With speed and precision of his own, Joseph reached up and slammed his hands together, snatching the knife out of thin air just as it sliced into his lower lip, damn near cutting it in half.

The tang of blood burst over his tongue and immediately began to pour over his beard. His palms stung just slightly from the cuts now marring his skin, but the brief pain did nothing to stop the arch of a brow or the corner of his lip from tugging up in a crooked smile.

“Well done, little witch,” Joseph praised.

Rhye’s confused gaze shot to him upon hearing the endearment. Joseph ignored him, entirely focused on the shock filtering across Livia’s beautiful face at the realization of what she’d done. And who she’d done it to.

“Oh my god, Joseph!” Livia gasped, her eyes widening now that she registered who had walked through the door. “I- I didn’t mean to do that.”

“Of course you did,” Rhye replied happily, just as impressed as he was. His brother’s eyes glittered with amusement, taking in the b

Livia sighed as she returned to him, dropping her haul on the table with a crease between her furrowed brows."This was all I could find. I can’t believe you don’t have a first-aid kit," she scolded, waving toward the meager supplies she’d pulled together. Her concern for his brother warmed Rhye, even while his cock hardened further from the fresh wave of her scent that followed when she brushed closer. The reminder of how good she’d felt against him when they’d danced, of how incredibly sexy she’d sounded as he’d muffled her cries of ecstasy when she’d come for him, only increased the uncomfortable tightness in his pants. This isn’t the time to get turned on. He thought to himself.Too bad Rhye's better sense fled the room. He was pretty sure Joseph would tease him later. After all, the man had been raising his brows at them as if they were obscure paintings that needed to be understood by some talented artist. Because Livia was still here in their loft, it only meant one thing."Sor

Keeping Livia safe was Rhye’s number-one priority, and that included finding a way to convince his brother and Leon that the witch wasn’t a spy for the council or in any way working for Dimitri. Then, he needed to sway them to allow her to stay. The connection in Rhye’s chest pulsed, almost as if in solidarity with his plan. More and more, he was convinced she was his mate, though he reminded himself, uselessly, that he needed to proceed with caution. After all, this so-called covert mission meant that eventually, they needed to go back to the pack and resume their life. First, they needed more information about the demons and, above all, Francisco’s plan. His connection with the witches and faes. But Livia was more important to him, and it was simply one more reason to keep her close. He wanted time with her to figure it all out. Who she was, from what coven she came from.Speaking of..."Why are you here in our territory, Livia?" Rhye asked, unable to contain his curiosity any longe

Yet, Leon turned back to the door and frowned. Having heard enough, he released his power and entered the room, immediately zeroing in on the witch. He caught Alpha Rhye’s knowing look from the corner of his eye, telling him he’d known Leon was listening in, but that wasn’t what held his attention.Livia whipped around faster than he anticipated, a blade in one hand, her other pressed against Rhye’s chest as though to hold him back.Or protect him.Leon quickly dismissed the thought, forcefully reminding himself that the woman was a spy. He couldn’t trust her words or actions. Everything she said and did would be tailored to lure them in.Scanning the two of them, Leon cocked a brow. Despite the abundant seating options available to them, they were piled on the couch, seated as close to her as he suspected she would allow.Rhye was sitting sideways, watching her instead of the movie that had just ended. Something told him it wasn't a recent repositioning, that his guard had been like

  • Taming Alpha Rhye   Chapter 162- Retrace

It had been hours since Rhye dropped Livia off at her place, and now that the alpha had finally left her, she was able to retrace her hunting grounds and look for the Fae who wanted her dead. Now,She walked among them undetected, just another afternoon rush-hour commuter trudging through the fresh snowfall on her way to the train station. No one paid any mind at all to the petite female in the hooded oversized parka, her scarf concealing her face to just below her eyes, which watched the crowds of human pedestrians with keen interest. She knew it, but she couldn’t help it.She was anxious about being out among them and impatient to find her prey. The pound of rock music blaring in through the tiny earbuds of a portable MP3 player rang in her head.Livia crossed at a traffic light and moved up the road toward the station. She could see people talking as she passed them, their lips moving silently, their words—more important, their thoughts—disappearing by the aggressive lyrics, scream

