Chapter forty-one

Amber’s pov Ronin and I sat next to the glass and started to talk. "I am a dark wolf. I can absorb the darkness and hide myself everywhere. I can use the darkness to heal myself. And I can hide my scent. That’s about it," Ronin told me. I explained my wolf and my abilities, but not sharing the full extend just in case someone was listening in. "I am sorry it’s so dark in here most of the time, that’s for my benefit. I need a lot of darkness, especially if my powers are muted by wolfsbane. The masked guys hate me, so they leave the door open when Doctor Parker is away so I will heal less quickly. I may have tried to attack them a few times," Ronin said jokingly. "They have my son and friend, otherwise I would have tried something myself. I am waiting for the right time. Are there any other wolves here?" I asked. "Once doctor Parker is done with testing there is a match done between the remaining wolves. Whoever wins gets transferred to another place. I’ve only done one match, bu

Chapter forty-two

Axel’s pov I was feeling much better after having slept a while and we headed to Lenore’s house. Alpha Finnegan was waiting for me near the house, he showed me where most of the boobytraps had been. He walked me through her house and into the basement. She had used the basement as head of operations it seemed, there was a big table, lots of filling cabinets and a map of the area with pins located in various places. One was stuck in the Crimson Moon pack. "This is what I wanted to show you," Alpha Finnegan said while handing me a red folder. Inside was information on several different kind of wolves, with pictures and locations. On each picture there was writing, some said ‘CAPTURED’ or ‘MONITORED and some said ‘DEAD’. There were pictures of Elias and Amber as well, with their known abilities and location. They knew a lot about Amber, more than just anyone could know. They knew her schedule down to a teeth and even her likes and dislikes. The same with Elias, his favorite color and

Chapter forty-three

Axel’s pov The next day I headed out to Lenore’s house. Perhaps Alpha Finnegan and his men had missed something. When I arrived the house was guarded by two men. They tried to stop me from entering, but I used the Alpha Command on them. Why would to keep me out of the house? It was my mother’s house for crying out loud, I didn’t need Alpha Finnegan’s permission just to look around. The last time I was here I went straight to the basement, not paying attention to the rest of the house. But this time when I entered the house I took a good look around. It was a cozy home, with paintings on the wall. The living room was painted a light purple and there were pillows all over the sofa. There was a big book case with loads of books, but none were books on special wolves. No photo’s throughout the house, none of me or my father. It was kind of strange that nobody searched this part of the house, as if they already knew where to look. And how come Finnegan’s men found all the boobytraps stra

Axel’s pov The next day I got a call from Alpha Finnegan. He knew that an attack from my pack would cause us both many casualties and that I had a much larger pack than his. "Perhaps we can negotiate," Alpha Finnegan said. "The only deal I will accept, is that you hand over my mate, my son and anyone else who is captured and deliver me Lenore." Alpha Finnegan replied, "I can’t do that. Lenore has offered my pack immunity when she has control over all the werewolves. She will never hand the True King over. I might be able to arrange visitation or the release of your mate. That bomb in her restaurant was meant to kill you, her own son. Lenore is not one to show mercy, but I might be able to persuade her." I didn’t trust Finnegan at all and I would never give up my son so easily. "You’d have to do better than that. We have the numbers to beat you, nothing will get in my way of finding my family."I growled at him. Alpha Finnegan started to laugh, "you might have the numbers, but Len

Amber’s pov When Ronin came back to his cell he was looking a lot worse than before. His healing powers were hard at work, but it looked like Doctor Parker had punished Ronin for his misbehavior. They placed Ronin in his bed, he couldn’t move yet. So I had to wait to talk to him. I laid down in bed as well, resting my eyes a bit. Hoping I wouldn’t sleep to long. I needed to have a talk with Ronin before Doctor Parker got either of us for another test. I woke up hearing Ronin knocking on the glass. I sat next to the glass and told him I succeeded in making more holes for myself. And that I could now hear my wolf again, Ronin was surprised I could actually talk with my wolf, but he listened none the less to what she had told me. "My wolf Ripley wants me to transfer some power to you. If you have enough strength you will be able to hide us both." Ronin looked at me stunned, "does your wolf really think I am that powerful?" I explained that Ripley had lived many lives and this was no

