CHAPTER 38- Deceitful Pretenses

MAGNUS

"Who are you? You're not my wife!" I exclaimed.

"Magnus, what are you saying? I am Lara," she responded softly, gazing deeply into my eyes.

"Can't you see this?" she asked, showing a wedding ring on her finger. "Would it fit me if I weren't your wife?"

I shook my head. "Where did you find it?" I asked curiously.

"I discovered it at the entrance gate of the villa when I returned after obtaining the jewelweed plant," she explained.

"Magnus, I understand why you're feeling this way. You're not yet completely healed. But please don't doubt my identity, as it hurts me," Lara sobbed gently.

I could sense the sincerity in her eyes, but my heart hesitated to trust her completely, something that baffled me.

"I'm sorry, Lara. You're right. I am still recovering."

"It's alright, Magnus," she said, planting a kiss on me. She started our physical intimacy, however, my sexual desire for her suddenly waned, leaving me puzzled by a sudden change.

"I'm going to rest now, Lara. Goodnight," I sai