‘Most of the cargo got hit with a big snowstorm last night, so a lot of today’s shipments have been delayed—’‘This shit’s supposed to be guaranteed,’ the Fae snarled.‘Yeah, it is. You can get your money back, but you have to fill out a claim—’‘Fuck the claim, you moron! I need that package. Now!’My Master will have my ass if I don’t turn up with this delivery, and if my ass goes in a sling, I’m going to come back here and rip your goddamn lungs out.Livia drew in her breath at the virulence of the unspoken threat. She knew the Faes lived only to serve the one who made them, but it was always a shock to hear the terrible depth of their allegiance. Nothing was sacred to their kind. Lives meant nothing, be they human or supernatural. Faes was nearly as awful as the Rogues, the bloodthirsty, criminal faction of the demon nation. The Fae leaned over the counter, fists braced on either side of him. ‘I need that package, asshole. I’m not leaving without it.’The clerk backed away, his ex

  • Taming Alpha Rhye   Chapter 164- Finding Jessa

With trembling fingers, Livia retrieved the cell phone from where it lay at her feet and slipped it into her pocket. The slaying had drained her, the combined physical and psychic exertion almost too much to bear. Each time seemed to weigh more heavily on her, taking longer for her to recover. She wondered if the day would come that she might slide so deep into the abyss that she’d not rebound at all. Probably, she guessed, but not today. And she would keep fighting so long as she had breath in her body and the pain of loss in her heart.‘For Francisco,’ she whispered, staring down at the dead Fae as she clicked on the MP3 player in preparation of her return home. Music blared from the tiny earbuds, muting the gift that gave her the power to hear the darkest secrets of a human’s soul. She’d heard enough for now.

  • Taming Alpha Rhye   Chapter 165- Still Finding Jessa

Rhye was on him at once. He threw the Rogue off the woman, driving the snarling demon into the side of the brick building and holding it there with his forearm wedged under the suckhead’s chin. “Get out of here!” he shouted to the human as she started to drag herself up off the ground. “Run!” She flung a frightened look over her shoulder – the first glimpse Rhye got of her face. His gaze locked on to a pair of huge, pale lavender eyes. The woman stared at him from over the top of a dark knit scarf that could hardly disguise the delicate beauty beneath it. Holy shit. He knew her. Jessa! And she wasn’t just a random human female; she was a warrior. A shewolf. A young widow from one of the nearby pack sanctuaries in the city. Rhye didn’t know her well. He hadn’t seen her for several months, not since the night he’d taken her home from the pack’s compound. It was the last he had seen of her, but it hadn’t been the last time he’d thought about her. What the hell was she doing here?

  • Taming Alpha Rhye   Chapter 166- Livia's apartment

Rhye wiped his bloodied blade on the dead Rogue's jacket and idly observed the swift disintegration of the last body in the alley. The postmortem cleanup was courtesy of Rhye's titanium weapons, a metal that acted as poisonous acid to the diseased cellular makeup of Rogue. The three bodies dissolved in the snow, reducing flesh, bone, and clothing to nothing but dark spots of ash against the pristine white.Rhye blew out a curse, his senses still quivering with the heat of combat. Battle-sharpened eyes lit on the sword Jessa had lost in her struggle with the rogue who’d attacked her. He walked over and retrieved the weapon. "Bloody hell," he muttered, picking the blade up from the snow. It wasn’t some dainty dagger a lady might carry for protection, but a serious-looking bit of hardware. Seven inches long, serrated near the upward jut of the tip, and, unless he missed his guess, the metal was not your basic carbide steel but Rogue-eating titanium.Which begged the question once more: w

