Chapter 4

Celene's POV

I could feel perspiration rivering down my back as I glimpsed the menance in his eyes. He looked like he was about to explode soon. And was it just me, or did he just say I belonged to him?

They scuttled around and got the chains off me, shivering with fear as they avoided him.

"Alpha Mondrian, how did—how did you find Ella?" Valerie stuttered.

He sneered. "You know, for some moment, I almost assumed you tried to kill your own daughter!" He paused as everyone gasped in shock, and a scowl appeared on Valerie's face.

"I was just kidding!" He laughed, low and husky. "She was caught in the trap your pack warriors set out for rogues. I saved her."

Valerie gritted her teeth as she managed a tight smile. "Thank you so much. Uhm... We are sorry for putting you through so much trouble. The judgement is hereby cancelled." She announced.

Mondrian suddenly held his hand up. "No!" He shook his head. "That wasn't exactly the way I imagined you would say it. You should apologise to her. You just accused her wrongly!"

Valeria exhaled sharply as she glared daggers at me. "Well, I believe she had hands in putting Ella in those traps. This is not her first time doing it. That runt even killed her own mother!"

I gritted my teeth as her words sank in. Angry breath rippled down my lungs. How could she be brazen enough to lie against me?

Alpha Mondrian gritted his teeth. "I'm not going to force you to apologise to her, but you said you saw that lady's ring in your daughter's blood. I would love to see the blood!"

A frown creased Valerie's forehead as she clenched her fist in exasperation. "Alpha Mondrian, this is my pack's business, and it's not exactly your concern. You came here for the promised treaty. I would love---"

"I will take it that you're declaring war between the White Fire Kingdom and Violet Pack."

"No, Alpha Modrian. Definitely not!" She shook her head rapidly.

He trembled with rage. "Then you probably don't get the point. That woman is supposed to be the treaty, so she belongs to me, but you just accused her wrongly. Offending equals offending me, and you should apologise on your knees."

The whole hall shook with tension as silence took it by force. Without warning, Valerie fell to her knees with a loud thud.

"I'm sorry, Celene. It was a blind mistake!"

I was too shocked to even utter anything, and my knees went weak. The Lycan king was no one to be trifled with, and I just did that, and now he was going to deal with me.

He was glaring right at Valerie, and I could only imagine that if I was ever under such intense pressure, I would shatter into tiny shards.

I cowered as I heard his retreating footsteps. One after the other, everyone left the hall, and I was left alone once again.

Dusk had fallen outside, and I was still in the judgement room. I was feeling numb, and I had cried so much that my eyes couldn't even measure any more tears. Slowly, I drifted into a deep slumber.

****

The harsh fingers of the sun played on my face, and I slowly peeled my eyes open, adjusting them to the brightness.

What the hell!? I had just spent the night in the judgement room. And just like always, no one would have noticed. Even if I died, no one would still notice. Not even Dad.

To him, I was a lowly omega with the filthy blood of my omega mother. He wasn't always like that when Mom was alive, but things had suddenly changed. I found Mom in the pool of her own blood. I was accused of killing her, and he suddenly brought Valerie and Ella into the palace.

Ever since then, my life has been a deep mess. Valerie turned me into a slave and Ella into a punching bag until I learnt to become wicked myself and started retaliating. However, it had made Dad hate me, and he had completely distanced himself from me.

But now, there was no need to brood over that. Valerie had just shown me to what extent her wickedness could go. It was only right if I taught her a little lesson. I sprang to my feet and started towards the door.

Luckily enough, it wasn't locked. I raced down to my room, and once in, I took a shower and put on some fresh clothes, feeling revived.

"Where have you been since?" A voice sounded at the corner, and my heart froze.

I turned in time to see the mischievous smirk spreading across his face as he stood up from the shadows and got into the light.

It was him. Alpha Mondrian. Since when has he been here?

I swallowed hard, keeping a defensive stance. "What are you doing in my room?"

He tilted his head, biting into his lower lips slowly and provocatively. "I don't know either, but shouldn't you have smelt my presence or something?"

I avoided his gaze. "Well, maybe that's because I'm wolfless. I can't smell people's scent!"

He shook his head. "No, you're not. I felt your wolf yesterday. You're lying!"

Panic gripped me at his words. Did he really feel my wolf? Was it because he was a Lycan? He suddenly started closing the gap between us, and I instinctively took a few steps backwards until I hit my back against the wall.

He trapped me with his body as his eyes stared back at me in the most provocative way possible. Those mesmerising brown orbs peered deep into my soul as his left hand hovered just above my head and his right hand wrapped around my waist.

"Now, you can't get away from me, little wolf. Do I look like I will harm you?"

His words sent a nervous shiver passing over my skin, and my pulse hammered so hard that it left me breathless.

But I'd be damned if I didn't know he wouldn't harm me. I could just feel it. I knew I should be scared of him; everyone was. But I just wasn't. I felt safe with him, which was even weirder because the look in his eyes suggested I shouldn't be.

"I won't bother asking why you're lying about your wolf. I only came to get the thank-you I deserved. I saved your life, remember?"

I blinked rapidly, still avoiding his gaze. "Thank you, Alpha Modrian, for saving my life!"

He burst out laughing. "I didn't say I wanted you to say it. There are so many ways to thank me, don't you think? And why do you keep avoiding my gaze? Do I have that much effect on you?"

His breath teased my ear, and I checked the urge to shiver. What did he mean by so many ways to thank him?

"I have no idea what you're insinuating, but I definitely am not ready to understand either. Please leave. You clearly said you were disappointed in the treaty you were given yesterday, so why are you suddenly interested now? And I belong to you? Maybe in your dreams!"

He cocked his head in amusement, clearly enjoying himself. "I didn't say I was interested." His eyes suddenly exuded a murderous glint.

"I just think we have some unfinished business together. You walked out on me yesterday, and the last time someone did that, I kept their brains and intestines in my kingdom's museum."
