In the early morning, when Claire woke up, she heard Antony asking for permission to go back to his house for a while to pick up a new stock of clothes and promising to bring Claire a home-made breakfast later. Claire just nodded her head and went back to sleep.
But at around seven in the morning, she woke up again. At first he thought the noises in the room were because Antony had returned. But she was quite surprised because it was not Antony, but her eldest brother, Richard. "Brother?" Claire asked hoarsely. Her brother who was standing beside her bed turned his head. "When did you come?" She asked again after clearing her throat. "Just now." Richard replied casually. Her eldest brother helped Claire to sit down. "Where's Gladwin?" He asked again. "Gladwin?" Claire frowned. Richard nodded his head towards the sofa where Antony's old pillow lay. "Be back in a minute." Claire replied ambiguously. "Who told you that I was here?" Claire asked again. "Abigail." Richard replied briefly. "I only returned to the city last night and this morning Abigail told me that you were hospitalized. I didn't come here right away because I knew Gladwin was accompanying you here." Her brother replied again. "How are you now?" Claire smiled. "It's getting better. Abigail shouldn't have reported this to you. I wasn't planning to die tomorrow anyway." Her joke which actually received a cold stare from Richard. "It's not a matter of life or death, Claire. When you were sick you should have told us. I know you're independent and can take care of yourself but that doesn't mean you ignore us. Your family is not just Abigail and Gladwin." Richard grumbled in annoyance. "I'm sorry. I just didn't want to worry you guys." She said softly. "What about mom? Does she know that I'm being treated?" "She is on her way here with Harry." Richard informed. Then the door of the room was opened from outside. When Richard expected it to be Gladwin and was about to scold him for not giving him any news about Claire's condition, he fell silent. Because what appeared from behind the door was a tall, bulky man with a face covered in sideburns. "You?" Two voices called out at the same time. "You're Antony, right?" Asked Richard in surprise. Antony nodded in the affirmative, the corners of the man's mouth lifted and Antony extended his hand to Richard. "I thought you had forgotten me." Antony replied after releasing their handshake. "I had forgotten what Abigail's father looked like." Antony replied flatly. "Honestly, I was surprised to see your face," Richard coded with a hand gesture, "which is hairy like a jungle lion." Richard replied with a mocking smile. At that Antony burst out laughing. The interaction between the two men clearly confused Claire. "Do you know each other?" She asked confused. "Of course." The two men in the room replied simultaneously. Claire knew that Coskun Company had been one of the partners of her father's cement and brick factory since the time when the company was managed by Claire's late father and Coskun was headed by Antony's father. But Claire didn't know that Antony had been directly involved in Richard's dealings. And that honestly surprised her. But what is even more surprising is the familiar attitude between the two that shows as if they are good friends. Seeing the confusion on Claire's face, Antony finally opened up. "Before we were brought together on business, Richard and I went to the same high school before I moved back to Italy." Antony's words were met with a nod by Richard. "I never knew you went back to America." Richard spoke to Antony again. "When I found out Flavia was your daughter, I was quite surprised. Because I can honestly say that she doesn't resemble you at all. Even so, the thought that we would meet again one day was always there. "All this time I've only met with your cousin, Altezza. And we only talked about general work matters. I never asked him when you were coming back." Richard said honestly. Antony shrugged. He walked to the other side of the bed and placed the food on the nightstand. "Long story." He said as he unwrapped the package and began to open each of the dishes he had brought. One box was filled with sandwiches, another with oatmeal, and another with side dishes such as sliced beef, chicken and steamed vegetables such as carrots and even potatoes. Seeing what Antony did to Claire made Richard frown questioningly. "You two?" He asked deliberately hanging his sentence. Antony and Claire raised their heads together and looked at Richard. "Isn't he your boss at the office?" Richard looked at Claire confused. Claire who had just stuffed wheat porridge into her mouth now nodded her head. "Is it appropriate for a superior to treat a subordinate like this? Or is there something I don't know?" Richard looked back at Antony. Claire and Antony looked at each other before Antony replied. "I like your youngest sister." He replied matter-of-factly. Richard was wide-eyed. Of course he was shocked. A dozen years of not seeing each other-even though they weren't close friends, but they knew each other well enough-and ended up getting the latest news that his old friend was dating his youngest sister? That was pretty shocking news to him. "You're not joking, are you?" He asked still in disbelief. Antony shook his head. "No, no, no. Not at all. We've only met recently, but in that short time I've become infatuated with your sister and I plan to propose