Shock at what she’d done had barely begun to flicker through her mind when she felt something heavy and oppressive build within her. A sudden, sharp pain in her chest had her crying out as something foreign inside her pulled tight, stretching like a rubber band. Oh, god, it hurts. It felt like every atom of her being was being simultaneously crushed and pulled to its breaking point. The foreign sensation grew stronger and heavier until it felt like she was being ripped apart. The agony was unreal. She tried to scream her pain, but her chest was caving in, and she couldn’t breathe. It was gathering her power. She could feel it, like a thorned vine, latching onto the tendrils; she could feel it squeezing them, choking them. With a violent, agonising wrench, it yanked her power back into her, the cold, burning pain of it tearing a ragged shriek from her throat. Like a hand swatting a fly, the whiplash of it folded her body in half and sent her hurtling toward the floor. Strong arms

Thighs clenching at the feel of it, so erotically foreign, yet so right, she writhed between kisses and moaned. In response, Rhye coils his tail around her leg, guiding her to widen her stance. He slipped a thigh between her legs at the same moment he cupped her breasts, as he sucked her earlobe into his mouth. Moaning in delight... "Oh, God..." Livia growled. The multitude of sensations had her crying out into Rhye’s mouth. Pressing her breasts into his hands, she ground down against his thigh, needing the pressure where she was so wet and swollen for him.Like an extra set of arms, she felt him wrap his majestic tail around her, enclosing her in a cocoon of warmth, safety, and need. Even with her eyes closed, she knew he didn’t surround her completely. She didn’t have to wonder why. The knowledge that he’d left a gap so she could breathe and her inner demon could watch unimpeded had a new rush of wetness slicking her core. It was like she had been transported to a different dimensio

That was enough to snap her out of the trance.Unsure if she was more freaked out about being hypnotized by a fucking tail, or charmed that it seemed to like her, she pet it in return, carefully stroking a fingertip lightly over the spade tip.If it were possible, her eyes would have widened even more at the shiver working through Rhye.Did he like that?Oh, how she wanted to play and find out.Soon, it retreated, and Livia marvelled at all three men as she really, truly realised that they weren’t humans. They were predators and, unlike humans, had the features necessary to both lure in prey and kill it. Joseph’s eyes, Rhye’s tail—they were all mesmerising."Like cuttlefish," she muttered under her breath.Rhye zeroed in on her and cocked his head. "What’s that?""Oh, nothing." Peering up at Rhye, she prompted, "You wanted to ask something earlier?"The alpha gave her a look that said he knew she was intentionally redirecting the conversation but that he was going with it. "How did it

The words escaped without thought, but she didn’t have the mental capacity to regret them, even when the room was suddenly full of low, masculine laughter."Does that mean you think I’m pretty, too?" Leon rumbled, his eyes, now a vivid purple, sparkling—literally sparkling—as though they were dotted with a thousand tiny stars. His voice had already been deep, but now it was even more so. The gravelly, bass sound vibrated through her like distant thunder but was also creepy at the same time, but Livia didn't show how scared she was of the two-headed wolf. There was something about Leon's wolf that made her shiver with fear. He was something else. There was darkness in him, and she could see it. Livia paused, seeing a vision of Leon killing Joseph in the subway, while Rhye was unconscious on his side. Livia gasped; anger settled over her, and rage throbbed in her like a heartbeat. Leon creeped into Joseph... He would kill him. Livia could feel it... She didn't have a choice but to use h

Livia frowned. She picked up on that apparently being a bad thing easily enough, but why he thought she would care was beyond her. When she voiced as much, he just blinked at her like she’d stunned him speechless; at first, she was sure.Peering between the two of them, she took in the tense set of their shoulders and the tightness in their expressions that lingered, despite her assurance that she didn’t care about their lack of purity.Deciding to fix the problem she’d inadvertently caused, Livia smiled softly at them. "I don’t care if you’re pure or as mixed as milk and coffee, but I’ve obviously stepped on a sore point, so I rescind my invitation." Hoping to lighten the mood, she ended with a haughty sniff and an imperious wave of her hand.Joseph’s eyes narrowed to suspicious slits. "Well! Now that you don’t want to see, I want to show you. What is this witchery?"Leon made a low sound and nodded, mimicking Joseph’s suspicious expression, though his grey eyes were dancing with amu

