Chapter 1: My birthday

Today is my 20th birthday and I couldn't be more excited, a big milestone for any person’s life. I feel like an adult, even though everyone around me still insists on treating me like a little girl. It doesn't matter, the older I get the more my family is going to have to realize that I am an independent woman and that I deserve freedom. Maybe they need a little push to realize it, which is why I am going to talk to my father tonight to ask him for something I’ve been longing for for a long time: a semester abroad. It has always been my dream to spend a semester in Europe learning about art, my favorite thing in the world, and to enjoy the local cuisine and culture. I’ve never been out of San Francisco in my life, except for a short trip to Mexic

I haven’t tried to speak with him either. I just look at him out of the corner of my eye expecting for him to acknowledge my presence in any way. Whatever he is thinking about, it consumes his whole attention. We take a s

We then go out of my parent’s house, I find that five black SUVs are waiting for us outside.  Each SUV has a driver that awaits by the vehicle for the passengers to go in. Irina, Dimitri’s mother, and Nikolay hop on one of the SUVs. Other guests from the party, who I assume are Dimitri’s relatives because they all look alike, hop on the other three SUVs, leaving the last one for Dimitri and me. “Thank you, Oleg,&rdq

Chapter 5: Newlywed

I squeeze my little black purse anxiously while I follow my husband upstairs to the main bedroom. Once I am in, I look around nervously without actually seeing something in particular, I’m so anxious I’m unable to pay attention to the room or what is in it, I’m even having trouble breathing. Bolt enters right behind us. “Out!” Dimitri yells and I startle. The dog obeys instantly again, leaving us alone in the room. My mouth feels dry and my palms are sweating. “Victoria, do you understand that as my wife you have certain… duties?” Dimitri asks without looking at me. I nod, my eyes fixed to the floor. I’m terrified of what is coming. It’s no

Chapter 6: Trapped inside

As soon as we get into the house I put my back against the nearest wall and as far as possible from Dimitri, he is not even paying attention to me, his eyes are fixed to the living room. “Hello, glad you could make it,” he says to someone I can’t see. I turn my face to the living room. Standing in the middle next to the coffee table is a robust tall woman with brown hair, rosy cheeks, and small round eyes, the woman is looking at us with a earnest expression on her face. “It is my pleasure, Mr. Ivanov,” the woman says with a deep voice. “Victoria, this is Ms. Margaret, she has come to take care of you,” Dimitri says.

Chapter 7: A housewife

After showing me around, Margaret takes me back to our house. Unfortunately, instead of just dropping me off and get going, she comes inside the house with me. “Let’s see what’s in the pantry so we can start making dinner,” she suggests. “Don’t he has people that can cook for us?” I ask folding my arms. I am sure someone as rich a Dimitri has plenty of people to help out with household chores, he can’t expect for me to act like a Stepford Wife.“I’m afraid Dimitri doesn’t like to have strange people in his house, he enjoys his privacy, so you are going to have to handle the house by yourself,” she informs me. “What

Chapter 8: The in-laws

When I open my eyes, it’s already morning. It takes me a few seconds to remember where I am. I sink my head in the pillow before looking up. Dimitri is not on his side of the bed. Suddenly, the bathroom door opens and Dimitri comes out completely naked. I turn my face to the other side, my cheeks are red as tomatoes. Of all the things I thought about how my husband would look like before my wedding, I never expected him to be this fine. I mean, even with his clothes on it’s obvious that he is ripped, but without them, you can really appreciate every muscle and every curve. Not even in my wildest dreams, I thought Dimitri would be so handsome or that he would make me feel this aroused. He starts to get dressed, totally unaware of how I feel. “What time does Margaret said she would get here?” Dimitri asks me as he puts on his shoes.

Chapter 9: Dimitri

(Dimitri  P.O.V.)I take another sip of my vodka, I am aware that it is too early to be drinking, but I really need it. My nerves are killing me, I feel on the edge. This whole situation with my marriage is overwhelming and I have proven to be unable to control it. I still can’t process what happened on our wedding night or, better said, what almost happened, I feel disgusted with myself for the way I acted. What was I thinking? I know the whole point of Victoria being my wife is for us to have children together to straighten our dominion over Javier Solis and his mafia, and at some point, I’m going to have to sleep with her, but I’m not a freaking rapist! Just thinking about it makes my skin crawl. Although it also annoys me how much the memory of that night affects me, I hate that I feel a pang of guilt every tim

Chapter 10: The rules

(Victoria’s P.O.V.)I walk along with Margaret back to my house; although I don’t entirely consider it mine yet. In spite of what Margaret says about me being the lady of the house, I don’t feel that way.  In my mind, I’m just a guest here. This place is not my home, it’s just a place I live in now against my will. As we walk I hear someone calling my name, I turn around and find Irina running toward us. She is so gracious even when she runs, she is like a Barbie doll in real life, her golden hair shines against the sun beams and hey blue eyes sparkle like diamonds. Even though her face is reddened due to the effort of running, she still looks gorgeous. “Victoria, wait!” She says as she reaches us. “I am so sorry about the way my mother behaved today. She has no excuse. I feel terrible that you
