“Dad, can we talk about that? I need to tell you something but in private.”

Eliza and Tom both knew that discussing Benjamin in front of Eleanor was not good at all. It was difficult shielding her from her own biological father but Eliza had no choice.

She did not want Eleanor to know the monster she had as a father. She knew that it would break her heart so she decided that it was better if she did not know him at all and she was determined to have it that way.

“Uh, Mary!” Tom quickly thought of something and called for one of his maids.

“Yes, sir?”

“Could please take my darling granddaughter to the living room?” he directed his maid to escort Eleanor away from the discussion that they were about to have.

Eleanor stared at them with confusion wondering why they wanted to send her away. Her concerned eyes caught their attention, making them bend their knees.

“Sorry Eleanor, your mom and I just need to speak for a bit.” Tom wanted to give a vague explanation, hoping that Eleanor

Eliza and Tom were extremely worried as Eleanor was standing before them with an orange popsicle in her hand. Behind her, Mary rushed along with a stressed out expression. “I’m so sorry sir and ma’am… I turned my back for just a minute and she disappeared.” Mary begged for their forgiveness, understanding what a grave mistake she had committed. “Eleanor… sweetheart… What are you doing here?” Eliza sprang up from the chair, tucked some of the hair at the front behind her ear and approached her daughter. “I was searching for you mommy…” Eliza realised that she had been away from her for a while now causing Eleanor to be a bit nervous. After all, it was the first time being in that house and city… naturally Eleanor was not too comfortable in unfamiliar surroundings without her mother. “I’m sorry baby.” she leaned in to take her in her arms.“Don’t worry, I’ll be with you from now.. Okay?” “Now come on, finish your popsicle before it melts completely.” After Eleanor gave a nod of und

“Psst, hey… you look familiar to me!” the girl sitting behind Eleanor whispered after poking her shoulder. The words uttered by the girl confused Eleanor. It was confusing to her to put it simply. She did not know who that girl was and wondered what she meant. “What do you mean?” Eleanor whispered as her curiosity got the best of her. The two were facing each other even though they were seated one ahead of the other, causing them to receive attention from the rest of the class as well as the teacher. The teacher who was named Mrs. Vitalo was busy trying to teach math to the class when suddenly she noticed everyone’s attention was stolen by the conversation between Eleanor and the girl behind her. Mrs. Vitalo got upset that her efforts were going in vain by such disturbance. She did not like it one bit and in response to that, she took the duster sitting on her table and banged it hard on the surface of the table. She successfully grabbed everyone’s attention including Eleanor an

“Bailey, there is this new girl who looks like you!” These words that were mentioned by Stephanie, sparked attention in Bailey’s initial uninterested mind. She could not believe what she was just hearing. “What did you just say?” the “I mean… she is not as pretty as you are but she is definitely smarter… like she crushed the teacher at math” The atmosphere was a pin drop of silence in Bailey’s mind as she processed what she had just heard from Stephanie’s lips. It was something that she never heard anyone say to her before. All her life she went by having compliments commenting on how unmatched she was. She was treated more like the Queen wherever she went because of her dad’s influence. “What did you say? Who is smarter than me? Do you know who you are talking to?” she had an annoyed tone dominating her voice. It would have been a trivial matter but for her it was like an insult. “I know but I really do think-” Bailey cut her short with her temper that erupted a scream, “

“Dad, stop!” The little girl’s voice was strong enough to break the never ending cycle of fight that Benjamin was having with Shannon. It brought them back into the real world with their attention immediately directed at Bailey. “Why are you shouting at her? She did not do anything wrong… in fact, she came to me when I needed someone… Where were you? I was calling out to you multiple times before she came to me.” Defeated by his daughter’s words, he tried to defend his actions, “Sweetheart, I was at work-” “Is your work more important than me, daddy? “No sweetheart, of course not!” “Then act like it's not!” Bailey dashed away from the room, leaving her father in a tight spot. Although he returned home to meet her, the type of encounter he had with his daughter was not what he wanted. Shannon took a good look at the state of Benjamin… The frustrated defeated look dominating his face. It gave her a gush of happiness. Letting out a chuckle to mock Benjamin, she followed Bailey a

It was a month later and a new day in the life of Eleanor. She had spent quite a while living and adapting to the new city and life with a new member and environment. At first she thought it would be very difficult for her to settle down, however as time flew and she grew on her grandfather and the maids of the house, she actually began to like her new life. With a usual morning routine done, it was another day of school. Eleanor sat in her usual place in the classroom with a sigh. Although it had been a month since she attended school, she did not really make a lot of friends. It was not something she thought about much initially but later, she would wonder what life would have been if she had had a few friends. She would want to try it out but her shy personality always got in the way, causing her to retract and spend time all by herself. The dullness of the day was setting in place with the grey clouds blanketing everything below it. As they approached the school, the bleak light