Amber’s pov "My name is Lenore, I’m Axel’s mother," the woman said. I shifted back. "I don’t care who you are, release my son now!" Maria was still on the ground, she was crying. "I’m sorry, I’m so sorry." Lenore kicked Maria against her side, "you should feel sorry, you stupid girl." Then Lenore looked at me. "You know I taught her everything. I had hoped she would be Axel’s mate, but the Beta’s mate was good enough. She was in the perfect position to search for special wolves, while Axel went on his dumb quest to find a mate. But then she had to throw it all away and try to safe you both." I stared at Maria, she had been working for Lenore all this time? Is that why she became my friend in the first place? And what did Lenore mean when she said she tried to safe us? She had been driving the car when we finished dinner, this much I remember. It would have to wait for now, I needed to focus on Elias. He looked at me with tears, almost shocked to see me. "They said you were sic

Chapter forty-seven

Axel’s pov When I woke up I mindlinked my hunters. They had located some bombs around the border of the Sage Mountain pack, but they had found a safe way through for us. They couldn’t predict what we would encounter once we were inside pack border though. I ordered all my to leave the women, elderly and kids alone and only harms those that posed a threat. If I were to gain control of the Sage Mountain pack I needed the members to know I would treat them fairly. Alpha Finnegan had his own hunters and they had already smelled our troops and were ready to battle near the town. I had wanted to avoid casualties and unnecessary damage, but Alpha Finnegan obviously did not feel the same. He had men with snipers on the roofs of buildings and wolves standing in the street, but Alpha Finnegan was nowhere to be found. No self respecting Alpha would let his troops fight, without him. As soon as I saw the men, I shifted, not wanting to waste anymore time in finding Amber, Elias and Maria. I ran

Axel’s pov Logan send some medics inside to check everyone out. Maria was carried out, still bleeding. I felt betrayed by Maria, but I couldn’t imagine how Logan felt. Knowing that your mate lied and went behind your back like that. Normally I would have punished such betrayal right away, but meeting Amber and Elias made me think about finding another way. If Elias was to be The King of all wolves, we would have to show him justice and mercy. We needed to lead by example. Maria had been controlled and manipulated by Lenore and she had tried to save Elias in the end. I would take Maria with us back home and decide there, together with Logan and Amber. Amber had shifted back by now and we kissed each other for the first time in weeks. Kissing in front of Elias was not something he was used to and Elias started to giggle and hide his face. The door opened and Kenzo came in, with Bodhi behind him. Ronin and Bodhi embraced and both started to cry. Kenzo gave Amber and myself something t

Chapter one of 'The True King's Mate'

Elias povEveryone knew I was destined to be the King of all the werewolves. Which meant no one dared to be anything but nice to me, expect my friend Zoey. She had known me ever since she moved here, after her dad was taken by my grandmother. She would always tell me the truth and had no problem giving me a hard time when I deserved it. Today was one of those days. I had been seeing Lisa for a while now, but I had always been clear of my intentions. I did not want a mate, being my mate would be dangerous. Anyone close to me could be used as leverage. My mother was the Luminous Wolf and she could take care of herself, she had been practicing with her friends to find new ways to keep the pack safe. My father was Alpha of the Crimson Moon pack and although he had no special abilities, he was not one to mess with. But having a mate was not something that was in the cards for me. I had my fair share of practice though, being the next True King had it’s perks. But my parents h

Chapter forty-nine

Amber's pov Axel was working late tonight while I was trying to sleep, but I couldn’t stop thinking about my future. I had been a mother since I was still a kid myself. I loved being a mother and seeing my kids grow up. Elias was almost an adult now and little Briana was not so little anymore at twelve years old. I had tried to be the mother I wanted to have, one that was fun, loving and interested. One who raised independent kids that knew their worth, but also knew they could go to their parents for help. Even my wolf's identity was tied to my kids. When Elias would turn 18 my powers would stop. I had no idea what that meant for Ripley. Could I still hear her then and would she be bored being an average wolf? Like I said, I loved being a mom. But often it was all I was. Even my role as Luna sometimes felt like I was the mother of the pack. What would I do if Elias and the pack didn't rely on me for protection? I loved the idea of less stress and responsibility, but I would miss m
