I spot a filled jug on the table, “I think water is fine for now, thank you,” I say to bide time. “This wine here is perfect Carlos.,” Noah adds, “We will need some time to go over the menu, I’ll let you know when we are ready to order,” he smiles at the boy and Carlos walks away bowing his head in respect. Noah grabs the wine and reaches for my glass but looks to me for approval, I nod and he pours us both a glass. “So,” he says as he lifts his glass to take a sip, “What was this favour you wanted to ask me?” Back to business. I almost forgot about that, almost. “I wanted to request a level of discretion when it comes to, well, me,” I confess. “I’m not sure who knows I’m turned or how much they know but I would appreciate if I could have some sense of privacy,” I’m hoping he understands, this is a whole new life for me and I still don’t know anything about it. Learning in front of an audience isn’t easy especially when things can get dangerous.
“Everyone is entitled to some privacy, aren’t they? Why didn’t you include that in the contract?” He asks genuinely interested. I was going to but then thought I would ask and see his reaction instead. “I wanted to ask you for privacy rather than demand it,” I explained, “Plus I understand how unstable the unknown can be, first-hand.” His brows furrowed, giving him that older look and I take a sip of wine feeling nervous under his gaze. He watches and waits til I put my glass down, “At the moment, only a small circle of my pack know of what you are, Dr. Zane and Angelo included. The rest know you are here requesting to become a part of the pack. We have only told them you are a lone wolf, that you’ve lost your pack and your family to death and are now in need of a home,” he studies me waiting for a reaction. That’s surprising and sparks some new questions, “What is the difference between a ‘lone wolf’ and ‘rogue’, you knew I wasn’t one when we were introduced,” I ask him. “A rogue chooses to leave their pack or is forced out, a lone wolf loses their pack to, unfortunate circumstances,” he explained. “Why didn’t you tell them about me?” I wonder. He takes another sip of his wine, “Let’s order our food first, we have all night Akira,” the side of his mouth turns up. I bite the inside of my cheek to hide my smile and pick up the menu. “Obviously I want the biggest steak there is,” I mumble and look at the sides they have, “Oh! and definitely some fries and this pasta salad too,” I put the menu down and look over to Noah with the biggest smile on my face, food is 100% the key to my heart, now and then. He smiles in return, “Anything else catch your eye?” He’s so handsome it hurts, but I will not fall into that trap. I pick up my glass and shake my head, “Nope, that’s good.. for now,” and I take a sip. He picks up his glass as well, “Any other questions for me?” I have so many I don’t even know where to start. “How do you find your mate?” I have no clue why I started with that. He takes a long sip from his glass, indicating this is a sore spot for him I’m assuming. “I don’t have a mate yet,” he starts, “But from what has been told to us since we were young was that it’s instant. You can sense your mate as soon as they are around you, even by smell. Apparently, once you lock eyes it sort of clicks into place and you automatically feel the bond. And this only takes place after you have come of age, usually after you turn 18.” He stares at me and I once again get lost in the sea of his eyes. I take a deep breath and I go to pour both of us another glass of wine but he reaches the bottle first and does it himself. I take a sip from my glass, “Does a turned wolf get a mate?” I ask nervously. His eyebrows furrow, “We don’t know, there’s not much recorded on Turned wolves, they are a rarity,” he explains. “Oh, well I guess that’s for the best, I’m a bit of a handful,” I say awkwardly trying to hide the disappointment I