to her after she gets out of the hospital." Antony said solemnly. "But, you?" he pointed at Antony and looked back at Claire. "I what?" Antony said before the sentence came out of Richard's mouth. "I'm a widower with a teenage daughter. I know what's going through your mind right now. I'm sure you're thinking the same as Claire who thinks that our relationship won't work. But I will not give up so easily, I will still fight for your sister even if you and your other sister oppose me."Richard shook his head. "Don't be stupid, I'm not that petty." Richard snarled in exasperation. "I'm not concerned about your past or your daughter. Whoever Claire's future husband is, whether he's a widower or a bachelor, whether he's young or as old as you are, as long as Claire loves that man and wants to live with him I won't mind. After all, I know your character well enough and I know your family well enough. And if you still have the same character as Antony from our high school days, I will approve of your relationship while your failure," Richard shrugged, "everyone has their own storyline." he continued firmly. Both Claire and Antony breathed a sigh of relief at Richard's words. But it didn't last long as Richard then continued."The problem here is her." He pointed at Claire. "Our mother has brought a future husband for her."Now it's Claire and Antony who are shocked by Richard's statement."What do you mean?" Claire asked confused."Didn't Gladwin tell you?" Richard asked
In the afternoon, the commotion Gladwin had predicted really happened. Claire's mother came along with Claire's second brother and also her sister-in-law. Luckily, Antony wasn't there because Claire had sent him off to work shortly after Richard's resignation.Claire tried to act natural, as if she had no idea what her mother was planning when she walked in without knocking."Why didn't you tell me you were sick?" Asked her mother who immediately came over and took a look at Claire's condition."I'm fine, the doctor said that I can go home tomorrow." Claire replied flatly. Her second brother also came closer and touched her forehead."Are you really okay now?" He asked with concern.Claire nodded her head in response. "I know I'm the prettiest and most adorable child so when I got sick you guys were really worried about me. But there's really no need for you to fly for hours to see my condition." She said deliberately joking. Her sister-in-law just gave her typical soft smile."Your s
"How would I know, why don't you ask Richard directly?" Gladwin replied still in his casual manner."You all must be losing your minds. Especially you, Claire!" her mother said in a high tone. "How could you want to have a relationship with a man fifteen years older than you? No matter how handsome he is, how rich he is, you should be able to think clearly. Especially since he's a widower. His child is even the same age as your niece.""Then where is the problem?" Gladwin interjected."The thing is, where do you want to put my face?" asked Julie unhappily."Still in your head, where else?" Gladwin joked again. But Julie's glare silenced him."You are my only daughter. The youngest in our family. You are young, you are beautiful and more than that you are intelligent. You should get a single man who is not far from your age. Someone who has an established life, from a respected family."What will our extended family say if they find out you chose a widower? Everyone will think that you
Moments before the commotion in Claire's room happened.Antony tried to finish his work as quickly as he could so that he could return to the hospital as soon as possible. Arriving at the hospital, he accidentally saw Gladwin who was standing still quite far from the direction of Claire's room with a bag of food in his hand. Antony was about to greet his lover's twin out loud, but when he saw Gladwin's serious expression, Antony chose to see where the man's gaze was."Is there something?" Asked Antony in a low voice as he neared the man.Gladwin turned his head and his expression was clearly shocked when he saw Antony. "Are you some kind of ghost?" Protested the man who was younger than him with a furrowed brow. "Why are you back here so soon?" the question was still a protest.Antony didn't know what the problem was. Instead he raised one eyebrow, giving Gladwin a strange look."Didn't you say that you have an evening schedule? So I deliberately came here early so that you could get
Claire was still frozen in place. Staring blankly at the door where her mother and siblings had just left. Is this when the test of their relationship begins? She asked herself silently. Could she succeed in living according to her choice, like what happened to Harry? Or would she have to end up following her mother's wishes like Richard did?But before she could answer his question. The door to the room opened again and revealed the man they had been talking about."What took you so long, where have you been?" Gladwin, who saw Antony's appearance, immediately joked. It was as if he and the man had never met before."Sorry. I have an important meeting at the office." Antony's answer was more to Claire. Claire just nodded and smiled."Brother, can I go home already?" Claire asked her twin brother.Gladwin frowned. "Why, you don't feel at home here? Do you want to go home so you can be alone with him?" Gladwin asked again with his eyes squinting suspiciously. Claire chuckled but then sh