“You idiot” Bailey lashed out in rage as she looked at the mess that had ruined her perfect outfit for the play. Her eyes popped out with her lips shriveled up as the anger kept seeping through every part of her body. Though she was quite young, she had the temper of a full fledged adult and control was not a part of her dictionary. After letting out the only two words from her mouth, Bailey had expected some sort of a reaction from the troublemaker Eleanor but all she was greeted by was a still back that had no movement except for the shivers that the body was experiencing. Infuriated by the lack of communication or reaction, Bailey walked up front to Eleanor She needed to confront her to release all the anger that was bottling up inside of her till now. However, what she wanted to achieve seemed impossible because Eleanor’s face was facing the ground without any signs of her getting up anytime soon. “Hey! I’m talking to you!” She attempted one more time to hear some words from

“That girl… she’s… she’s my sister!” Eleanor gasped as her eyes felt stunned looking over the words in the biology book. She thought that if she could find the answers to her questions, it would bring her some satisfaction and subside her hunger to learn more about that girl but in fact, the opposite happened. The shock of the truth hit her harder than she expected. She could not believe that that girl was actually her twin sister. Eleanor never recalled her mother even mentioning a thing about her having a sibling. She always thought it was just her mother and her with her absent father. “Why did mommy never tell me about this?” She thought to herself, questioning many things about her life at that point. The fact that she knew she had a sister out there gave her shivers as it came out of the blue. What was she supposed to do at this point? She contemplated whether she should confront her mother about this but she feared her reaction and whether it was the right thing to do. Sh

She didn’t have any other emotion inside her except for pure hatred. “Did you think you could ruin my day and expect me to forget all about it? How shameless of you to just bump into me like that!” she hissed with a glaring view. Eleanor was puzzled with her sister’s behaviour. She knew that their previous encounter didn’t get a good start but Bailey also didn’t get to see her face clearly. Now that she was able to, why didn’t she recognise her as her twin sister? Long after his exhausting night, it was finally the next morning. Benjamin woke up at the command of his usual early alarm. He was punctual and did not require to hit the snooze button even once. He dressed up in his normal business attire— a blue suit, before walking downstairs towards Bailey’s room. It was his morning routine to go ahead and wake his little daughter up and prepare her for school. However this time, his eye caught a glance of Eliza and Eleanor’s room that was located adjacent to Bailey’s. He contemplated whether to greet Eleanor a good morning first but he somehow felt that he should go ahead with Bailey. After all, he did recall how stressful last evening was. Bailey’s doors were opened, allowing Benjamin to witness his daughter surprisingly out of bed before his arrival. He was amazed by what he saw… so much so that his face tightened as his mouth stretched with a gasp. “Bailey? Is that you?” He asked, still maintaining his previous look. Bailey, who was

The two were in contrasting states with Eliza being extremely furious and demanding while Benjamin was calm and cool. “Answer me, Benjamin.” She walked right up to him and placed her right hand on his shoulder in order to gain his attention. Without any warning, once Eliza’s hand touched his shoulder, Benjamin vice gripped her arm and held it behind her back. “Ahhh!” Eliza moaned in pain as his strength was unmatched in comparison to her tiny frame. “Don’t you dare touch me.” Benjamin rebuked her actions with a stern touch in his voice. Eliza knew he wasn’t playing around. He was at the brink of ripping her arm off. “Then tell me under what reason did you allow Shannon here? Why is that demon so close to my children?” Eliza cried out. “The same reason why I’m allowing you to be so close to MY children.” Upon he

Shannon stood rigidly at the entrance of the grand dining room, her gloved hand clutching a bundle of shopping bags, while the other removed her tinted sunglasses to allow the bright light of the room to penetrate her eyes. As her vision cleared, Shannon's heart plummeted with shock as her gaze fell upon none other than Eliza. The tell-tale sign of her surprise was visible through the sudden constriction of her pupils. Her hands, weakened by the shock, could not bear the weight of the bags, and they tumbled to the ground with a loud thud. Meanwhile, her red lips parted in disbelief. "Eliza?" Shannon muttered, feeling lost and unsure of how to react. In the presence of everyone seated at the grand table, Shannon struggled to regain her composure. Everything felt so unreal initially until realisation hit her. A surge of anger coursed through her body as she recalled the years of hard work she had put into getting rid of Eliza for good. Shannon could hardly fathom how her nemesis ha

