This partnership could work? I spoke too soon because the days after Azrael went back to being a jerk.
“I don’t mind you making a mess, Azrael, but you should learn to trash used condoms properly and I would appreciate it if you disposed of your alcohol bottles… It’s disgusting!” I shouted as Azrael laid on the couch, rubbing his stomach as he read through what he had handwritten.
“You can always quit.” Azrael said, as he dropped the manuscript and took off his glasses.
Azrael had a bad habit of smoking after writing a good manuscript, but I couldn’t give him that luxury anymore… I was through with being overly friendly.
I grabbed the cigarette butt from his lips and extinguished it before I grabbed the lighter and the box and threw it at a trashcan.
“Smoking isn’t good for your health. I get that science has improved and there’s a cure for cancer, but think about the people who go through a series of pains and drugs for treatment. Please make this easy.” I sighed as I stared at Azrael, who had another cigarette in his mouth and his legs crossed.
I had to be patient; I had to be calm because all this was amusing to Azrael; if not, he wouldn’t be doing this to get a reaction out of me.
The doorbell rang, and I was grateful to whoever was at the door for giving me a solid reason to break the conversation that would lead to a fight and probably a reason for Azrael to drop me.
I opened the door and stared at the female, who stood at the door with a box in her hand. She was beautiful with medium-length blonde hair, and she covered her eyes with a pair of sunshades. She dressed like a model with a fur coat and high black boots, piercings on her ears, nose, and lip with a candy stick in her mouth.
“Can I help you?” I asked as she shoved the box in my hand and walked in.
“Mitsu.” The blonde said as I closed the door.
Azrael must have a thing for blonde, skinny girls that seemed to be extravagant, but I wasn’t one to judge or question beyond boundaries.
“Hara, I told you not to come here.” Azrael said with an annoyed frown as this girl, Hara, straddled Azrael’s thighs as I stared at her confidence before I removed my eyes.
“I missed you. Plus, sis Daphne has been whining to me about how you treated her in front of an omega; turns out you have a new lover. Say, say… Do you like him?” She asked as she took off the shades to reveal eyes of two different colours, brown and green.
“Please don’t read whatever you want about me and Azrael! Also, I’m a married man!” I informed her as she laid her head on Azrael’s chest who didn’t have any interest in anything happening.
“Infidelity still happens even when married, plus there’s no way someone sleeping with Mitsu would call him Azrael. I’m sure you’ve imagined sleeping with Mitsu.” She said as she climbed off Azrael and sat by his side before my eyes went to Azrael, who smirked at her insinuation.
“I’m leaving.” I said as I ran and picked my bag before I ran out of the house disproving nothing she said.
Azrael was handsome, but my relationship with him was strictly business, plus I loved my husband more than anything. It was irritating, but nothing pissed me more than people claiming my feelings for my husband to be shallow or I was desperate to be Azrael’s editor because I wanted to sleep with him.
I believe people should sleep with the one they love because sex was too intimate for me to treat so casually like Azrael and I refuse to be placed in the loose categories people claim omegas to be.
I stared at my plate as I chewed deep in thought before I felt someone’s arm on my shoulders and I leaned back and smiled when I saw Ben with a concerned look.
“What’s wrong, babe?” Ben asked as I dropped my spoon.
“It’s nothing that important.” I replied as I gathered the plates together.
“You zoned out throughout the conversation; you do that when you’re troubled.” Ben said as I sighed and placed my hand on my head.
“I feel insecure about my job. I feel like I’m not trying my best because since I started working closely with my author two weeks ago, he hasn’t written anything. He feels more unmotivated, and he’s giving me a tough time. I’m scared that the problem is from me.” I explained as Ben knelt at my feet and held my hands before he kissed them.
“If there’s one thing I love about you, Leslie, is your tenaciousness. Many people expect nothing from us, especially you, but you keep on proving them wrong with a humble smile on your face. They had so many editors in that company, but they chose you because you have what it takes. You are young and determined. Also, if you can’t do it… it’s never wrong to quit. Maybe not the job, but the role.” Ben advised, and I smiled at him.
“Bennett Campbell, why do you keep making me fall in love with you over and over again?” I asked as Ben flashed his teeth before he brought his lips to mine.
“Because you are mine.” Ben said as I chuckled before he lifted me off the chair and I wrapped my arms around his neck.
“It’s been a while since we last had fun. I’m craving white buns.” Ben said as I laughed as he carried me to our room.
“You still have to wash the dishes.”
“I’ll take care of that after you.” Ben said, and I moaned when he nibbled on my neck.
The elevator door opened, and I was surprised when I saw Director Pemba looking jovial as always this morning.
“If it isn’t our little Leslie?” Uncle Bob said as I smiled.
“Good morning, sir.” I greeted as I turned to his secretary who had a straight face and waved at him.
