The Take Down

Alfred tromped along the banks. This was a typical evening along the small river. At one point, he wondered if he should have said something about the mud. But when he thought about it, what would a wolf do about muddy paws? The witches with them knew all about this region and why they kept it like this. The river ran parallel to an old graveyard. It’s age and occupants made it powerful for the witches. Ancestors and all that. The mud appeared to contain the graveyard dirt. Don’t get him wrong, the graveyard was still used so there was no worry about it disappearing from erosion. Alfred walked through. There’s been enough people through here that he could follow the trail even in the dark of night. Oh, he wasn’t a fool. He brought a light with him. A secret most humans didn’t know is that supernatural creatures long ago learned green or coloured light was better at night than white light because it affected nightlight less and there were too many supernatural friends

Veronica Captured

The members of her ex-coven pulled along Veronica. She hated this, it wasn’t fair. That was her golem back there they were destroying. These people should be dead or scrambling to save their friends and building, not making her life worse. Why did everything fall apart like this? Bethany, the jealous witch, must have cursed her. Veronica was sure of it. Bethany was weak and would do anything to keep her place within the coven. That included cursing people and being a ‘yes’ man to the high priest. Clarence was correct in that these people were evil and controlling fools who needed to be brought down a peg or two. No one said anything, and Veronica couldn’t say a word. But she resisted every chance she got. It was her petty vindictiveness surfacing. She didn’t care. These people deserved to be as miserable as she was, for what they’d done. It took forever to get back to the coven house and then she was dragged to a place where she’d never been. Nor would she h

Home for the Reunion

It took most of the evening to hide the evidence and the wolves felt it was as much their problem as it was for the coven. As a group effort, they covered up the shattered bits of golem. Brian found out that the coven possessed a dungeon of sorts for the few they allowed within their group, who disappointed them by attacking others or other illegal activities. With dawn approaching, they went home with only one injured wolf. The injury occurred on the walk back to the coven house. The wolf slid on the muddy bank and twisted their leg when they landed awkwardly in the water. It slowed them down some, but their territory was now insight and all Brian wanted was to see Helena and get reunited with her. He was sure Chris felt the same. It felt like forever since he’d been with her. In his mind, he wouldn’t be whole until they were all comfortable with no fear of anything happening to them or their pack. They needed time to decompress and get reacquainte

Well He’s Not so Bad

Jillian watched her mate enter the packhouse from an upstairs window in the apartment they shared. This apartment was theirs because she’d worked closely with Helena on so many things it made sense to be close. Now she somehow ended up mated to the fifth most powerful wolf in the pack. She couldn’t complain about that. He wasn’t a beta, but she wasn’t expected to mate with anyone special. Heck, a few weeks ago, she’d planned to never mate in this lifetime. Thank heavens Davis was back. They’d get some sleep and this afternoon her sister and mother would be here. So many people over the years tried to make her feel guilty, but if she never saw those two again, she’d not worry about it. All she prayed for was that neither of them made a fool of themselves fawning and flirting with Davis. If someone thought that wouldn’t happen. Jillian needed only to remember her high school prom date took her to the prom and then disappeared with her sister for the rest of th

Sister Comes to Stay

Jillian watched a vehicle pull up to the packhouse. There they were. Her mother and sister. She couldn’t help but frown. They loaded the vehicle to the brim. Yes, they packed heavy whenever they travelled, but this. This was a whole new level of luggage. Were they moving back here? Gods, they would turn her life upside down, if that’s the case. When three people left the vehicle, she could see there was one man. Gods, one of them was still shacked up with someone, and they dragged him along for good measure. Probably to shove it in her face, but Jillian was with Davis permanently and nothing would change that. “They’re here and they brought some guy with them. Are you ready to meet them? I’m sorry in advance if they say or do something that makes you uncomfortable. It’s the way they control the surrounding situation. If you feel it’s too much, just tell them so, and we’ll deal with the fallout later.” “Calm yourself, love. They will learn quickly that they

