Chapter 121

Abbadon's POV: I lie on my bed, stroking my rock-hard penis. I woke up with her name on my lips and her scent in my nose, and this raging erection I can’t get rid of. It’s because she’s closer to me. I can sense her somewhere nearby. Since I rejected her, she won’t be able to feel our bond, but I can still feel it. It didn’t die for me, and the more time goes by, the stronger it gets. I may have to go back to Greece for a few decades. Or maybe the other side of the world. Australia perhaps. Sighing heavily, I let go of my cock and get up. Maybe the damn erection will go away if I ignore it – although it hasn’t worked so far. The house is too quiet tonight. There are nights I miss having company, and tonight is one of those nights. I need someone, something, anything to distract me. Maya’s face haunts me, and her call is stronger than usual. After trying, and failing, to read I toss the book aside and step into the rainy night. I stand with my face turned up towards the wet skies.

Chapter 122

Edric's POV: The day was an absolute disaster. Maya was out of sorts the whole time, but I wanted to get to know the wolves here a little better and had no better cover than my shopping excuse. I sent Stephen into the city this morning with a shopping list because I knew there was no way we’d get everything we needed in the little village. It started out fine. We found a few pieces of clothing for Deimos, and a handful of maternity outfits for Maya, but while we were having a quick lunch in the only diner in town, it started raining and it did not stop. Within minutes, the whole village was flooded. The Alpha, Owen, ordered their wolves to bring us up to the pack house. The Beta, Neil, was nervous though, and Maya picked up on it right away. She argued with me all the way to the small pack house. I tried to reassure her by telling her that as soon as the rain abated, the roads would clear up, but she was restless and nothing I said or did could calm her. It wasn’t until Beta Neil f

Chapter 123

Abbadon's POV: We touch down on the porch of my house. I direct Edric inside, showing him where he can lay Maya down. She doesn’t even stir, and I made sure she won’t wake for several hours. Edric humiliated himself before me. I know how difficult that was for him, but he did it anyway. For her. Because he loves her. He will do anything for her, even lower himself before a vampire, to keep him safe. I gesture with my head, asking him to join me. He doesn’t say anything, but his eyes tell me that he wanted me gone ten minutes ago. “Relax,” I say. “I’ll be gone in twenty minutes. We need to talk first.” “Maya--” “Will sleep peacefully until sunrise.” “Fine.” “I’m sorry,” I say on my way to the living room. “I don’t have any human food or drink in the house. It’s just me now.” “It doesn’t matter. Say what you want to say Abbadon.” He crosses his arms over his massive chest. He doesn’t know that he can blast me out of this house any time he likes. Doesn’t know the power he has. Ve

Chapter 124

I don’t think. I storm from the house, into the pouring rain, running in what I think is the direction of our palace. Edric comes tearing after me, catching up from behind and grabbing me around the chest, pulling me tightly against his solid body. “Where are you going?” He has to raise his voice to be heard over the rain. “To find my baby.” “Stephen will find him.” “No. I have to get him.” “Maya, stop,” he says sternly. “We can’t leave. There’s no way out. You’ll drown.” “Then I drown!” “And take our other child with you? Is that what you want?” I sweep my wet hair out of my face, giving Edric the deadliest look I can muster. “This is your fault. You told me to leave him behind. If something happens to him, I’ll never forgive you.” I am being unfair. Neither of us could have predicted anything that happened since yesterday, but I’m so afraid and I don’t know what to do with these emotions. “If we didn’t leave him with Marjory, the pack would have taken him and hidden him from

Chapter 125

It just keeps raining and raining and raining. The day drags on, and as the sun starts setting, I get more and more anxious. Pacing through the house, not sure what to do with myself. Twice, I sneak off to the bathroom to express my milk. I don’t want Edric to know, because no matter how angry he is at me, he’ll try to help – and he can’t help me with this. My body is screaming for our baby, and we’re stuck here. As night approaches, I can’t stand it anymore and walk into the living room to talk to Edric. “We can’t stay here.” “Not this again,” he groans. “I mean it,” I say, trying to keep my voice even. “I’m pregnant, and I haven’t eaten since yesterday. I’m genuinely afraid for the baby.” Frowning, he swings his legs off the couch and sits upright. “I know. I’ve considered just going out to hunt, but I don’t exactly know which animals are safe to eat. The unfortunates hunt crocs and certain snakes and rodents – rats, rabbits, mice, that kind of thing…but in this rain--” he shru

