We both stared at each other for a moment before he took his gaze to the man holding me. He was the same man I had laid with at the club. The man who marked me.
"Let go of her, Damien. She is not one of your women." Jared instructed but Damien laughed and shook his head.
"Since when do I receive orders from you loser?" He retorted and made his grip on my wrist, tighter. I tried to wiggle my way out, but his tight hold wouldn't bulge.
"I said, let go of her!" he growled but Damien remained still, not moving a bit or showing any sign of fear.
I was standing among the Lycan brothers. The men I should avoid and be far away from. The two of them share a history with me.
One, Jared, is my ex, and the other, is the man I seduced and marked me. Surprisingly, the mark was still there and that meant he was my mate. And I think he is also the stalker who has been going after me since I arrived in the city.
"You came too late brother. I am not letting her go now." Damien said out, still having that sly smile plastered on his insanely, good-looking face that I so much wanted to get my fingers to give him deep marks, but, he would break off my wrist.
Jared drew his brows together and walked closer to me. "Stay away from her, Damien. You don't mean good for anyone and she Is not an exception. Like I said, she is my mate."
Damien laughed out loud and took his gaze back to me. "Are you sure about that? I think you are making a mistake with that decision, brother."
What the hell is going on? I am beginning to feel pissed up by the two men, all I would be able to do is stand in their midst and listen to them batter at each other. I can't do anything to them even though I wanted to.
"I can't make a mistake here. I found out she was my mate years back when I was away. I just couldn't bring myself to accept it so I left," Jared's gaze was fixed on me as he spoke.
Well great. Thanks for reminding me.
I swallowed hard as the memory came rushing back and my heart was engulfed with hostility. He was the cause of what happened to me, and he dared try to claim me?
I withdrew my hands from their grip and clasped my fingers while my head was lowered. I can't look at any of them right, cause I might end up saying something I will regret.
"This is all a mistake. It is a terrible mistake. I need to leave now." I scurried my way out of their midst and went out of the mansion to finally let go of the breath I had held in for so long.
That was intense and it almost ripped my heart out.
I looked back at the building and saw him watching me. Damien. I am sure he was my stalker, seeing how he was staring at me. It was the same way the stalker stared at me too.
I need to leave, but this is the only job I could lean on. I can't leave even though I was so eager to do so. I need to get back to the building. I let out a deep sigh and went in, only to meet Jared waiting for me. Where was Damien? I just saw him when I stood outside.
"Please I need this opportunity. I need to go back to the orientation. I need this job."
Jared stepped forward and put his hands in his pocket. "You know you don't have to work, right? As long as you are with me, I will give you everything you want." He said in a whisper and leaned closer, but I was quick to move back.
"Sir, I need to do this on my own with nobody's help. I don't need you stopping me, please." I pleaded and he stared at me for a couple of seconds before he stepped back with a few steps.
"You haven't changed, have you?"
I finally raised my gaze to his with a frown playing across my face. Why was he acting like nothing ever happened? Why was he acting like I was a stranger who he just met and he never ruined my life five years ago?
"You haven't changed either," I answered with an eye roll.
He smirked and pulled out a deep sigh, "Yes I never did, and that also means what I felt for you never changed too."
I rolled my eyes and looked away. What did I mean to him? He left me five years ago and never returned. I tried reaching out but he ignored me. My life was completely ruined by him.
"I need to leave to go do what I am here for, sir."
He smirked and bent a bit until his face was close to mine, "I made a mistake five years ago. I let you go, but now, I can't make that same mistake. What would you do? You are stuck with me."
He took his gaze to my neck where the stalker marked me. There was a grin playing on his lips and that meant one thing.
I gasped out loud, but before I could speak about it, he held my hand in his. "I should have marked you five years ago when we both found out we were mates, but that was a foolish mistake on my part. But right now, you can't escape any longer. I have rectified my mistake. I marked you already. You are mine now."
My heart skipped a beat at his revelation. He marked me. He was the stalker and not just that, he marked me forcefully.
"You!" Before I could control my hand movement, my palm got connected to his face, hitting him as hard as I could.
I hit him. Oh my goodness!
I covered my mouth in the realization of what I had done. I forgot who he was for a minute and allowed my anger to take control of me.
"I....."
He raised his face and my breath seized. He doesn't have the face that says, I am okay with you slapping me. He was growling at me with his eyes turned bright red.
I stepped back but got stopped by the wall behind me. I faced me, growling and all I saw in his eyes was the urge to send me six feet down the earth.
He moved closer to me and raised his hand. Before his hand got connected to my face, I shut my eyes tight. I waited for the pain, a slap, or his claws going deep into my skin.
EVELYN'S POVI wished I was dead.Maybe that was a little too much but, it wasn't too far off. I wish my life was different. I wish I had my mom and my dad, and everything was how it used to be.But it can't be. That life is gone. Most days, I wonder how people could be so happy. They seemed to have everything: perfect lives, perfect families, perfect loves. For me, nothing was perfect. My life was nothing but a series of unfortunate events. It was like the moon goddess herself had cursed me. Some days, I believed she had. As if she’d looked down from her silver throne in the sky and decided to take whatever joy I had left, one piece at a time. What was even worse was that I thought I deserved it. Maybe it was some twisted kind of repayment for everything that had happened over the years. I had no one to blame except myself.“We're almost there, ma'am,” I heard the taxi driver say.He snapped me back to reality and I caught him staring at me through the rearview mirror. I looked away.
EVELYN'S POVI closed the door behind me and locked it twice but, I didn't really trust the old locks. I kept an ear out for any suspicious movements but the feeling of being watched was gone.I stared at the note and the letter. The letter said my parents didn’t die in an accident. The words were burned into my brain already. It had been years since anyone had mentioned my parents’ death. Everyone had moved on, assuming it was an unfortunate accident. I had never truly believed it. Well, not entirely and now, someone else seemed to know the truth. But who?The second letter was just as confusing. It was an employment offer from the Lycan King's mansion, requesting me to serve as one of the housekeepers. I remembered vaguely applying and knowing I wouldn't get the job because of my conviction. But, I was surprised. I didn't know who sent it but the letter had an official seal and, a formal signature. There were precise instructions about when and where to go when I arrived.Everything
Evelyn’s POVI opened my eyes to the bright lights shining so bright in them and was forced to shut back. My head hurt so much and my neck wasn't accepting. EVENLY’s POVI pulled out a groan from my lips as I forced my heavy eyes open. I was in my room and not a strange place I had woken up to, yesterday.I had a dream about seeing a man who was stalking me. Or was it not a dream? In my dream, I had collapsed and lost consciousness outside when I had an encounter with him.How the hell did I get back inside? My mind was playing so many games with me I don't know if I had a dream or if it happened, cause it felt so real. Well, some bad dreams feel like that. And for the stalker, maybe it was because I thought about him last night.I groaned and rubbed my tired neck, but got a sharp sting. "Ouch!" I cried and pulled my hand away, only to see blood. My eyes widened, as I jumped out of the bed and ran to the window. It was there. It wasn't a dream after all. It was just as I remembered.
