Chapter 6

Suddenly, my phone rang.

It was Aaron's mother.

"Mrs. Jane,” I answered, my voice shaking.

"David, the police just called saying Aaron is dead? They're lying, right? Tell me they're lying!"

She was sobbing uncontrollably.

My heart ached hearing her.

“It's true. Aaron is... dead." I closed my eyes as I spoke those words.

“Aaron!” She wailed, and I heard a thud.

"Mrs. Jane?!" I called out in panic.

"I don't want to live anymore!"

Her words made my blood run cold. I shouted into the phone, "Mrs. Jane! Please don't do anything rash! The police have leads. We'll make sure Aaron gets justice!"

I spoke with absolute conviction.

After consoling her for a long while, she finally calmed down somewhat.

After hanging up, my expression changed several times before I made up my mind and went to find the officer.

"I'll help you, but you must guarantee my safety."

He looked surprised, then promised firmly he'd protect me.

Soon, he equipped me with a micro-camera and an earpiece.