didn’t realize I would have. “If you find one after 18, why haven’t you?” I deflect. He sighs, “I haven’t done much travelling, my mate is clearly not a part of my pack, it’s actually unusual for a wolf my age to not have found their mate,” he takes another large gulp of his wine, “and every pack needs their Luna, so over the past 5 years I’ve been proposed with many, uh, options I guess you could say, for a chosen mate.” Immediately I’m intrigued, “A chosen mate? You can do that? Wait, what’s a Luna?” I feel like I’ve heard of this before. Memories of the older couple from the last pack try to reach to the surface of my memory. “If Alpha were to be a King, Luna would be the Queen of the pack. They take on many responsibilities for the pack as well,” he explains in layman’s terms for me. “A pack is stronger with their Luna, that’s why it’s important for me to find one,” he says. “Ah, that makes sense, I guess.” I say.Our food arrives and confuses me because I don’t remember ordering, I look to Noah and he just taps his temple indicating he clearly mind linked our orders. The smell is ridiculously intoxicating, I swear I can feel Star drooling through the bond. Now my eyes have hearts in them. I eat everything probably way too fast to be good for my body. Once finished I lean back with my hand on my stomach, “Oh my god, that was amazing,” I rave. Noah laughs, “I thought you’d like it here. It’s the best restaurant in our town.” Carlos comes back to clear our plates and drops off a desert menu as well. Noah refills our glasses and looks to me, “Any more questions?” He asks. “Yes, of course. But now I’m not sure anyone will have the answers I need since my “kind” is so rare,” I say with air quotes. “I guess, I just want to know more about being a wolf, clearly some things are different but I can’t be that different can I? I mean I still shift and… obviously still have that heat thing. My senses are e
I stare at myself in the mirror, I look good. Apart from my scars of course. “You’re beautiful Akira, and maybe with the more information we get I can learn to heal you fully,” Star says. I wonder if I really would want my scars healed now. I feel like they show I’m a survivor, which makes me hate them a little less. “You are a survivor,” Star says. “We are survivors,” I add. “I wouldn’t be here without you, and you went through just as much as me,” I sigh. It’s the part of my story I’ll never forget, but it doesn’t mean I’m going to let it define me. The more I learn about my life, the more I’ll be in control of it. There are villains in every story, but I won’t give them more than a chapter in mine. I quickly use the washroom and let the cold water run on my hands for a while trying to cool down before going back out there. As I sit down back at the table I notice there’s a desert in front of my seat. The tiramisu looks absolutely delicious and has my full attention. “I ordered the
I was brought into the Alphas office by his Beta and some other pack members, immediately I was stunned at not only how young he looked but how familiar. I’m not sure where I’ve seen him from, but it must be from my past life. He stares at me, hard. It seems as though he’s upset, but I’m not sure. “Who are you and state your business on our pack grounds” he says, not asking. “My name is Akira, and I would like to join your pack”, I kept my head held high, hoping he sees strength instead of desperation. The room grows quiet for far too long. I can see him sniff the air, “Not a rouge… what pack are you from?” he asks. Here we go.. “I’ve never been a part of a pack actually,” I hesitate to continue but decide honesty right now is my best option, “I was never born a wolf, I was turned.” There it was. I knew I was different but the faces of everyone in this room grew cold and confused. Assessing me as a threat I assume, because I’m as unknown to them as they were to me. Understandable.
