Zane and I hosted Jane and Monica graciously that evening, and the air in the house felt much lighter. At 10:00 pm, we showed them to the door with smiles on our faces.

Finally, we lay down to rest. Our nighttime routine was still the same as before; calm and quiet with nothing happening.

At that moment, I couldn't fall asleep. I lay against the head of the bed, watching videos on my phone. I was subscribed to the local news channel. In the video, the newscaster once again mentioned the accident that happened in front of the office.

Three people had died on the spot, while three others had been gravely injured. Now, two of them were in critical condition. However, the driver had fled the scene and was still at large.

The fugitive's name was Bree Polene, and she drove a BMW. She had been the queen bee in high school and always bullied her peers. I'd known her back then but rarely interacted with her.
