it in half. The tang of blood burst over his tongue and immediately began to pour over his beard. His palms stung just slightly from the cuts now marring his skin, but the brief pain did nothing to stop the arch of a brow or the corner of his lip from tugging up in a crooked smile. “Well done, little witch,” Joseph praised. Rhye’s confused gaze shot to him upon hearing the endearment. Joseph ignored him, entirely focused on the shock filtering across Livia’s beautiful face at the realization of what she’d done. And who she’d done it to. “Oh my god, Joseph!” Livia gasped, her eyes widening now that she registered who had walked through the door. “I- I didn’t mean to do that.” “Of course you did,” Rhye replied happily, just as impressed as he was. His brother’s eyes glittered with amusement, taking in the b

Chapter 159- Such a tease

Livia sighed as she returned to him, dropping her haul on the table with a crease between her furrowed brows."This was all I could find. I can’t believe you don’t have a first-aid kit," she scolded, waving toward the meager supplies she’d pulled together. Her concern for his brother warmed Rhye, even while his cock hardened further from the fresh wave of her scent that followed when she brushed closer. The reminder of how good she’d felt against him when they’d danced, of how incredibly sexy she’d sounded as he’d muffled her cries of ecstasy when she’d come for him, only increased the uncomfortable tightness in his pants. This isn’t the time to get turned on. He thought to himself.Too bad Rhye's better sense fled the room. He was pretty sure Joseph would tease him later. After all, the man had been raising his brows at them as if they were obscure paintings that needed to be understood by some talented artist. Because Livia was still here in their loft, it only meant one thing."Sor