Chapter 126

Edric’s POV: I wake with the sun in my eyes, and Maya lodged between me and the backrest of the couch, her tiny frame curled tightly against me. We hadn’t talked about our little spat in the swamp two days ago, and I don’t plan on talking about it now. We are about as far removed from each other as two bonded wolves can be, and it hurts like hell, so I don’t want to make it worse. I wonder if she feels it as deeply as I do. I nudge her. “Maya, wake up.” Her eyes fly open. “What? What’s wrong? Deimos?” “No. It stopped raining.” Gasping and smiling at the same time, she clambers over me and runs for the front door. “Woah, slow your roll there, queen.” “Why? We can go home.” “Do you plan on walking there?” “If I must.” I chuckle softly. “Don’t you think it will be faster if I tell Stephen to come pick us up? We can meet him by the stream.” She sags a little. “Yeah, I guess.” “Gives us some time to, I don’t know, pee, eat, wash…that kind of thing.” “Fine.” She is reluctant to w

Chapter 127

Edric's POV: “King,” Winston says from the doorway of the examination room. “A word?” “Yeah.” Feeling like an old man, I drag myself up and follow him into the room. We brought Maya straight to the clinic. I feel like that first night when I met her – a crazy, irrational, nervous wreck. I stare at her colourless face, her once cherry red lips that are a dull, washed-out pink now. “She was dehydrated,” he says. “Again.” “No,” I shake my head. “No, she couldn’t have been. I made sure she drank enough water.” “How much did she eat?” “Once a day. I know it’s not a lot, but surely it wasn’t so little that it could do this,” I wave my hand in her direction. “No,” he sighs and gives me a look that speaks of regret. “Forgive me, king, but the only other explanation I can think of is….Did you break your bond with her?” “No.” “Please, your majesty, you have to tell me if there’s anything affecting your bond, whatever you tell me will be held in the strictest confidence. The way she’s re

Chapter 128

Edric's POV When I get back to Maya’s hospital room, Cedric’s sitting next to her, talking up a storm, telling her everything Deimos got up to while we were gone. Deimos lies cradled in her limp arm, completely still, like he knows she can’t catch him if he falls. “Anything?” I ask when I walk up to them. “Nothing. What happened to her? Winston won’t tell me.” “I don’t know. She was fine this morning. A little weak, but I thought it was because she didn’t eat properly for a few days. I went to the toilet and when I came back, she was like this. I thought she was asleep.” “I’ve never seen anything like it.” “Neither have I. Doc thinks it’s because our bond has been weakened by the whole Abbadon thing.” Cedric stares at me, a small frown between his eyes. “Stephen thinks so too, but I’m not convinced.” “Then what else can it be?” “I don’t know,” Cedric gets up and stretches. “I wish I did. I hate seeing her like this. Let me know when I have to come get him.” “Sure,” I say dist

Chapter 129

Edric’s POV: “King,” Winston says. “We have to go back in there. Tell her.” “Yes.” Deimos fusses and screeches. He may not be able to tell me what he wants yet, but he’s definitely making sure everyone understand that he’s very upset. “And you want your mom, I know.” I don’t want to go back in there. I know I’m being a coward, but I don’t know how I’m supposed to tell her that she’s not sixteen, and her parents kicked her out of their home almost six years ago, that she’s a mated werewolf with a baby on the way. Where do I even begin? “Don’t worry,” Winston says. “I’ll tell her.” “No. She’s my mate. It’s my responsibility.” Deimos lets out a loud wail and tries to slither out of my arms. “Okay, big guy, let’s go in there and see if she’ll nurse you. Calm down.” I kick the door open and walk in on a very scared Maya. She’s staring down at her chest. Her breasts are leaking, and the front of her gown is soaked. “Are you a nurse or a doctor? What are you?” she asks. “That is a comp

Chapter 130

I should be afraid. Somehow, five, no nearly six, years of my life have been erased from my memory, I woke up in a strange place surrounded by strangers, and I’m not frightened. I’m just amused and curious. At first, I really thought I was hallucinating or something. The doctor did tell me I suffered some kind of head injury, so it made sense, but then the man, Edric, the one that smells so damn good, changed into a werewolf right in front of my eyes, and hallucinations can’t pinch you. Can’t hurt you physically. I keep touching everything, trying to reassure myself that it’s real. I can feel, smell, touch, taste. Those things don’t happen in hallucinations. After a wild fit of hysterical crying, then a spell of maniacal laughter, I quickly accept my reality. There’s no point in dwelling. I’ve always been like this, even when I question everything, I’ve always accepted what I can’t change. ~ Why did you do that? ~ a voice asks in my head. * Do what? * I reply without even thinking
