Chapter 6

It hit me like a lightning bolt, and I froze.

Now it made sense why Trevor had been so eager to write that forgiveness letter to Roxanne. That conversation explained everything, and suddenly, it all just felt so ridiculous.

Trevor and I had been married for almost ten years, but his love child was already 18. It had been ten whole years, and here I was, totally clueless, like an idiot.

So why did he do that? He already had Maeve. What made him marry me?

I pressed my hand to my mouth, fighting to keep the sobs in. I couldn't take it any longer. I had to get out of this place of pain, and I was taking Cyril with me.

I started packing like a maniac, cramming Cyril's clothes, toys, and belongings into the suitcase.

Then, in the middle of it all, a kids' smartwatch fell out, covered in bloodstains. The screen was cracked. It was the watch Cyril had been wearing the night of the accident.

My hands shook as I picked it up and clutched it tight in my palm. "Cyril, I'm taking you with me