"Have you eaten?" She asked the two teenage girls. Abigail shook her head, as did Flavia. "Order food online, I'm hungry." Claire asked again."Is it okay to buy food from outside?" Abigail asked "Aren't you not allowed to eat carelessly?"Claire shook her head. "I know myself too, Abby. Eating chicken won't put me into a coma. Never mind, just order it." She asked again. But before Abigail could order. Antony looked at the door from outside. "Do you want to eat here or eat outside?" He asked."You were eavesdropping, huh?" Abigail looked at her best friend's father with narrowed eyes. Antony looked at Abigail confused. "Never mind, ignore it." Abigail replied incoherently. "What do you have?" Shee then got up and took Flavia with her."I don't have anything. That's why I asked. Do you want to eat here or outside?" Antony replied flatly.Claire chuckled. It seemed like Abigail had an overly suspicious nature. "I thought you were offering but you actually asked. Aunty wants to eat chic
Antony went to the address Richard had sent him, a cafe not too far from Claire's residence.A waitress on reception duty greeted him as he stepped into the café. "How many people is it for?" She asked kindly."I have an appointment with someone. Is the table reserved in the name of Richard Hampton?" She asked the waitress. For a moment, the young girl looked at the screen in front of her and then still with a friendly smile mentioned the table number and location. Not wanting to waste much time, Antony walked towards the place the waitress had mentioned.A young man whose age Antony guessed was not far from Gladwin and Claire was sitting with a cup of coffee in front of him. Without further ado, Antony immediately sat down in front of him."Mr. Hampton?" Asked the man with a frown on his forehead. Perhaps he was thinking to himself 'why does the figure of Richard in front of me bear no facial resemblance to Harry.' At least that's what Antony thought."Antony." Antony replied without
Claire accepted the glass of warm water with a murmur of thanks.Antony leaned his waist against the bar counter while his hand came up to smooth Claire's hair out of its bun."You don't want to ask?" He asked after Claire put her glass back on the table."About?" Claire asked confused."Where did I go and who did I meet?" Antony said again.Claire smiled. "Do I have to ask?" She asked back.Antony nodded enthusiastically. Claire smiled again. Antony, despite having a big tall body and a face that always showed a flat expression and was classified as fierce, but his behavior was more like that of a childish teenager seeking attention."So, where did you go? Who did you meet, what time did you get back? You didn't meet any other girls, did you?" Asked Claire with a slight frown on her forehead."Are you jealous that I'm seeing another woman?" Antony asked back.Claire frowned for a moment before answering. "It depends on who you meet." She replied with a shrug.Antony smiled. The man's
The two teenagers turned their heads simultaneously towards the aisle as they saw an ominous aura spread around them. Moreover, people were now looking in the same direction. Where the woman Flavia and Abigail had not expected to see had just appeared."Why is that woman there?" Abigail whispered to her best friend.Flavia who had been engrossed in her digital camera and taking pictures was now holding it languidly. "I don't know." She replied innocently. She looked back at the photo produced by her hand, choosing to ignore Abigail and her suspicions."Shall we go closer to them?" Abigail asked in a challenged tone.Flavia raised her head again and looked at her best friend with a furrowed brow. As Abigail started to take a step, Flavia held her back by holding Abigail's arm tightly and shaking her head."No, Abby." She said.Instead, she pulled her best friend's hand to walk away from the reception room and left the hall by walking in the hotel's garden area to take some photos as a
"Full?" asked Claire with a furrowed brow.Antony deliberately re-emphasized his lower body so that Claire was wide-eyed. "You know what I mean, right?" Antony whispered in the girl's ear that inevitably made Claire shudder in horror. The man's lips teased her, starting to caress the side of her face so that she unconsciously looked up and gave him the opportunity to explore the slender recesses of her neck."Can I ask for my rights now?" he asked in a pleading tone.Claire shook her head."Why again now?" Antony asked in a whining tone."Your body stinks," Claire said as she wrinkled her nose. "Go take a shower." She ordered as she turned Antony around and pushed him into her room until he reached her bathroom.Antony wanted to resist, but seeing his wife's glare, he finally went in.What's wrong with his wife. Why is it so hard to conquer her? Instead of spending time kissing hot and wet, Claire pushed him into the shower. Antony had hoped they would move on to the next stage that h
"Those two women were the answer to my mother's prayers," she said, anger flaring in her voice.Antony was taken aback. "No, darling. Your mother's prayers will never be answered like that.""Alright, they did come with certain intentions. But can't you see me? To me, they are nobody. In my eyes, in my heart, in my mind, there is only Claire, Claire, and Claire. There's no other woman." Antony coaxed her in a soothing tone.Claire couldn't help but chuckle at that. "Don't sweet-talk me," she replied with a hint of amusement.Antony shook his head. He stepped closer to his wife. Claire still had her arms crossed over her chest, and to maintain some distance from him, she leaned her body back."I'm not sweet-talking you, darling. I'm speaking the truth. If only there were experts who could read my mind and heart, you could ask them. I'm sure they would tell you the truth. And if they lied, I would bribe them to say what I want them to say," Antony said again.Claire rolled her eyes. Ant

