|GLORY|

“I want a divorce, Glory.” He repeated again and my heart skipped a beat.

“W-What do you mean by that, Sean? Wait,” I reached for him but he moved away like he did earlier. “You cannot be serious. You must be planning a surprise, right? Sean, this is our fifth year anniversary. This is a very bad joke for today.” I cautioned him and tried to play it off with a smile but my husband was not smiling.

“You don’t mean that. Do you?” I asked inaudibly, tilting my head to the side to observe him better.

“I do, Glory.” He ground out.

“Why? Why do you want a divorce? Is it because I am the useless daughter of the Scott family? I told you, Sean. I have applied for jobs everywhere but Father keeps making sure that I do not get them. I have even come up with brilliant ideas that I thought to share with you tonight and I have also spoken with a beauty agency and also tried to come up with more ideas for you and me... Just to… but.. I… why do you want a divorce, Sean?” My lips quivered, and tears instantly blurred my vision as I looked up at the man I had once called my husband. My love.

“Answer me!” I urged. “Tell me why you want to divorce me! I want to know! I have been nothing but faithful to you all these years. Even when you ignored me at times, I stayed loyal. I chose you. I loved you. Tell me, Sean. Why?”

“Because,” He cut in, his jaw hardening. “Clara is pregnant.” He finally said.

I felt dizzy almost immediately, stumbling back but I held the chair in a firm grasp to catch myself.

Clara was his ex-lover. One he had to leave because his father, Drey Kings, demanded that he get married to his best friend’s daughter, Sophia Scott's family. Initially, he had been betrothed to marry my step-sister, Sophia but Father pushed me forward to get married to him because he didn't want to use Sophia to make a bad investment. After all, I was nicknamed the useless daughter of the Scott family.

The truth is that I have always loved Sean since I met him twelve years back but at that time, I was still riling from the death of my mother. He had gone out of his way to comfort me in the little way he could.

I still remember vividly how he offered me his ice cream on the day they came to visit my father. He had just gotten married to Sophia’s mom and as usual, I was always left out of the fun but Sean didn't exclude me. He made sure I was not depressed and would sometimes tell me jokes to ease me up. Since then, Sean has been the man in my heart.

But now…

“Clara?” I mentioned her name like I didn't hear well.

“Yes, and she is returning next week which means that you have to move out as soon as possible.” He gritted out.

“To where?” My eyes twitched as I looked at him through my teary gaze. “Where… where will I move to?”

“Your father’s house?” He arched his brow.

I burst out laughing, the memory of my wedding day replaying right before my eyes.

FIVE YEARS AGO

I was finally getting married to the love of my life. I know Sophia had initially been planned to get married to him but father allowed me to because he needed to get rid of me as soon as possible. I didn't blame him though. At least I was getting married to Sean Kingston.

I stared at the reflection of the beautiful bridal gown and a bright smile curled on my lips. I was very sure Sean would not be able to take his eyes off me through the ceremony.

My stepmother, Sarah, stepped into the room, a scowl appeared on her face as she gave me a dirty look. “Ready?” She sneered.

I swallowed hard, nodding as I moved across the room to pick up my little purse. I followed her out and we soon headed for the church where the wedding ceremony would be held.

On getting there, the Kingston family had already gathered and were expecting the bride. I was left alone at the entrance. Father considered walking me down the aisle but Sarah as always had her way of swaying him.

I was not offended either. I had lost my dad the moment my mom gave up the ghost. He was now just father to me.

The large door opened and I stepped in, controlling my lips from grinning too hard at the abundance of joy in my heart. I almost halted to a pause when I saw just how empty the church was. Just Sean and his father, his mother was dead, and well, my family was around.

I didn't let the hurt sink in as I walked toward him. He reached out to take my hands and I smiled up at him but he didn't return it. That was strange. Sean always returned my smiles and my gestures.

I repeated the vows and Sean did his part then we exchanged rings before the priest told us to kiss. I waited for the kids but it never came. I opened my eyes only to see Sean walking out of the church, leaving me at the altar. I gasped and quickly went after him. Behind me, I heard the mocking scoff of my stepsister, Sophia behind me.

“Sean!” I called after him, wincing as I found it difficult to meet him with the heels I was wearing.

He stopped and turned to me. “Yes, Glory?” His voice was cold and icy and unlike Sean. Sean was always good to me. That was why I was glad Father told me that I would be marrying him.

“You…” I trailed off, unable to say anything.

“Glory, see I...”

“Sean?” A feminine voice called from somewhere interrupting us.

    |GLORY|“You can move into Harriet’s place. I can speak to her on your behalf.” Mary said, offering me a light smile that didn't reach her eyes. I shook my head. “I… I don't think so. I don't want to be a burden to anyone.” I told her. I was already an orphan and a divorced ex-wife now. Not the glorified useless Scott’s daughter. This morning, I prayed mentally in my subconscious that last night was a dream and that it wasn't true but after opening my eyes to see the damage I had done to the room last night, I knew it was real. What more? The empty glass of wine that lay on the ground reminded me of the reason behind my heavy headache. “You are not a burden to anyone… and especially not to me.” Harriet entered the kitchen, handing a file over to me. I knew by instinct what the file was and with shaky hands, I collected it from her. So soon?“He sent it through a lawyer. He is waiting to take back a copy of it.” She informed me. “And yes, he said Sean reduced the moving out date. T
