Sixty seven

EVE'S POV

After Dickson asked, more like ordered me to leave his office, I went back to my department and trudged to my desk in low spirits.

I was worried that I might have offended him. My earlier confidence to set things straight was gone. In the aftermath, I felt that I had been too brazen, and that I never should have allowed my fears to take charge.

He must have found it so inappropriate of me to ask him such a question. Just because he showed concern and acted promptly whenever I faced an obstacle, didn't mean he had intentions similar to my former department director. Maybe he really was just very diligent at his job.

The next day in the morning, I was heading for the elevator when I noticed Dickson standing there, waiting for one too. Glad to get a chance to apologise to him, I hurried forward.

He noticed me immediately when I stopped in front of him, and I noticed how his eyes widened instantly.

"Good morning, sir", I greeted, my heart hammering nervously in my chest.