Antony stopped his car outside Claire's house and unlocked the gate with the spare key he had kept for a long time.Claire's car hadn't moved from its spot. It was still there since the last time Antony visited his fiancée's home, before Claire's family took her back.Who knows? Maybe Claire could hear the gate opening or maybe not. But one thing was clear: his wife did not welcome him at all because Claire's house felt eerily silent. Was Gladwin playing a trick on him? Who knows if Claire was really back at her house. He opened the front door and stepped inside, greeting her. Once again, there was no response. When Antony noticed Claire's bedroom door slightly ajar, he walked in.Claire wasn't there. All that was left was the small suitcase she had brought from the hotel room."Claire, sweetheart," Antony called out again, but still, there was no answer.Could it be that Claire left again after dropping off her suitcase and saw Gladwin leave? he wondered to himself.Antony continued
Quickly, Anastasia ran after Antony. She called his name repeatedly, but Antony chose to ignore her until her stiletto heels finally brought her close to him. She immediately reached out and grabbed Antony's arm, but he harshly brushed her off."Antony, listen to me. Please. I'm really sorry. I apologize," she said in a whiny tone. The woman tried to grab Antony's hand again, but he pushed her away once more, causing her to fall and kneel on the cold marble floor. Not wanting to give up, Anastasia wrapped her arms around Antony's legs, forcing him to stop."I'm truly sorry," she pleaded again, her voice desperate. She begged for the man's compassion, finally realizing that everything Antony had said in the room earlier was no joke. "I... I..." She couldn't find the words. "I'm sorry, please forgive me," she begged, tears starting to wet her face.Antony looked down at her with a sharp gaze. "Do you realize that what you're doing has crossed the line?" he asked in his cold tone.Anasta
Antony arrived at a luxurious five-star hotel located not too far from his family's hotel. As soon as he parked his car, he headed straight to the room Letizia had mentioned when he contacted his cousin earlier.Inside the lavish room rented by his ex-wife sat Antony's mother, Brianna Quirino, alongside her husband, Mr. Arthur. Meanwhile, Letizia stood with her hip leaning against the bar chair, her arms crossed over her chest.Don't ask where her children and husband were. Antony guessed that his sister-in-law was waiting for them somewhere. The three family members displayed different expressions, surely with different thoughts filled with questions that might mirror what was in Antony's own mind.On the other side of the room, right above the sofa facing away from the window, two women sat side by side. One was Anastasia, a woman he had pretended to date for work purposes. The other was his ex-wife, the woman he once loved deeply, who had given him a beautiful and devoted daughter.
But then Claire tried to clear her mind. She refused to believe that her mother could be so cruel to her; if that were the case, Claire might end up resenting her mother for the rest of her life.Disloyal? She didn't care about that word. Her face was already free of makeup, and her hair had been released from the beautiful tiara she had worn earlier. Now, the makeup artists helped Claire start to unbutton the lovely gown she had worn, which had so many buttons down the back.Once everything was removed, Claire opened her suitcase, searching for clothes. She decided to clean herself up in the bathroom that was in the dressing room.Feeling refreshed after showering and washing her hair, Claire put on the clothes she had chosen: a pair of jeans and a loose shirt instead of the dress Antony had picked out for her to wear on their honeymoon, which they were supposed to take right after the reception she was now reluctant to attend. No, she wouldn't just surrender herself to her husband a
The events proceeded according to the instructions from the host.Happy? Of course, Claire was happy. Especially seeing Bella's silly antics, who didn't hesitate to liven up the event alongside Gladwin and some of his office friends invited to the wedding, which surprised them as well. After all, Claire's absence from the office had already been quite shocking, and now they were suddenly presented with news of a wedding they had never seen any signs of."I had my suspicions when our big boss showed up at my wedding, and it turns out he was after the cheese in the sandwich," Chand whispered when his friend arrived with his wife. Claire could only smile in response to that accusatory remark.A snippet of the song that Adaline was singing on stage made Claire and Antony hold hands tightly, hoping that no obstacles would disturb them in the future.Guests began to dwindle. Amidst welcoming guests, they also took several photo sessions—not just with colleagues but also to capture moments w
