Chapter 39: A New Face

“Mommy!” Eleanor became emotionally ecstatic upon seeing her mother finally awaking from the deep sleep that she was in. “E-Eleanor…” she whispered out of her lips as she tried to get herself up and sitting right from the bed. Her face could not be seen clearly as the while bandages covered most of her facial features including her nose. Though Eliza had awoken and was responsive to her daughter, Eleanor could not help but feel worried about the bandages that were covering her mother’s face. The doctor noticed the worry and confusion inside of Eleanor’s eyes and came forth with his lips curved. “There is nothing to worry about, Eleanor. The fall that your mother was in, made a few injuries to her face but I was able to fix it all up. I’ll take the bandages off now so you can see for yourself….” The doctor said to convince Eleanor tha

Chapter 40: Facing the Past

“Eliza, there is actually an emergency that I need to inform you about…” he said with a concerning voice.   “What is it, dad? Everything alright?” She asked with her eyebrows narrowed at the strange news that her dad was referring to.   “Actually, I went in for my routine check up with my doctor and during the examination, he told me that due to my old age, carrying out my duties at Harper Corp would not be the best for my health. I tried to convince him to allow me to continue my duties but he is reluctant to do so.”   “So I was wondering if you could come back and take charge of Harper Corp for me?” He asked her as straightforward as he could. It was too much of him to ask but he would not have brought it up if it were not so important either.   “Dad! What are you talking about? Are you ok?” Eliza asked with a pale face. She could not believe that her dad’s health was deteriorating. There was just

Chapter 41: The Other Twin

“Daddy!!” a young girl’s scream echoed through the silent mansion of a home. Within a few seconds, a series of thumps against the floor could be heard, making the young girl’s face widen with a smile. She turned around from the large mirror through which she was admiring herself and noticed a tall, built man standing at the door of her room.   The man stood still in awe looking at the tiny five-year-old, swaying her skirt in front of her. She was dressed in a navy-blue, long sleeved school uniform with a plaid red skirt.   With a slight tilt of her head towards the right and her hands placed on her hips, she let out a few words with a rather confident yet adorable voice, “Well daddy, what do you think?”   The man who was her father, had a dumbstruck expression painted against his face which led to a fade of excitement on the girl’s face as well. She was awfully confused with the way her dad was reacting to her and her un

Chapter 42: A Trip Down Memory Lane

It was a new day. A day of new beginnings for both Elenor and Eliza as they set foot on a train en route to the old city. While the both of them were nervous about their new life, Eliza was the one who was the most worried about this journey. She feared the worst to come especially when the matter concerned Eleanor. She knew that Benjamin resided in the same city. He had not left the place like she had. She felt like she was entering the lion’s den as the train was nearing their stop. Her heart was beating in an erratic manner as she held onto the railing. Anxiety was flourishing inside her, making her face appear pale and drained. Eliza’s abnormal appearance caught the attention of her little daughter with curious eyes. “Mommy, are you feeling alright?” she tugged at her pants to drift her mother’s attention towards her. Eliza, trying her best to shield her only daughter left from all the pain and suffering that she had borne, dismissed Eleanor’s concerns, “Of course sweethear

Chapter 43: Meeting Her Family

Eleanor was in awe the more she approached the grand structure. It was night and day compared to the old home that they used to live in Riverburgh. She let her eyes scan through the place, her height much smaller in comparison. It was a new environment for her so she kept close to her mother as they passed through the front yard. There was a small stream flowing below the bridge that they were just passing through. Stones that were carved in abstract as well as flowery art beautified the area even more. Small fish swam across the stream in the most gentle manner, making Eleanor smile. It was like heaven on earth… even Eliza was impressed with the upgrade done since she was last there. “Wow!” Both Eliza and Eleanor gasped in sync. As they approached the large wide doors ahead of them, they stopped in their place and pressed the doorbell. Doug stood besides them as he set the luggage down after carrying them all the way to the doorstep. Before they knew it, the door was opened

Chapter 44: New Nightmares

“Dad, can we talk about that? I need to tell you something but in private.” Eliza and Tom both knew that discussing Benjamin in front of Eleanor was not good at all. It was difficult shielding her from her own biological father but Eliza had no choice. She did not want Eleanor to know the monster she had as a father. She knew that it would break her heart so she decided that it was better if she did not know him at all and she was determined to have it that way. “Uh, Mary!” Tom quickly thought of something and called for one of his maids. “Yes, sir?” “Could please take my darling granddaughter to the living room?” he directed his maid to escort Eleanor away from the discussion that they were about to have.Eleanor stared at them with confusion wondering why they wanted to send her away. Her concerned eyes caught their attention, making them bend their knees.“Sorry Eleanor, your mom and I just need to speak for a bit.” Tom wanted to give a vague explanation, hoping that Eleanor

After all, it was the first time being in that house and city… naturally Eleanor was not too comfortable in unfamiliar surroundings without her mother. “I’m sorry baby.” she leaned in to take her in her arms.“Don’t worry, I’ll be with you from now.. Okay?” “Now come on, finish your popsicle before it melts completely.” After Eleanor gave a nod of und

Chapter 46: Anger Strikes!

“Psst, hey… you look familiar to me!” the girl sitting behind Eleanor whispered after poking her shoulder. The words uttered by the girl confused Eleanor. It was confusing to her to put it simply. She did not know who that girl was and wondered what she meant. “What do you mean?” Eleanor whispered as her curiosity got the best of her. The two were facing each other even though they were seated one ahead of the other, causing them to receive attention from the rest of the class as well as the teacher. The teacher who was named Mrs. Vitalo was busy trying to teach math to the class when suddenly she noticed everyone’s attention was stolen by the conversation between Eleanor and the girl behind her. Mrs. Vitalo got upset that her efforts were going in vain by such disturbance. She did not like it one bit and in response to that, she took the duster sitting on her table and banged it hard on the surface of the table. She successfully grabbed everyone’s attention including Eleanor an

Chapter 47: Hatred

“Bailey, there is this new girl who looks like you!” These words that were mentioned by Stephanie, sparked attention in Bailey’s initial uninterested mind. She could not believe what she was just hearing. “What did you just say?” the “I mean… she is not as pretty as you are but she is definitely smarter… like she crushed the teacher at math” The atmosphere was a pin drop of silence in Bailey’s mind as she processed what she had just heard from Stephanie’s lips. It was something that she never heard anyone say to her before. All her life she went by having compliments commenting on how unmatched she was. She was treated more like the Queen wherever she went because of her dad’s influence. “What did you say? Who is smarter than me? Do you know who you are talking to?” she had an annoyed tone dominating her voice. It would have been a trivial matter but for her it was like an insult. “I know but I really do think-” Bailey cut her short with her temper that erupted a scream, “

Chapter 48: Afraid To Lose

“Dad, stop!” The little girl’s voice was strong enough to break the never ending cycle of fight that Benjamin was having with Shannon. It brought them back into the real world with their attention immediately directed at Bailey. “Why are you shouting at her? She did not do anything wrong… in fact, she came to me when I needed someone… Where were you? I was calling out to you multiple times before she came to me.” Defeated by his daughter’s words, he tried to defend his actions, “Sweetheart, I was at work-” “Is your work more important than me, daddy? “No sweetheart, of course not!” “Then act like it's not!” Bailey dashed away from the room, leaving her father in a tight spot. Although he returned home to meet her, the type of encounter he had with his daughter was not what he wanted. Shannon took a good look at the state of Benjamin… The frustrated defeated look dominating his face. It gave her a gush of happiness. Letting out a chuckle to mock Benjamin, she followed Bailey a
