chapter 9

Arianne's pov

I just got out of the bathroom after I tucked my kids in bed when I heard my phone ringing.

“hello?” I answered without looking on the caller id.

“Yannaaaa!!!!!”

“hi to you too Lexi! How are you?” I just know the voice! Good thing she called up because I was about to do it also.

“I’m good! I have an announcement! Gc gc gc gc now!” she said excitedly.

“okay! Go call K then!” I said laughing at her antic. I quickly open our group chat on my laptop.

Me: “well hello there!”

K: “Yanna mama! I missed you and my babies too!”

Lexi: “how are you doing guys? How’s married life K? Is it still roses and wines everywhere?”

K: “So far so good! oohhh! I have an announcement!😊”

Me: “okay I think both of you have! C’mon! Spill it!”

Lexi: “me first, I’m getting married!!!! Kyle proposed to me last night!”

Me: “wow! Congratulations Lexi!😀😗

K: "congrats!"

Lexi: “thanks! K?”

K: “yeah sweetie! Look guys, I’m now pregnant with my first child!”

Me: “that’s great K! I’m so happy for you and Mason!”

Lexi: “Finally! Yeah it’s about time! Congrats also K!”

Kristinn did have a hard time getting pregnant. They've been trying for several years already.

Me: “so when are we going to celebrate it?” I just felt the excitement and joy for my dear friends.

K: “I’m going to New York next month sweethearts because I’ll be attending a charity event there. I want to stay in your place Yanna but Mason will be joining me you know!?!! I miss my godchildren. How are they anyway?”

Me: “they’re very much okay! Don't you think it's not good for you to travel while you're in your first trimester? And btw, they‘re already enjoying coming to school.”

K: "the doctor said by the time the date of that event comes, i'll be over with the first trimester and it will be safer to fly. Besides, we're flying on a private jet so I think, it'll be a relaxing and more comfortable ride I mean flight!"

Me: "You have a private jet now K?Since when?" I ask cluelessly.

K: "Nope Yanna! It's Jace who offers his, you know!"

Me: "Ohh! Well, at least he's being a good friend to you and Mason😀😘😘"

I'm just glad they never try to talk much about Jace and I just like the several times in the past.

Lexi: “That’s good! Ohh by the way, K I think me and Kyle will gonna attend that charity event also. So maybe all three of us could meet up next month right?”

Me: “That would be good then! Guys, I need to go now. Make sure to inform me when you’re about to reach New York huh? Goodnight guys!”

I said then logged out! I didn’t tell them about me meeting and working with Jace. I bet Lexi knows or will find out about it sooner cause Kyle is Jace’ lawyer after all.

I just don’t want to talk about it at the moment. I'm still in a state of confusion right now. I'm wondering why do we have to cross path again when I can sense his dislike of seeing me and my presence.

I know for a fact that Mason, Kyle and Jace friendship are still the same just like in high school days.

Even now that they are all successful in their chosen field. Jace and Mason are both running very big companies while Kyle surprisingly is one of the best lawyer in the country, they still hang out together.

Why I know?

Because even me is still friends with K and Lexi. They, apart from my dad, knows everything about me. What happen to me after I graduate high school and even when I got pregnant and gave birth to my twins.

They just gave me a favor in return, and that is they’ll never talk about it to their men.

I’m just so grateful for having these wonderful people around me and my kids. They are a blessing to me and my children.

The next day in work was quite bad. Jace’ assistant calls me saying they need another secretary for Jace because he fired the secretary I gave him earlier.

I skeptically call secretarial department and ask for another replacement. And to think that we are very busy in our department now because we just started hiring additional people because that’s what our new CEO wants.

Grateful in it because I successfully avoided seeing him by getting busy in to my work.

My whole week at work was hell!

Jace change and fired his secretaries and even some of our staff saying this and that, now I’m giving him a male secretary thinking it’ll be good for him so I tried. Crossing my fingers, I hope and pray, he will not fire this one!

I was finishing reading some profiles in my computer when the door to my office struck open.

“I need a temporary assistant! Is there anyone who can do it?” Jace said as he close the door behind him.

“What happen to Mr. Austin?” I said as my hearts did some somersaults as I look up to meet his face.

“I have to send him to Las Vegas to personally supervise the construction of my new building there.”

Ohh! He's the boss he can do what he wants! “okay, wait I’ll go check maybe I could send you someone on Monday?!” I said not looking at him and check the profiles of some prospective candidates on my computer.

“No! I want now or tomorrow morning!” I mentally roll my eyes at his arrogance.

“but Mr. Keller it’s already late and tomorrow is Saturday everybody except you and the securities are not coming here for work!” I said in irritation, and also I know the fact that he is working until very late in weekdays and even on weekends.

“That’s an order Ms. Miller! Can't you do it for your BOSS?” he said while giving me a cold look and emphasizing the last word.

“But of course, SIR!” I replied also emphasizing the SIR.

I’m so engrossed at my computer that I didn’t notice he’s still in my office and now bending his body close to me.

“what are you doing?” being him closer is sending me shiver inside that I just can't explain.

“helping you?” he said as he take a look to the profiles.

I move a little to make a gap between our bodies but he grip my hand and pull me.

He took a deep sigh. “We need to talk!” he suddenly said as he reach to turn off my computer and help me to get up from my chair.

Then he started kissing me hungrily without warning. His kiss was rough, it was like he's punishing me.

I don’t know what went me but I kissed him back. And I felt something like being home at last. 

He was my home! Was!

My body and mind are now fighting with each other and being at the center, I felt like my heart will gonna burst out any moment because of the pressure from both sides.

My cellphone ringing brought me back into reality. He instantly loosen his hold on me as I try to reach for my phone.

“hello Dad?” I answered avoiding Jace unreadable face.

“Yanna what time are you coming? The double trouble makers and I are going to have pizza so no need to cook dinner huh?” my dad who's still unaware of my now new boss and that I can sense is still behind me.

“but why Dad? Did they tried to cast a spell with you again?" I said teasing my father for he is always getting toyed by my two adorable babies.

“they both got two stars each so I’m going to give them a reward!”

“oh that's great! okay Daddy! Drive safe! I’ll be home soon!”

I said as I ended the call. When I turn to Jace, I see him smirking.

“You still live with your dad? Why?”

“because he’s the person that I trusted with my life? Anyways, can I just leave now? Tomorrow morning, someone will be there to assist you!”

His phone beeps as if giving me cue to grab my bag and turn to leave. When I was about to hold the door knob he grab me by my wrist and drag me back to my chair.

“didn’t I told you that we need to talk?”

“what for? I told you I’ll send someone tomorrow. I really have to go home now, I'm already tired!” I said pleading. I got scared with the way his eyes that I used to adore so much send some daggers to me.

“aren’t you going to explain to me about your disappearance after high school and then after four years? What about the bullshit of a letter you left, what was that?” he said in an angry voice.

“look Jace I don’t have time for this now. I’m sorry! But it’s better if we stop talking about it here in the work place.” I said then hurriedly run to the door leaving him more confuse as ever.
