Chapter 4 No Need to Slow Down

I instinctively hung up in guilt. It then struck me what I did. Why was I panicking? I was not cheating on Joel!

The man outside my door was my childhood best friend who absolutely batted for the other team.

"I got it. Stop shouting! I'll bathe later. Just let me be," I shouted through the door.

I swiftly called Joel.

He hung up on me.

I called him three more times, but he kept hanging up on me.

Shoot. He had absolutely gotten the wrong idea.

'Dr. Lane, it's not what you think. Hear me out.'

'That man was my friend. He's just a very close friend. That's all. I swear! (pitiful emoji)'

I hurriedly sent two texts to Joel, explaining the situation.

When he did not reply, I was panicking so hard that I sent him a few voice messages to explain myself.

The messages could not be sent. How dare he! He actually blocked me!

The wealth I was so close to had slipped away once more.

I was so pissed that I immediately went to beat up Finn Moran, my best friend.