I stare at him and decide I better just start talking, I need a pack. I can’t survive like this on my own, that much has been proven. “I was on my way home from a shift at the bar I worked at, not exactly in a great area but money is money right…. And well some drunk guy came up to me… I turned him down and of course he didn’t like that at all.” I said watching his reactions but he had absolutely none. He just sat there waiting. So I went on. “He was so strong. I couldn’t do anything, all the fight I had did nothing to him. He brought me to the back through the forested area and…” this was the hard part to say, “He took what he wanted from me and well, all I remember next was pain, so much pain I turned numb. I was alone in a forest beaten, bloody and dying.” He still just stared, no emotion. So I did the same. “And then”, he finally said. I didn’t want to continue, but if I had any chance of joining this pack I had to. The fear of what happened at the last pack was burning in my ch
I stared at him for a long moment, because my stubbornness from my human life seemed to transfer over into this one. “He wanted to run tests on me, see what I truly was.” Half of the truth but should be enough, I hoped. “So he took me prisoner instead and killed the couple that helped me, using the excuse that I was an enemy and that they gave me inside information. Which they didn’t. And I am not.” I said with so much anger. He stared at me but his eyes flashed down then back up. “Retract your claws Akira”, I looked down, sure enough I was digging my claws into the arms of the chair I was sitting on. I retracted them and went on with the story after I took a deep breath. “I escaped and ended up in your territory a month later. Your pack members caught me at your border and brought your Beta to me. Obviously you decided this interrogation wasn’t optional and I was brought here after trying to explain I am not a threat.” I lifted one eye brow to him. “Is that enough for you Alpha?” I
It was small, cabin like, just one big room with four walls, and a bathroom off to the side - absolutely no complaints from me. I have a bed, a small kitchen set up and a dresser for the five pieces of clothing I happened to have in my bag, which thankfully they gave back after obviously searching through it. I was so wired that I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep, then there was a knock at my door before it opened up and a random girl walked in holding papers and a serious scowl on her face. “This is your contract, and these are some clothes from our donation pile.” She threw a bag down I didn’t notice she had and then walked out. Clearly I wasn’t making friends here but I do not care. I don’t need friends, I need information. I picked up the contract immediately and looked it over. To summarize, it included a schedule that I couldn’t defer from or it would be seen as treason, I’d have some one always with me escorting me everywhere I go and if I am seen alone it will constitute as
I woke up screaming, red eyes burned into my mind plaguing my dreams, it felt so real like I was being torn apart all over again, bite after bite after bite, I felt it all over again. I couldn’t stop screaming seeing red eyes even with mine open. The door flew open and a man ran in ready to fight. He stopped when he saw me in bed, quickly assessing the situation. He checked the bathroom then walked back to me, clearly annoyed. “What the fuck Akira, I thought someone was killing you?!” The guy yelled throwing his hands up questioning me. “Someone was,” I muttered, rubbing a hand down my face. I threw the sheet off and got out of bed, glancing at the alarm clock as I walked to the kitchen, 4:36am. Great I could have slept for 24 more mintutes, too bad. I grabbed a glass of water and chugged it and heard the guy breathe “holy shit” then turned around realizing he was checking me out. Not checking me out in the ogling kind of way, he was staring at all my scars. I have claw marks, bite
I lean forward, as much as I can without touching him and close my eyes while I answer. I might as well be honest with him, I don’t want to jeopardize this opportunity. “Every time I sleep I dream about the night that man attacked me, I see his glowing red eyes and I swear I can feel it all over again. It’s so.. real.” When I open my eyes again I see he’s taken a step back and his eyes are squinted, as if he’s thinking it over. Then he’s back to looking at all my scars. He reaches forward his thumb is tracing over the claw marks on my shoulder but not in an intimate way, more out of curiosity, “These?” He asks. “Well it’s pretty obvious isn’t it?” I answer a little too honestly. I want to shove the other foot into my mouth but then he smirks and grabs my wrist, which at the moment is up at my face because I instantly covered my mouth once I said that. He takes it away from my mouth and studies my wrist “These?” He runs his other thumb over the scars there. “I always wanted a barbed wi