“How is Reina’s team treating you? They’re not the nicest lot in the building.” Bob said as he placed his hands in his pockets.
“We’re getting along very much, especially with Ash.”
“Ash? That’s nice to hear. How about with your author? Our star writer?” Bob asked as my smile fell and I tightened my hold on my bag.
“Sir, I wanted to…”
“You want to quit?” Bob asked as I stared at him in surprise before I shook my head.
“Mr. Bethan gives me a tough time, but I’m sure he’ll come around. I wanted to ask this question that has been bothering me.”
“Okay.”
“Why me? I’m sure the management knows that Azrael dislikes omegas, plus the fact he hasn’t completed the series of his last work and getting him with someone who has dealt with authors with such a personality is possible since we have qualified people. So why me? Why was I; a beginner in a professional organization chosen for such an immense honour? I know I should be thankful, but I feel that if I don’t get the answer, I’ll never look beyond my nose.”
Uncle Bob was quiet before he hummed in thought and tapped his foot. He looked at Sawyer, his secretary, who nodded and left the both of us alone without interference.
“To be honest, I asked myself the same thing about you when I saw your profile. There was nothing special about you I haven’t seen in someone except that you were an omega that married a beta, and that’s unbelievable these days.” Uncle Bob said, and I felt slightly offended at what he said.
“However, Azrael didn’t think so when we brought potential candidates. He basically said he wanted someone who had nothing to do with the company as his editor and your profile was the only one. He commented a positive statement.”
“Are you saying that…”
“We didn’t choose you Leslie, Azrael did. I’ve known that kiddo ever since he was young, can’t say much about his childhood or his family, but he didn’t have the best childhood, so his behaviour is quite acceptable. I don’t know what he saw in you, especially since he doesn’t mix with your gender, but what I’m sure of is, Azrael didn’t want an editor.”
I watched as Bob smiled and pulled out one of his hands before he patted my shoulders.
“I’ve said too much, but I have a lot of expectations from you, Leslie. I’ve come to like you ever since I met you.” Bob said before he walked away and I watched him leave.
Azrael didn’t want an editor, yet he chose me. So why? Why did he choose me?
I pondered as I walked to my table before I sat down and my eyes fell on the children’s storybook. ‘All Alien needs is a friend.’
I picked up the book and slowly flipped through, smiling at the childhood memories that were attached to this book. I stared at the title and I quickly raised my head.
All Azrael needs is a friend.
I pressed on the doorbell and waited patiently before the door opened and I stared at Azrael with an innocent look. He had a cigarette in his mouth and had his reading glasses; he looked back into the house then stared at me.“What do you want, brat?” Azrael asked as he exhaled smoke from his mouth. “We weren’t to meet today.”“I know, I know, but I didn’t come here as your editor. I came here as just Leslie and I brought drinks.” I said as I raised the bag in my hands. “I can’t take alcohol because of low tolerance, but everyone loves soda, and I also picked up some yogurts if you didn’t like it and bought two cans of beer with a minimum percentage.”“Why are you doing this?” Azrael asked.“I want to be your friend.” I whispered as I took a bold step towards him. “I sincerely want to get closer to you, Azrael.”Azrael stared at me as I waited patiently in silence before he walked in with the
Azrael The vibrations from my phone woke me from the long-awaited sleep. I frowned as I picked up my phone before I saw Reina as the caller ID. I knew exactly why she was calling, so I dropped my phone before something fell from my body; a blanket. I stared at it and picked it up as I tried hard to remember when I took the time to pick it up before the scent of hot food from the kitchen wafted in. It couldn’t be. I thought as I rushed out of my chair to the kitchen. I barged in and stared at Leslie, who was tasting the stew in the cooking spoon before he turned back and smiled at me. “Oh, you’re awake and right on time. Dinner is ready.” Leslie said as he dropped the spoon aside and picked up a few plates. “I told Ben I wouldn’t be heading home late since I’m having dinn
LeslieI was returning home from the office. I was happy heading home early since today was one of those days I refrained from Azrael’s place and prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner.I suggested to him a few times to buy an AI with culinary skills, but Azrael remains the traditional person he is. I suggested a housekeeper, but most of them were elderly people and he would be stuck doing the keeping than kept.I praised the excuses he gave because he enjoyed teasing me, after all, we are now on good terms. Also, he is unaware I am his fated pair, and I’d like to keep it that way.The chances of finding a fated pair were less than a percent and for the few who did, it was difficult for them to be together due to age or marital status, but when they did; it was a love that lasted till death, and their children were usually born of far more excellent genes.I was about to open th
