CHAPTER 3️⃣

*Too Close To Death*

Mara walls slowly into the school. The school is a large empty space where vampires can express their capability. The pupils are already lined up for the nights lesson. The teacher is already addressing the pupils when Mara walked in.

"Mara, you are late again."The teacher, Ruby, said with a frown on her face. The whole 21 students fixed their eyes on Mara.

"Yes ma'am, am so sorry."Mara apologized while looking at Katherine who gave her a scornful smile. 

"What does a vampire need to survive?"Ruby asked.

"Attack and drink blood of humans to survive and secondarily for pleasure."Mara said immediately.

"Today, we are going to the city. We are going to learn how to get the age range, gender, blood type and presence of drugs of humans and werewolves by just getting a taste of their blood."Ruby said still looking at Mara.

"Mara, can you tell us how to get the blood type of a human by sucking their blood?. We learnt that in out last class"Ruby asked.

"Ma?.... I have no idea."Mara said shamefully. She wasn't used to the theory part of the class. She only adapt to the practicals. 

The whole class burst into a loud laughter. Mara bowed her head in shame. 

"By the taste, blood group o has a bland taste, A has a smooth taste, B has a longer Fuller taste, AB is the fullest in flavor, but be careful of those with HIV to prevent VIV (vampire immuno deficiency virus)"Zane said as he walks out of the crowd, "that should answer it, miss Ruby. Let's not mock Mara."

"That's nice Zane. Her dumbness is the reason for her being infamous. She'll never make it out of Vamville school. She'll keep repeating this same course."Ruby said angrily.

"Am sorry ma'am."Mara kept saying softly. It wasn't really her fault that she couldn't come out in the limelight. She wasn't born for that. That's what Katherine would say.

"Let's get prepared for the game"Ruby said with a smile. The other pupils quickly rushed to corners to get changed.

"Hey, are you okay?"Zane asked.

"Ehn..."Mara said as she jolted out of her thoughts. She was surprised to see Zane at the school.

"What are you doing here?"She asked him.

"I am in the final class but decided to search for Mara Batloin. She's a very interesting person to have run away without giving me a reply."Zane said sarcastically.

"She really is. I need to get prepared for the game."Mara said.

"Why do you act so weak?, An experienced vampire should be able to tell how powerful you are by just looking at you. I know you are not weak."Zane said. He tried to make her tell the truth.

Mara walks closer to him and said to his face, "don't act like you know something about me or you care. After all you all are the same. I am a very weak vampire. If you don't believe me, test it."

Zane raised his jaw up. She really has some guts. She walks out angrily on him. She immediately walls into a corner to change for the big game.

She began to evolve into her real self. Her fingernails and toenails grow more longer. He skin became more pale. Her fangs grew. It is unusually longer than others. Hers seem special but no one noticed. Her eyes changed into a red fiery colour. She hissed as she join the line for the big game.

💎THE CITY💎

Conri and Collen walls briskly on a lonely road. They had three other werewolves walking behind them. They were looking for a vampire for the ritual. Collen smokes a cigarette and sips from a bottle of bear while Conri tries to avoid the cigarette smell.

"Do you need to do this?"Conri asked. He always seem irritated by Collen smoking habit.

"Smoking makes you a man conri. You are not man enough."Collen mocked. He inhaled a lot of smoke from the cigarette and gave a long exhale. The smoke escape from his ears, nose, and eyes with his mouth closed.

"Man indeed."Conri said, "there are no vampires around."

"We will find. Just a matter of time. Going to Vamville is looking for unwanted trouble."Collen said.

Conri let out a long sigh. The journey to finding his mate is taking so many time. He steal a glance at Collen and wondered how he managed to get a strong heart. 

His mind went back to the previous day, 

"What if I did?"Conri asked Elisabeth.

"What do you mean by that?"Elisabeth asked as she slowly gets up from the bed.

"Why will I k i ll my father?, When I won't assume the throne?"Collen had answered and walked out.

The more Conri thought of it, the more confused he gets. He wave the thought away and kept his focus on getting a vampire.

MEANWHILE

Ruby and her pupils ran all the way from Vamville to the city. She separated the pupils to different places. 

"Stay in groups of three."She said. All the 21 students choose themselves and form 7 groups with Mara on her own. No one wants to be with the dumbest student.

"Mara, you will be a group on your own."Ruby said with pure hatred in her voice.

"Okay ma'am"Mara said softly. 

"Turn into a normal human with only your fangs on. Close it tightly with your mouth."Ruby instructed, the pupils did as told. She sent them off leaving Mara behind.

"You are alone...again"A familiar voice said immediately the pupils ran off.

"Yes. Why do you keep following me?"Mara asked. Zane quickly became visible.

"Invisibility is my super power. I suspect you. I sense that you are lying to me all these while."Zane said.

Mara begins to walk slowly. Zane followed her. He's begining to enjoy Mara Batloin's company.

"What's your super power?"He asked Mara who smiled at the question.

"I don't know"Mara replied.

"How about I teach you how to be famous."He suggested.

"Not interested"Mara said sharply.

"Are you a werewolf?"He asked.

"No, never"Mara answered immediately. She placed her hands on her left wrist and realized her bracelet is gone. 

"How did it fall off?, Is he with it?"She thought as she walks slowly.

"Are you a veawolf?"He asked again.

"Zane Treme, my life doesn't concern you. I am not a wolf not a veawolf. I am a vampire, Mara Batloin."Mara said. She stopped walking. Her instinct tells her that they were being followed.

"What's wrong?"Zane asked.

"Someone's following us"She said. She could feel his heartbeat very close. She could hear his thoughts and feel his emotions. 

"Look out!"She screamed as two wolves sprang out of nowhere. Zane quickly swerve to the end of the road. The wolves snared at them. 

"Vampires, so nice"Collen said as he and Conri came closer.

"Mara, get to safety."Zane screamed as he stands up with full force. The two wolves attacked him immediately.

Mara ignored his warning, she wants to know why she felt everything about this wolf. Collen gets close to her. He grab hold of her neck and squeeze it. Mara tried to free herself. She struggles as he carries her up the ground.

Zane transformed immediately. He grabbed the first wolf and bite it's neck with his fangs. The wolf fell to the ground weakly. The second wolf jumped on him angrily. It scratch Zane's body with his nails tearing his shirt. Blood drip from the injury. Zane smile, he picked the wolf up and threw it far away with force. His injuries healed up immediately.

"Mara!"Zane screamed as he sighted Collen strangling her.

"Mara?, Mara Balcoin?"Conri asked. He immediately rushed to Collen and hit his hands off Mara's neck.

Mara fell to the ground holding we neck with her hands, grasping for breathe.