Eliza did not waste a second before scooping Eleanor in her arms, not breaking her eye contact with Benjamin. She was furious internally by his behaviour that he was displaying in front of an innocent child. “My baby, are you okay?” she asked, breathing heavily while inspecting Eleanor in case Benjamin was rough with her. She knew that whenever anger took over the man, his senses completely collapsed. He wouldn’t be able to distinguish right from wrong and harm the ones he’s supposed to protect. Thankfully, Eleanor was in perfect condition but it was obvious that she was mentally disturbed by the clash between her parents. Once Eliza and Eleanor entered Benjamin’s mansion, memories began to flood Eliza’s mind without any warning. She remembered all the moments she used to spend with Benjamin in each and every single corner of the place. The moment they wanted to commit their lives to each other. A tear trickled down the corner of her eye but she instantly wiped it clean. She d

“Please Benjaminn…. Please give me my daughter back.” Eliza was practically on her knees begging for the safe return of Eleanor. As time passed with Eleanor not by her side, Eliza felt an empty hole in her heart. She didn’t want to fail the only daughter she had left. Getting her back was the only way to mend her broken heart. “You don’t have to beg this prick for anything, Eliza.” “If he won’t co-operate and give our Eleanor back, I’ll make sure his life will be a living hell.” Tom targeted his blood shot eyes at Benjamin with his fists tightening with every passing second. If it weren’t for the security guards, Tom’s anger would have led him into a fist brawl with his daughter’s ex-lover. The atmosphere was silent with tension looming over it. While Eliza and Tom were restless, Benjamin had a cold expression plastered on his face. Amidst the guards, Benjamin began to advance his way towards the father-daughter duo on the other side of the gate. “Sir, what are you doing? Plea

The tears rolling down her eyes dragged her black mascara with them, staining the rest of her face. Her appearance was night and day compared to what it was when she left the house to spend a day with Eleanor at the mall. “Dad… he… he took her!” Eliza sobbed, her face falling in her dad’s arms. He gently caressed her while bearing a stressed out and confused expression. “Who took who? Eliza? Where is Eleanor?” Tom fretted several questions at her. “B-Benjamin… he took m

It took everything in her to not break down in tears in front of her ex and children. She did not want to cause a scene in front of any of them. Moreover, she was feeling very emotional after taking a look at Bailey. She recalled giving her up unwillingly to Sharon that day at the hospital. If only…. If only she was not so helpless, she could have had Bailey to herself instead of letting her grow up with a man like Benjamin Clayton. She always wanted to be a role model to her children to grow up to be fearless, independent women but looking at her now, she felt like she failed to do so. “Come on, Eleanor, let’s leave.” Eliza grabbed ahold of Eleanor’s hand and proceeded to leave everything she encountered here behind. Eliza knew she couldn’t let all those years of healing herself be shattered

Eliza couldn’t believe what she was seeing in front of her. The Benjamin Clayton was standing tall in front of her. “Be-benjamin?” she muttered under her breath. Never in these years, she expected to say that name again. Never did she expect to see that charming face once again. He looked the same, except a bit more mature. Eliza was in awe to be so close to him once again. Memories of the cruel treatment that he subjected her to instantly began to play in her mind. The colour on her skin flushed out with the intense anxiety she began to feel, reliving all those painful memories. A lonesome tear began to trickle down her cheek and onto Eleanor’s head. Eleanor was nervous, wondering what was going on in her mother’s mind. Bailey noticed that Benjamin wasn’t even looking at Eliza. He was fixed on Eleanor as if he was seeing a miracle in front of his very eyes. “You mean you want to bring your mom and my dad together?” “Yes!” Eleanor answered Bailey’s question with an eager face. She was nervous and anxious at the same time as she knew she was very close to finding out who her real dad was. Though it had been long with his absence in her life, it was better late than never. Bailey took in a short burst of air and let out a sigh. She played with her air as she was lost in her thoughts with Eleanor patiently waiting for some sort of reaction from her side. “But don’t you think they’d get upset if we did this? I mean… they must’ve separated for a reason.” Bailey broke her train of thought and let out a crucial question. She knew very well how angry her dad could get. “You’re right… but… this is the only way to get the truth out of them.” Eleanor stuttered in a low voice. Though she was concerned as well, she couldn’t think of any other way. It was either them uniting their parents or all of them acting like total strangers for the rest o
