ONE WEEK LATER.

Hayden had been very attentive to me. It was sweet to see how much he cared about my well-being and our child’s. In fact, today he was coming to pick me up from work to go out for lunch because, according to him, I wasn't eating well.

When I left work, he was already waiting for me. I smiled a little, even though I couldn’t see him, because he was inside the car; I knew he was looking at me.

“You look so happy,” Matteo said to me.

I glared at him and walked away. I hurried to the car and got in. Hayden looked at me.

“Do you think Matteo will be upset about how we’re handling things?” he asked.

I was shocked by that question.

“Matteo and I never had anything. What I told you was a lie. I thought that was clear,” I said.

Hayden started laughing, which made me very angry.

“Please, Kat, I know you were with him. Debbie and Nora saw you go into a hotel with him while we were together, so don’t lie anymore, please. I really want to handle this well, and I won’t tolerate lies