Life Returns to Almost Normal

Helena woke late in the afternoon, hungry. However, her mood was lighter when she felt Brian and Chris on either side of her. Things were ending. Life would become more settled and quiet. Not like it was. Not her father wasn’t there, along with several others. They were wolves and yes, this was an extreme event that would go down in the secret history of their kind. No one could compare them to humans, after all, they carried the animal nature of a wild beast. Violence was commonplace, an unspoken possibility if she admitted the truth to herself. Helena slid from the bed. It wasn’t difficult with how heavily Brian and Chris slept. If they existed as wolves in the wild, their life expectancy would have been short. But they were shifters inside their own territory after dealing with what endangered it and their pack. She still didn’t understand why her father went to such extremes in trying to choose between them when she had both. Helena was sure since she fo

Veronica’s Just Deserts

Veronica didn’t know how long she’d been there. The light turned off and on several times. She could have been there for hours or days. She didn’t know. Finally, someone gave her food. Once she ate, it didn’t take long for a small group of people to come along and haul her out of the prison, she found herself in. She was prepared to celebrate her freedom until she found herself locked in a chair in another dark room. Veronica could hear the movement of people in robes on the edges of the large empty room. She wasn’t sure what to expect from these people. Veronica schooled herself not to give into the fear. She couldn’t quite achieve that, so she sat there attempting not to admit to anything incriminating or to give up on her very life. Finally, the lights came up enough within the room, that left little to the imagination of what they used this room for. It was a courtroom, and she was on trial. They dared to force their views and rules on her. That, alone burst her

Coven Details

Alfred walked from the room they used for their courts and formal audiences. It wasn’t used much these days, but it was never pleasant. The council agreed to punish Veronica with imprisonment and being stripped of her abilities. Not a simple thing to do. She’d never live a normal life if she finished her imprisonment. Veronica would have to stay hidden from the mortal world because of the knowledge she could spread. Basically, she’d just trade one prison for another and the identity she knew once would always be a faint memory. In the old day, they’d have just killed her, and Alfred believed that was a far more merciful thing to do. None of this gives her hope and then lets someone else deal with the fallout. Though he could wash his hands of her. She’d go with the elders of the council back to their homeland, which was secreted away. That’s where the sentence would occur. Their coven didn’t have the resources or place to keep her during her punishment. This was the end of th

Opening the Alpha’s Apartments

“If we are going to return to some form of normal, we need to finish preparing the Alpha apartments for us. You know. Get all our ducks in a row.” Chris mentioned as they ate breakfast in their apartment. This was the first day of the rest of their lives together in his estimation, and he was becoming impatient at how must mess it left and the sheer number of strings that weren’t tied down. This wasn’t something he wanted to have happened again. “As long as those ducks don’t turn into raccoons or squirrels, I’ll be happy. I thought we setup for them to be renovated by now?” Helena pushed her plate away from her. How this would play out, she didn’t know, but she had to get it going or she’d get bogged down in her grief. “We did, but half of the work crew was called up to hunt. Which put the schedule back and I’ve not been given a revised schedule.” Brian added, and he clearly felt horrible about that. They didn’t need so many people to hunt down the golem or

Accepting isn’t Always the Worst

Jillian watched Davis make sure that her sister and mother, with her mother’s latest side piece, were settled in their cabin. Gods, the guy wasn’t much older than her sister. He’d be better suited to her sister. What did these men see in her mother? She had two adult daughters. She didn’t care if her mother found someone. Actually, Jillian would love her mother to find someone she had something in common with. This guy wouldn’t be able to keep up with her in a conversation and she wouldn’t be able to keep up with him in pretty much any physical activity. Jillian could see this becoming another crash and burn. She bet he’d not met his fated mate and when he did, he’d have a devil of a time removing her clinging mother from him. Or Jillian would have to deal with the high drama. At least, right now, Davis showed no interest in her sister’s advances. He’d spoken to her once already, and her sister acted like he must be mistaken. Now Jillian wasn’t sure if she m