“I’m sorry for how I acted yesterday. It was rude and inappropriate.” I apologized with my head lowered to my team members.“It’s alright. Once in a while, we need you to put us in our place.” Sven said as my brows softened.“I was damn tired of you being too nice or the management and authors would eat you alive.” Jade said as everyone laughed.Reina placed her hand on my shoulder and I stood upright before she smiled at me and raised a chart in her hand.“It’s great to have you back Leslie.” Reina said before I smiled brightly.“Likewise.”The mood in the office was far lighter than the normal that I was familiar with, but I was glad. There was no hard feeling or resentment against me, especially since my team was used to getting complaints from the other staff.“I’m heading out.” I said after I helped Ash process a request for his author since I only had one author t
I held two tickets to an event to an amusement event and sighed when I remembered the words of Uncle Bob.“Leslie!” Bob shouted from the door of our office loudly.“Am I in trouble?” I whispered to Jace, who looked at Bob and shrugged.“He seems excited.” Jace whispered before I heard my name over a megaphone this time.“Leslie Campbell!” Uncle Bob shouted as I stood up. “Outside! Now!” He screamed as everyone covered their ears before his secretary snatched the megaphone and glared at Bob.“Sir, I would appreciate it if you acted appropriately.” Sawyer, his calm and cold secretary, said as Bob smiled and tapped his shoulders.“Sorry love. Leslie now.” Uncle Bob said as I followed suit immediately with Sawyer maintaining a distance that gave us enough privacy.“Is there anything I can do for you, sir?” Before Uncle Bob placed his hand inside his suit, I asked, and he ha
AzraelI was mad, and I was mad for a good reason.“Hoy kid.” I said, as Leslie smiled awkwardly.“I just remembered that I have this thing to do for Reina at the office. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Leslie said, while avoiding my gaze before he left.Strange.“Omega, I need…” He replied by shutting the door with a text message a few minutes later.Another excuse. This went on many times. When we meet, he had something to do; if we had to be around each other, he avoided my gaze and maintained space with his eyes stealing gazes occasionally when he assumes, I’m unaware.I grabbed the cup and chugged the drink before placing it on the table and pouring myself another one.“It’s one of those days.” Mike said as he exhaled smoke. “What crawled out of your pants?”“What’s that supposed to mean? LeslieI focused on editing an author under my team’s management work when I heard a loud ruckus. I was startled at the noise and peeked to understand what was happening.“I have great news, everyone. To celebrate our new employee and making another successful book by author R. K Rowling under our editor Jade Lee; the management has rewarded us with a team picnic with all the authors we handle.” Reina said like she had just won the lottery and it shocked me how everyone banged their table in excitement.“Hey Sven, what’s so special about a picnic?” I whispered, as Sven moved closer.“Any picnic hosted by the company always has prize money. Depending on the game, the prize varies. Team B won one grand for category editor-author leg race. Reina won a new car from an eating contest.” He replied as I stared at him in shock.“Is the management really okay?” I asked, and he nodded.“You
They said it was going to be our team, authors and one invite; an approximate of thirty people, but here we were in a perfect and large private outdoor space with a few board members and their dates. The editors I've assisted introduced me to the other authors. They were super friendly, shocked that an omega like me was the one who improved their work, but friendly in summary as we exchanged names and business cards.I haven’t spoken to Ben since he left and I was going to block him if he tried to call to make any excuse other than where and how he’d get to me. Azrael also wasn’t here, but everybody expected the same from him.“Are you enjoying yourself our little Leslie?” Uncle Bob asked as I stared at the jovial mood at the party. It was colourful and everyone you could never imagine in anything casual was very casual.“Yes, I am. Thank you for honouring our team with this reward.”“Thank you for making us number one. I was hoping you’d be here with your partner. I wanted to see the
A year has passed, and we’ve experienced wonderful and painful things together, but we’re fine and strong.Valentin proposed to Lucas, and they had a fast court wedding in April. No one knew but Ancel, and you can’t blame him. He found out the day they wedded. We knew because I didn’t hear from Lucas for two weeks, but his social media flooded with honeymoon and his past lovers called me to confirm if it was true. We’re happy for them but everyone in the family except Konrad hopes they don’t have a child as Lucas’ fertility period ends. There would be so much awkwardness every time Leslie and I saw that child and the age gap. Dominant omegas fertilities are just too long. There were bad times. Isaac and Sarah separated for a few months because of their careers and a client of Isaac that was Sarah’s childhood friend. It wouldn’t be my concern, but Isaac was my brother, and Lucas cried. They were a power-couple so watching them almost throw everything because of another woman; it was pa

