Chapter 18

Alex's POV

When I heard the tremble in Alice's voice over the phone, panic gripped me. Her words were shaky, her breaths coming unevenly, and the storm outside roared even louder. I barely took a second to excuse myself, rushing out of the meeting room without a backward glance at the puzzled executives. Questions murmured behind me, but I ignored them, only one thought pulsing through my mind: I had to get to her.

I raced down the hallway, not caring about the concerned stares as I reached my car. The rain had turned into a full-blown storm, sheets of water pouring down as I sped through the streets, my heart racing almost as wildly as the windshield wipers. I hardly noticed the honks and headlights flashing at me as I wove through traffic, urgency pushing me to get there faster.
