SAMANTHA’S POV

Things were gradually returning to normal, maybe not at the pace I would have loved it but at little was something. Valerie's bandages were taken off, she was no longer limping and could take long walks unaided, the pains she felt when she laughed or did anything strenuous were no longer there and to me that was normal enough.

There was only one thing that was off–all through my stay with Valerie, she'd just not get over talking about Lucas and how it'll be nice to go back to my husband.

Lucas' men still mounted surveillance around the house, when we went to the hospital for check-up and even when we went to the mall to restock on our groceries. I went about my daily activities surfing the internet and doing other charity stuff behind the curtain– that was as far as I could go till Valerie was strong enough to be on her own.
