32.

“Devlin, you must stop this outrage, I am the boss of this company you haven’t got a say on who I fire. Yes, you are my business partner but that does not give you the right to treat my employees that way!” He explained showing his irritation to the situation. “Jane will keep her job whether you like it or not” He added.

This was the first time she heard Dan sound like a boss which impressed her so much. She can’t help but feel bad for Dan, she knows that he never did love or even like Devlin but because of the circumstances he has no choice but to keep his promise to his father, Jane thought with a deep sigh.

Jane lost her appetite while eating lunch with Roxanne in a Japanese Restaurant in front of the company the next day. She told Roxanne about the meeting the other day.

“That Devlin, is so desperately in love with Mr. Parc isn’t she? It’s quite obvious, she never liked it when another woman is around him especially an attractive one like you.” Roxanne laughed in amusement.

“I think someone else is also in love with Mr. Parc” Roxanne revealed.

“What? Who? Do I know her?” The look of fear and shock painted Janes face.

“You! You stupid! I was talking about you, and base on your reaction my thoughts are right, you are falling in love with Mr. Parc.” Roxanne teased.

“Hussssh, someone might hear you, cut it out” Jane said in panic.

“Wow, you nearly camouflage to that red couch you’re sitting on” Roxanne laughed as she pointed at the red chair.

“So tell me, what happened? Between you two? How did these feelings develop? When did it start? Was it when we saw him in the Shopping centre?” Asked Roxanne excitedly.

Jane tried to explain to Roxanne what happened, she told her everything that had happened even the night that Dan came to her house the other night which pissed her off big time.

Roxanne laughed as she can see how frustrated Jane was. “It seems to me that Mr. Parc is interested in you but just couldn’t do something about because he’s engaged to that demon lady Devlin.” Roxanne laughed.

“Do you really think so?” Jane asked. “Well even if it’s true, I don’t think anything good will come out of it. I don’t want to be the reason why the company goes bankrupt because he didn’t marry that Devlin” Jane sighed as she explained.

“Anyway, even if he marries Devlin, she’s not the one who you need to compete with his heart” Roxanne said. “You have to compete with Rachel Adamson, you asked me to find out about her, didn’t you? Roxanne said.

“Rachel” She thought to herself. Jane felt that this woman has something to do with Dan when she first heard her name from HR.

“What have you found out about her? Who is she? Jane asked.

“Jane, I’ll tell you later. I must go, I think my boss is going back to the office. If he gets there before me, I might get sacked. Roxanne laughs as she bid Jane farewell.

Roxanne left so fast that Jane couldn’t stop her.

“These are the reports that you asked me to gather, and this is the preliminary budget schedule for the next quarter” Jane said handing the big pile of documents over to Dan. But Dan was lost in thoughts looking out the window. He didn’t even notice that Jane was just next to her.

“Huhmm… huhmmm,,” Jane cleared her throat to get Dans attention”

“Dan, here are the documents you asked from me” She added.

“Just leave them on the table” he said to her without looking.

Jane just put down the documents on the desk.

“I do apologize for what happen the other day! I hope you didn’t get in trouble with Ms. Scott.” She started.

“No, that’s fine don’t worry about it. Thank you. He turned to her and smiled.

At the sight of his smile, she can feel her knees weaken, looking at his gorgeous manly face is like looking at the shining sun. Jake came towards her.

“Thanks for being, Jane”

“So, you’re not going to fire me?”

The smile on his face was gone and turned his back again. It seems like he is carrying a big load. What is bothering you Mr.Parc. She thought to herself.

Jane step towards Dan, she wanted to make him feel better, to lessen whatever problem he is going through. She wanted to wrap her arms around him and stop the sadness in his eyes. Is Rachel the reason of your sadness? What am I to you? She thought

As she steps back, Dan turns around. There faces were so close to each other that their lips nearly touched each other. Dan touched her chin and slowly raised her head to see her eyes.

“No, you are not fired Jane” he said intimately” I don’t want to lose you.

Jane was not able to answer him, instead she closed her eyes. “but what am I to you Dan, should I fight for you?” She thought quietly.

As she opened her eyes, Dan was no longer in front of her, he was already sat to his desk. He was flipping the pages of the folder that Jane got for him. He just kept on talking while she tries to find her balance.

“In fact, you need to be ready! One of these days, we might need to go to Spain. I want you to see the hotel, you might have great ideas that could help me.

He was waiting for a response, but he saw her just looking at him.

“Dan”

“Yes?”

“I don’t want to”

“You don’t want to?” He asked baffled.

“I also don’t want to lose you”

It was to too late to realise what she said to him or to retract it. She doesn’t know which one is more painful. The embarrassment she feels about what she said or the empty reaction that Dan has.

She felt like her tears are going to roll down in a minute, she turned her back from him and left the room. She did not go back to her desk; she went out to get some fresh air. She stopped by the reception when she saw a beautiful bouquet of blue roses, she came closer to see it.

