Chapter Eleven - What just happened?

Caleb  I was enjoying my night with everyone; I really was. But what I wanted more was to get some alone time with Scarlett. Just her and I, no interruptions. I reached into Scarlett, my lips at her ear, and she shivered as soon as she felt my hot breath against her skin. “Do you want to get out of here, you and me? We can go somewhere to talk, go a walk, anywhere you like,” I whispered. She turned to face me, that beautiful smile playing on her lips. “I would love that,” She said, “In one condition, though,” She added. “And that being what?” I asked. “That you promise I get a kiss at the end of the night,” She said, biting her lip as she did. I swallowed hard and nodded my head. I can give her that. I have wanted to kiss those lips s

Chapter Twelve - Not how I wanted this night to end

Scarlett I can’t believe this is happening to me. Why was he there? How did he know where I was? I have so many questions running through my mind right now, but I need to concentrate and just get home. My heart was pounding so hard, and I could feel my chest tightening up because I was breathing so hard, nearly home, though. What is Caleb going to think? What am I going to tell him? I can’t believe I just ran away from him, but I just don’t know how to explain what is happening in my life when I don’t even know what is happening. I can see my garden, not far to go, and I’ll be home safe. Then I hear my phone ping. It’s a text message. Will it be Caleb or PJ; I will check it when I get in. I rush to my front and fumble with my keys; finally, I slam the door behind me and lock it. Breathe, Scarlett, breathe was all I could think. I rest against the d

Chapter Thirteen - I don't get it!

Caleb  It has been a couple of days since the night I kissed Scarlett since the night she ran away from me. I had not heard from her since the text she sent me. I had tried contacting her, but nothing. And I was miserable. I was dreading work today. “Still nothing, buddy?” Nate asked. “No,” I sighed, “I don’t get it. We were getting on great. What can change in a matter of seconds?” I added, running my fingers through my hair. “I don’t know. I am sure there is a valid reason for it. Maybe she is busy with work or something,” He said, trying to make me feel better. “Maybe,” I said, but I had a feeling that was nothing to do with it. “You never know Caleb; she might come and see you at work today,” Nate said with a laugh at the end.

Chapter Fourteen - An unwanted visitor

Scarlett  I'm so glad I came in to see Caleb today, and he was a lot nicer than I expected. If I were him, I wouldn't have given me the time of day after running off. I really should get ready to go home and get ready for the night ahead. I finished my coffee and got my coat on. "Caleb, that's me going to go now," I tell him as I sit down my plate and coffee cup on the counter, "Will I take your jacket with me?" I smiled at him. "Yes, please, that would be great. I will see you soon," He said, flashing that gorgeous smile at me. "I can't wait," I smiled, blowing him a kiss before leaving. I left the coffee shop and then remembered I needed to go to the shop and get some supplies for dinner tonight, so I went into my local shop on the way home and got what I needed. I did even ask him what he liked. I will just get stuff to make a curry. Everyone likes curr

Chapter Fifteen - The perfect night

Caleb I can’t believe how lucky I am getting to spend time with Scarlett, especially after thinking she didn’t want to be around me after the night she ran off. The way she made me feel was strange, especially this quickly.  I am happy we arranged this dinner or who knows when I would see her next in my work for coffee.  “How much rice and curry would you like?” Scarlett asked. “Half and half, please, I will pour us another drink.” I smiled at Scarlett, “That’s us onto the second bottle of wine, and we haven’t even started eating yet,” I added.  I sat down on the couch next to where Scarlett had placed my dinner.  “Cheers,” Scarlet said, “Here’s to a good night,” She added, smirking. “Cheers, Scarlett,” I replied as we clinked gla

Chapter Sixteen - Not easy to resist

Scarlett  Caleb and I were lying on my sofa, watching a movie. My legs were resting over his lap, his fingertips circling on my leg. My attention was not on the film; it was on him. I was fighting against the urge to grab him, pull him over me and just let him take me, but I couldn’t do that, not this soon. I am not that sort of girl, plus I am worried because he was still my “target” at the end of the day, and I don’t know how I am going to deal with that. “Now, who is staring?” He said, turning to face me. “Hmm, I can’t help myself,” I said, “I am trying my best to behave,” I added. He moved, coming to lean over me. “Do we need to behave entirely?” He said with a smirk. “I do try my best to behave, especially on a first date.” I giggl

Chapter Seventeen - Jealously and lies

PJ  I had my eye on Scarlett’s place from the apartment I had rented across from her. She never knew I had rented it. I had been watching her most of the night, waiting for Caleb to leave, but he never left. And the thought of him being in there with her made a fit of anger run through me. She is not meant to be fucking him! That is not part of the plan. She is supposed to make him fall for her, not be screwing him. And I knew personally all it would take is one time with Scarlett, and he will want more. She affects men that way. The rented apartment doesn’t have much in it, but I got some curtains up so I can spy without getting caught. I can’t believe she is letting him sleepover; the anger doesn’t seem to be subsiding. I need to get over to that house, pronto. He needs to leave! It is nearly nine-thirty, and still no movement from the front door. Surely, he needs to leave soon

Chapter Eighteen - A note from a stranger

Caleb  “Well then, Caleb, when did you get home?” Nate asked me as soon as I got into the coffee shop. “Mate, I’ve not even clocked in for my shift yet, and you are questioning me,” I said, laughing as I went to go through the back. “I just want details before the lunchtime rush comes in,” He said, staring at me with raised eyebrows. “I will tell you what I can when I come back through Mr Nosey!” I smiled then went through the door to the backroom. I knew I shouldn’t have told Nate what I was doing yesterday as he would not leave me alone until I gave him details. I could feel myself grinning whilst getting ready to go out to start my shift. I don’t mind talking about Scarlett, though. I go back through and find the coffee shop has got busy in the ten minutes I was through the back.

Chapter Nineteen - Dinner with PJ

Scarlett  I was finishing off getting ready for my dinner with PJ. I was dreading it, but I never had a choice. He is not the kind of man you say no to. I was not getting too dressed up, though, because I had work after, and I didn’t want him thinking I was making a special effort for him. I don’t need to add to his delusions. I felt guilty going out with another man when things were going so well between Caleb and me. I need to do everything I can to get through this night. I was hoping to have called Caleb before my shift, but now I never had time because of PJ. I would need to wait until my break. I still can’t believe he is making me go out for dinner before having a long night at work. I should be sleeping right now instead of getting ready to meet PJ. I’ve only had five hours of sleep because I couldn’t stop thinking about this dinner, so it took me a while to doze of

Chapter Twenty - Has my past caught up?

Caleb I never heard much from Scarlett last night; she only called me once when she got her first break but didn’t stay on the phone for long. She did say she would get in touch when she wakes from her sleep after a night shift. I suppose I will just need to wait until later to speak to her. I may as well get myself showered and a coffee to start a relaxing day off.  The postman has been early today. I don’t usually get post until eleven a.m. I picked up the envelope and headed through to the kitchen to make myself a coffee. I tossed the envelope on the counter, and that’s when I noticed it was handwritten with no stamp. Strange, I don’t usually get hand-delivered mail. I was so carried away thinking about the envelope that I stirred my coffee so much it started to spill. Shit, why is this bothering me so much? I grabbed my coffee and mail and went to the living room to sit down.
