chapter 6

Arianne received emails from different colleges and universities. No wonder they wanted her, she graduated magna cumlaude of her batch.

Sadly she find it hard to choose where to go, seems like everything is, if not too far then it's too good to be true.

She felt so confuse about her studying again. Maybe it's because for several weeks, she's not feeling fine. Her father told her to relax and let things takes it's course.

Today, she decided to end her laziness.

She get up in her bed and go to her bathroom to have a shower. She's already putting on her underwear when she see her sanitary pads on one corner and remember her period didn't come yet. But she's regular.

She gasped when thinking that maybe, just maybe! Her heart beats tremendously fast.

She now remember Jace never use protection! And they do the deed for several times.

Shaking her head in exasperation, she hurriedly finish dressing up and prepare herself a breakfast consist of a granola bar and coffee.

Good thing her dad already left early and will be back maybe little late tonight.

She went to her car and drove to the nearest drugstore. After buying three different types of pregnancy test kits, she went home and go straight to her own bathroom.

She dip all three sticks in her pee on a plastic cup and wait for several minutes following the package direction very carefully.

She kept pacing back in forth in her room thinking so hard about the "what ifs". Her heart won't t stop thumping very hard and the tension it gives made her almost freak out.

When she thinks it's time, she came back to the bathroom to check the tests.

She cover her mouth in shocked after seeing that all three sticks have all two lines indicating she is positively pregnant!

She lay on her bed while thinking what to do best but failing to do so. Her tears came running through her face. She felt so disappointed with herself right now and she already felt guilty for betraying the trust of her father.

She close her eyes for a few seconds to try to clear her mind. And she thought, it's working on her!

First thing first, she's going to keep her baby of course!

This child will be her remembrance from her one great love.

But she thought, he doesn't need to know about it! He look so happy and contented with his way of life now and she don't  think he would want to ruin that because of an unplanned pregnancy and a baby!

As for her, she already like the idea of having her own child and she is more than willing to take care and protect her or him.

She sure has to tell her dad right away! But that can wait until later.

Then it became so clear to her, the reason she got confused about her studying again, it's because she can't do it now or maybe even a few more years.

She needs to look for a job. Maybe she can work up until she give birth. She can't always rely on her father for financial support.

Though her grandmother gave her enough money before she left the Philippines, she thought it wont be smart to just rely on it especially now that she's going to be a mother without a husband or partner.

A flash of fear struck through her upon thinking of herself being a mother. What if she end up just like her mom?

Shaking her head, she need to believe that she's more capable of being a good mother to her child because even just now, she already love her little one.

And she wants to do anything for her child.

Smiling at the thought, she take out her phone and type a text message for her dad.

"hey Dad! Please try to come home early for dinner I have a surprise for you. I love you! Be safe!"

She then busied herself preparing for dinner.

After all the cooking she did, she went to her room and take a rest before taking a shower and wait for her father to arrive.

"hi daughter! What's with all this? C'mon!" her father said excitement shown all over his face. 

He was in the living room typing on his cellphone when she went down.

She felt nervous about this talk but her father's smile seems like telling her to stop worrying.

She took a deep breath and give him a small and hesitant smile. "well Dad, first, I want you to know how much I love and needed you in my life. And I know that in telling you this, I may disappoint you but right now I'm begging for your understanding." She said as she sit down on the couch across him.

"whoa! Is it that serious? Are you? Okay, I'm good. Speak!" he said then she noticed her dad holding his breath.

"Daddy, I'm pregnant! I'm so sorry! It just happen. But please Daddy I want to keep it. This is the only remembrance I got from him Dad!" she said then out of nowhere, her tears came fast.

"of course you will keep it Arianne! That's my grandchild in there. Come here sweetheart!" her dad said as he open his arms for her.

"Daddy you're not mad?" she said, surprised.

"I am a bit disappointed because I know for a fact that you still want to further your education and you're still young but aside from that I am glad to be a granddad soon!" he said hugging her while patting her back.

"thanks so much Dad! I know I'll be a better parent with you by my side." she said as she buried her face in his chest.

"okay now let's have dinner. I don't want my grandchild to starve of course." he then said chuckling.

They went to eat what she prepared for dinner.

It consist of minestrone soup, penne rigatoni with Italian sausage and peppers and some homemade garlic bread.

She thought her baby would love these foods just like Jace. She shook her head upon remembering him.

She knows she has to move on from him especially now that she's going to be a mother. She needs to be tough and so her emotions as well.

"so are you going to tell him?"

"what do you mean Dad?"

"Jace. When are you going to tell him?"

"But Dad, how did you know he's the father?"

"I just know! Okay, because, aside from me, he's the second man you ever love?" he said in a duh tone.

She smiled at his words. "Daddy! I don't know! I'm still contemplating with my decisions. Things are not that easy now between us." She said trying to get rid of her face blushing in front of her father.

"well sooner not later you have to tell him eventually. But Yanna, you know whatever he say or do, I'll be here for you!" he said seriously as he grab her hand and squeeze it.

"I know Dad! Anyways, tomorrow I am going for my first appointment to the OB Gyne." she then decided to change the topic.

"what time is it? I have two meetings for tomorrow, can't you reschedule your visit so I can come with you?"

"I don't think so Dad. But it's okay I know I can make it. It's still early and I am not that big yet Dad!" she said grinning happily.

"sure you are! But in a matter of time, you will be! Hahaha! But I bet you'll still be pretty!"

"well thank you for the kind words father!" she said scrunching her nose upon imagining how big will she possibly get in few months.

They continue their dinner, talking and planning for how is it going to be now that she is pregnant and is going to be a mom soon.

She told him that her plans to study is on hold cause she don't think she can be able to make it right now. He told her that she can study again after she give birth.