Speechless, Livia gaped at the beautiful monster before her. Drawn like a moth to a flame, she took a step closer, wanting, needing to see him, to touch him. She managed a single step before Rhye cursed, eyes wide and dark brows furrowed, as he stared down at himself."How the fuck did you do that?" he demanded, pinning her with a stunned look.God, but his eyes were unreal. Vibrant, ocean deep blue with a sunburst of bright green around the pupils. They were the eyes of a predator. Eyes of a pureblood alpha. She wanted to get lost in them, wanted to stare into them until she’d mapped every facet."I have no idea," she admitted with a slow shake of her head. At the disbelieving expression he gave her, she tried to think past the shock of seeing him and explained, "The heat of your power was starting to get painful, and then, all of a sudden, it felt like mine got pissed off and threw yours back at you.""You shouldn’t be capable of that," Rhye muttered, but it was said almost absently

  • Taming Alpha Rhye   Chapter 197- Her true power

The memory of the creepy, child-looking demon and the sensation of it sucking the power out of her, remembering how weak she’d felt afterward, sent a shiver down her spine and hardened her resolve. All her martial arts and self-defense training had been useless against the thrall it had used on her. She’d spent too long and worked too hard to not be a victim to give up on this now. Rhye smirked at her for the second time that day, setting a new record. His eyes shone with approval at the resolve in hers. “I can force your power out of you. If you’ll allow me to try,” he tacked on at the end. Livia appreciated the effort he was making to be more polite, now he knew she wasn’t a spy sent to surveil them. She just wasn’t sure how to react to this new Rhye. He’d gone from cold and dangerous to interested and almost nice. Almost. It was a jarring change. Seductive, dangerously enticing, and intriguing as hell, but still jarring. Livia glanced at them, gauging their reactions to his of

Cocking her head, Livia frowned at him. "I don’t understand." Her eyes went wide as it hit her. "Oh my god, I get it. So, if they make vampires popular in movies and books, demons will become stronger because more humans are glorifying them. Same for witches and werewolves and everything else, yes?""Exactly.""Holy shit. I wonder how much I affected them in my Twilight phase as a kid."Joseph growled, "Those fucking movies! The "vampire" and "werewolf" demons were out of control. The "underworld demons" were pissed. They’d been top dogs for most of what"—he glanced at Leon—"like the last thousand years?""Mm, thereabouts, yes.""Wait. Did I hear you say ‘top dogs’?" she asked, ignoring the twilight thing in favor of something more important."Yes, but now anymore," Leon nodded.“Spiteful little fuckers, really. And always hungry!” Joseph pointed to a few thin white scars crisscrossing the back of his hand, scars she’d somehow never noticed before. “They like people meat, and they are

"As Joseph said, it’s not exclusively a torture chamber, and it’s not used as such all that often. Only when we’re left with no other recourse," Rhye soothed with a small smile. Her gentle giant, the man who touched her with such tenderness and care, was talking about torturing people with about the same amount of contrition as confessing he didn’t always take the time to recycle. That wasn’t actually what shocked her, though. She knew they were on the dark grey side of the morality scale. When she continued to frown at him, he lifted a hand and cupped her cheek, looking suddenly unsure. "Does that bother you, Livia? Would it help to know we don’t hurt the innocent?"Rhye was very still at her back, she noticed. He hadn’t pulled away from her physically, but she could sense him closing off, could almost feel him pulling the cold, unfeeling mask back into place.Joseph, who’d strolled farther into the room, snorted. "Of course she knows that!" He stopped walking when she didn’t immedia
