Chapter 30 Everything Felt Like an Act

"When will you stop hiding?" Christopher asked with raised eyebrows. He was now seated at the desk.

Yvonne was hiding in the corner. When she could hear no one else outside the door, she cautiously crawled out from behind the curtains.

After spreading some burn salve over her hand, she moved to put the salve back in the kit.

"T-Thank you." She kept her head low as she uneasily pulled out a few ten-dollar bills from her pocket. This was all she had earned through scavenging for recyclables. "About the cake from that day... Thank you. Brady loved it."

She smiled.

Her smile seemed somewhat forced.

While he was not a good man, she thought he was a much better man than those evil people.

He looked at the bills in her hand and uttered in a deep voice, "Keep them. I'll get them from you when I'm short on cash."

She awkwardly clenched her fingers around the bills before hurriedly tucking them back into her pocket.

It was just a joke, yet it was enough to make her eyes go red.