“Jane?” Macey the company receptionist called out to her.

“Hey, can you tell Mr. Parc that the Blue roses he ordered is here or if he wants me to have it sent up”

“Hi Macey, I’m so sorry. Can you call them instead? I am in hurry; I was asked to do something.

She said as she starts walking out the company building, her eyes was still fixated on the blue roses.

Jane heard Macey calling upstairs to inform Dan about the roses, a few minutes later Macey called up Dans driver to pick up the bouquet and ready the car.

Everything happened to quickly, she went out and haled for a cab. She asked the cab driver to wait, she was sat inside and waited for Dan to come out the building. A few minutes later, she noticed Dans car moving forward.

“Let’s go, can you please follow that car, keep a good distance so they won’t notice. Instructed Jane to the cab driver,

The cab took off while she took out her pair of sunglasses and put it on.

“Excuse me ma’am, where are we going? This is quite far now and its going to be expensive” The driver said annoyingly.

“I’m sorry, I’ll pay double to whatever it says in the meter, just follow that car. Okay?” Jane answered.

The driver couldn’t do anything but to follow the car. Jane haven’t got a clue as to where Dan is going but she didn’t care, the only thing she wants to know is if who is he giving the blue roses to. Whoever that is, she must be the owner of Dans heart.

-So what if you find out, who he is giving it to?- she thought to herself.

What the hell am I doing? Why am I hurting myself? What good will come out of this? I will see the person that this man loves dearly. But what about me? What am I to him? I know we have something special or am I just imagining everything? Her thoughts were rambling inside her head.

She snapped out her thoughts “I just want to heal whatever pain you are feeling, if you love someone else. I would not be the one to stop it” She whispered to herself.

If he did love someone else, is he still going to marry Devlin? I can’t blame him If he does. He wants to keep the promise he made to his father, a promise that could save the company that his father established and developed for many years. He can’t just give up on it. Oh Dan, I wish I can lessen your pain. She thought quietly.

37.

“Ma’am, are you here for a funeral?

The cab drivers question cut her thoughts.

“Ha? What? Why? She asked.

“Ahm, you said to follow the car they came in the cemetery”

Jane looked around and saw Dans car go in the cemetery, she noticed that the sky was gloomy. A few minutes later it started to rain.

“Please follow the car, thanks” She asked the driver politely.

As they entered the cemetery, the car was slowly moving. There were not a lot of people in there. While they were following Dans car, she remembered that this was the memorial park that Dans father was laid to rest. She remembered because everyone to came to say there final goodbye to their boss.

After a few minutes, Dan came out the car holding the blue roses. It was in front of his father graveyard.

“You can stop here, its fine” Here’s the payment. Can you possibly wait for me please.” Jane pleaded.

“I can’t, I’m sorry I have to go now”

Even before she can ask again, the driver started to reverse the cab which made a loud noise.

Dan turned around to see where the noise came from. Jane saw Dan turned around and jumped in the bush close to her to hide, because of that she couldn’t force the driver to wait for her anymore.

She poked her head out the bush to see what was going on. She saw Dan lighting a candle for his father and left his graveyard. She thought that he was going to go in his car, but he was still holding the roses. Dan started going towards the other graveyard near the end of the cemetery. Jane followed him to see where he was going to.

It was quite a long trek, it took more than 5 minutes before Dan stopped walking. She noticed that Dan looked back, good thing she was able to hide.

-are you meeting someone here Dan?- she thought quietly.

Dan sat down next to the grave in front of him, laid down the flowers and lit up a beautiful candle. Even if Jane was far away, she can sense the sadness from him. Jane looked at the grave, it looked so well maintained like someone is cleaning it every day.

She waited till Dan left and went up to the graveyard where Dan stopped by. She wanted to know who was buried there. She was shocked of what she has seen.

“Rachel Adamson” as she read the plaque. She died 3 years ago.

Jane was so confused, what is going on? Is he still loving the person who already passed away? Is this the reason that caused his sadness?

The rain got heavier with thunder and lightning, She ran towards the direction she came from but she got lost and couldn’t figure the way out. She remembered her nightmare the other night about Dan.

“Dan” as she whispered his name, the rain started to slow down.

She was so confused that she couldn’t even see where she was going until she tripped over and fell over the damped grass. She got startled when she felt someone grabbed her arms. She wanted to shove it off but as when she got up she saw Dan.

“Dan, she hugged him tightly. She doesn’t care what he was thinking. All she wanted to think is that she will never let him go, she will never let go the man she loved dearly.

She felt Dans arms wrapped around her, the warmth of his body. Dan raised her head and in the middle of the rain where no one is there but just the two of them their lips started to touch. It was warm, rough and it felt that he wanted to own her.

If tomorrow ends, with you in my arms is where I want to be. Today is when my world ends.
