Chapter 5

Colton slammed the door behind him as he left. Then, he never returned home for the next two weeks.

One night, sometime at midnight, Jett suddenly called me up. He told me unwillingly that Colton was drunk out of his mind and kept calling my name, wanting me to come and get him.

I refused at once.

"It's the middle of the night. Since you're there with him, you can bring him back with you. Or, get Darlene to take care of him instead."

I meant every word I'd said. Without me around as the third wheel, Colton and Darlene could even play a heartfelt round of Truth or Dare and reveal their real thoughts to each other.

However, a short while later, Colton came home by himself.

He wore a glacial expression as he tossed his alcohol-reeking clothes in the bathroom, took a shower, and went to sleep on my bed.

I hated it and found it awkward, but I didn't have the energy to argue with him, so I pretended to be asleep as well.