I can’t be distracted by this, I have a million questions that need to be answered. Plus, I’m not ready for anything related to feelings or intimacy. His eyes are burning into my skin, I can feel them move along my body, he clears his throat. “Are you ready to go?” He asks. “Yes, I- uh, where do I put all my things?” I say fumbling my words. “Leave it, I’ll have them sent to your cabin. There’s a car waiting outside to drive us to the restaurant.” He says and walks towards the door. We walk in silence to the car, my heels clicking against the floor the only sound. He opens the door and extends his hand to help me in. “Oh we’re using niceties now are we?” I smile up at him as I take his hand and slide in. “Think you can last the whole night?” He questions raising his eye brow with a knowing smirk at his innuendo, then shuts the door before I can reply. Good thing because I’m too shocked to comment on that one. “Is he flirting or is it just me Star?” She laughs, “I thi
After a moment he goes back to taking the samples from my bite marks then blood from my arm. He cleans everything up and heads to the lab to put everything away and starts typing on the computer again. “That’s all we need for today. When the results are in we will let you know. I do want to tell you we will need samples from your wolf as well, just so you can prepare for that however you may need,” he informs me. “Thank you,” is all I can think to say. I don’t know how to feel right now after all that he’s said. I jump down from the exam bed when the scowly, tall blonde girl walks in with what looks like two dry cleaning bags and two shoe boxes. Shes dressed up like she’s going somewhere special, and doesn’t even look in my direction. “Here’s everything you’ve asked for Alpha, is there anything else I can do for you?” She says obviously flirting with Noah, it’s clear from her tone of voice and the emphasis she put on ‘anything’ but he doesn’t even turn away from the screen
We walked pretty far in silence, passing a couple buildings along the way, but for the most part everything was pretty much spaced out two football fields apart with nothing between. The cabin must be located close to the border of this pack’s territory, not like I’d know anything about it but I felt like it was a pretty decent assumption. “Hey Noah?” He looks at me from the side of his eye and waits for me to continue, “I really want steak, I’ve been sleeping for 3 days, I’m starving and I want steak, so is there any way that could happen?” I pasted on a sweet smile, and blinked my eyelashes up at him. He looks away smiling, “Steak huh?” He lifts his eye brow and looks back at me. “I think I can make that happen,” he says and winks at me. Star is already drooling. I guess she’s excited for that as much as I am. “Wait, can you taste what I eat?” I ask her. “In a sense,” she says, “Just as I can feel your pain.” I think too hard on that and realize Noah’s been talking to me. My eyes g
I walk out to the destroyed cabin and find another bag of clothes waiting on the bed. I’m happy to finally have some clean clothes but I wish they were my own. “Beggars can’t be choosers,” Star says. “Any other words of wisdom almighty wolf?” I ask her. “Yes as a matter of fact, little mind reader I do. But now I won’t share them with you.” She huffs. “What did you just call me?” She doesn’t answer. “Star!” I yell out loud. “You read their minds, I’m not sure how yet but I’ve been thinking on it. And it reminded me of what happened back in the cell, how we heard the pack members going over plans, exit routes, torture practices, all of it.” I wince at the reminder of the things I don’t ever want think about again. “Your eyes were swollen closed, and all you were thinking about was how to get out and what they were going to do next,” she continued. “Star please get to the point,” the memory was too painful to look back on. “Why would they say those things out loud
“Star what do you think? This concerns you as well.” She’s quiet for a bit, “I’m not sure I want to give all information we have of us to them but we might also learn a lot from the transaction. I believe they have information we should know that they haven’t shared,” she says. I agree with her, plus I don’t think we’re going to get a better deal than this. I look to him, “Okay Noah, you’ve got yourself a deal,” I say and everyone stills immediately. Looking from me to Noah and Noah to me. He just smiles, the kind of smile a man at the poker table shares with his opponent after calling all in. I feel like I just made a deal with the devil and uncertainty crawls through my chest. “I’ll have the papers drawn up then,” he agrees. He looks to the man and woman behind him, that were called as backup, and they leave shortly after. Clearly a conversation I was not allowed to be a part of. I reach out for his emotions to see if I can get any information from it but I can’t feel an
“What the hell happened in here?,” Ang says and sweeps the room and bathroom as per usual, but this time it definitely makes sense. The doctor is by my side in an instant picking up the IV stand and rehanging the bag. “Put that thing in me again, I dare you,” I glare at him. My claws digging through the blankets into the mattress. He takes a step back and lets go of the tube with the needle attached, “Akira, we’re only here to help, there’s nothing in this that can hurt you. If you don’t want it that’s completely fine, I will not force anything,” he says. I retract my claws. Two more pack members join us in the cabin, I’m guessing they called for backup. Understandable. I’m a wild, turned wolf they know absolutely nothing about. And clearly neither do I. “Star did we do this?” I ask her. “I’m not sure but I think we did, that blinding light Akira, that was from us. It may have caused this destruction,” she hesitates, “I feel your power more than ever now. It’s strong. It makes me st