I enter the kitchen and start preparing school lunch for my kid.Ida joins me in the kitchen around six to make breakfast for everyone except I package Azrael’s breakfast because he wakes up when the driver takes Niko to school.Azrael wakes up around ten and eats breakfast late if he eats at all. On days Azrael wakes up early, I don’t work at home.I continue to unwrap wedding gifts from family, friends and fans, sorting things to give out and donate with the servants until I get exhausted. Our habits didn’t change after marriage, and we’ve been married for five months, but things were different in a good way. Pleasant. At least until now.I bolted to the bathroom and crouched in front of the toilet, gripped the toilet seat and hurled in the bowl. My stomach twisted in pain, but gentle pats soothed my churning stomach.“Is that better?” Azrae

My hair was ready, cut shorter than the original length and gelled.Ancel opened the door, surveying seriously with a small note in his hand. He stayed at me and pulled out a white rose from the vase in the room.He placed the rose in my pocket and patted it.“Perfect but I liked the white suit better.”“You were going to make me wear a long veil if I wore that and this is my second marriage.”“You and Azrael would match but the blue isn’t bad. Soft and stable and I get to see you marry.” Ancel said and the door opened.Dad entered with a bouquet of hydrangeas and minor flowers. The doorbell rang, and I opened it. Kaiyo stood there with a pout on his face and glared at me. I spread my arms across the door and leaned back a little.“You’re not here to dump tomato juice on me again, are you?” I asked, and he blushed.I smiled and lowered my arms.“I came to apologise, so listen closely, because I won’t say it again.” He puffed his chest and placed his hand on his hip. “I’m sorry for splashing juice on you and saying embarrassing things.”“Stay away from Mitsuki. You don’t deserve him. He’s mine.” I teased, and he turned red.“S-stop teasing me. Y-you be kissing my feet. I came here today.”I patted his head and smiled. “Do you want ice-cream? Sundae?”“What flavour?” He shook his head and wiped his mouth. “I’m not a dog.”He acted like Becca’s, one of Isaac’s twins in her teenage stage that doesn’t want to be smouldered by adults. It’s difficult to find innocence and pure naivety at his age these days.Everything I wouldn’t describe Lucas, me or Oliver as.“Com

They were all waiting, so I raised my hand to reveal the wedding ring.“Yes!!!” Everyone cheered. Some high-fives and hugged me.“Congratulations!” Isaac said and grinned. “You’re marrying my brother again. Welcome to the family.”We laughed at the joke, and I nudged Isaac.“I can’t wait to tell everyone, and it was all thanks to me.” Ancel gloated and pulled out his phone.“Hold on there cowboy, Lucas might have already beat you to it. He was the first person Azrael called to while we were in Japan.”“I’m still going to spice it up more. I still have a picture of the ring.” Ancel said and started typing.“Thank you.” I whispered to Ancel. “For helping me with the ring.”Ancel nudged me and smiled. “Anytime. Patronise my company to decorate your wedding. I’ll give a discount even though your fiancée is one of the wealthiest living things in the world.”“Of course. Just set an appointment for next week.”Ancel was genuinely happy, but his ey
AzraelI took pictures as Leslie excitedly stuck out his head from the train; the breeze blowing against his hair and his eyes excited with the nature scenery around Japan.Leslie was my kid, but travelling brought out that soul in him more. No sleep for me if he was awake, talking my ears out on all the places he wanted to go.I never want him to cry or feel lonely when I’m around.“I can’t wait to take a lot of pictures.” Leslie said, and I sighed.“I’ve missed hot spring baths.”The train stopped, and we headed for one of the popular temples in Kyoto – Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine. We took a lot of pictures with a temple guide giving the history of the temple. I didn’t believe in any gods, unlike my parents and Leslie is Christian, so I couldn’t understand his fascination with temples.“Should we buy a charm or two? Maybe a souvenir?” Leslie asked.“Kid, these god statures aren’t for decorations and children touch things they shouldn’t. Let’s stick with the papers that won’t leave t

They were talking as Niko coloured and laughed.Dr. Steve touched a colour of the Rubik's cube and Niko would match the colours he picked as they talked about random topics unrelated to colours.Dr. Steve came out as a nurse took supervision, and we followed him to his office. We sat down and stared at Dr. Steve. My chest was heavy and my hands sweaty. I exhaled to ease the discomfort in my gut.“I have a few questions.” Dr. Steve said, and we nodded. “When was the first time you noticed your ward’s condition?”I stared at Ben, and he nodded in understanding.“When he was three. Nikolaus has always responded to the colour red as a baby, so I thought he liked the colour and yesterday, I confirmed he sees everything as red, with few exceptions.” I narrated, and Dr. Steve nodded.“What exceptions?” Dr. Steve asked.“Himself, me and objects that are actually the colour red.”Dr. Steve stared intensely at the both of us and exh

Lennon was a beautiful boy with a messy mop of brown hair, green eyes, and the brightest smile on his lovely face.“Leslie! I have a meeting in less than two hours.” Ben said.“It’s your second son’s first day of school. Be supportive.” I said and
