Beginning of Dark Days

Date: 19th April, 1475

Lenn walked around the room tensed.

"Whom are you waiting for Lenn?" Ada asked as she entered the room.

"Messenger Adi, to give updates on the war.  Past days, I was able to witness the battle being with the King before he ordered me to come back to Helenton." Lenn replied.

"I know the situation is out of our hand now. All we can do is pray to god." Ada said.

"I know Adi. If only I had made the weapons stronger, if I was there to help them." Lenn said in a lower voice. He was frustrated at himself for being unable to help them.

"Don't blame yourself. You did what you could do." Ada solaced.

Soon a man in a red cloak came into their sight. Lenn hurried towards him.

"What's happening there?" He asked curiously.

"Sir Lenn, it's bad news." The messenger said in undertone.

Lenn stopped on his track. He looked at him blankly. He couldn't figure out how to respond to him.

The messenger continued, "Sir Lenn, after you returned, the situation got worse. The Dark lord used all his strength to destroy the traps laid on the ground. His soldiers and knights both were set free to attack.

The Dark Lord was leading the troop. Behind him was the order of Knights followed by the soldiers. Witches covered the region above him, attacking the soldiers aerially. This time they arrived with a red powder which stunned the soldiers for a few moments.

In those few minutes either they slit their neck or set fire on them. The Dark Lord himself mass killed the soldiers at a time using his powerful witchery. The needle guns were effective on witches but our soldiers died before they even shot one of them.

Half of our soldiers left the battle ground cowardly. Other half sacrificed their life. It was a massacre. The battle ground turned into a graveyard.

Soon the Dark Lord encountered our King. He used his witchery on him and killed him within no time. He conquered the battle."

"Half of our troops left the battle ground?" Lenn asked furiously.

"Yes sir Lenn. That was something even the King hadn't contemplated." He replied sadly.

"COWARDS!" Lenn yelled. Anger raged in him as he imagined the troop running away from the battle ground.

"Calm down Lenn" Ada came forward trying to calm his raging anger.

"Bob was right." Lenn murmured.

"What did he say?" Ada frowned, wondering what Lenn was speaking about.

"Darkness is looming." Lenn repeated his words.

"Don't give up hope. We will fight against the Dark Lord." She said, looking at destroyed Lenn.

Listening to Ada, Lenn went into deep thoughts.

"Yes we will fight. For our sake. For our freedom. For our air." He said strongly. His eyes held fire as he looked straight into Ada's eyes.

Strategies work if the plans are perfect they say, but no. They work if they want to work. The battle had left scars on people's hearts. Scars of fear.

"Sir Lenn?"

"Yes? Who is this?" Lenn asked as he saw an unknown face in front of his door.

"Myself the magistrate of this village." The man introduced himself.

"How may I help you?" Lenn asked, looking confused at the magistrate.

"Can I enter the house sir Lenn? I don't want to get caught." The man said nervously.

"Sure." Lenn moved aside, making way for the magistrate.

"Tell me, what happened?" Lenn asked politely.

"Sir, myself Reev. I want to give information about something to you." Reev whispered nervously.

"What kind of information?" Lenn asked.

"About the Dark Lord."

"What about him?"

"As you already know, there have been ruckus caused by the black witches. And when complained to the Dark Lord, he pressed the matter. He himself being a witch doesn't care about anything."

"I know about this Reev. Is there something else you want to inform me about?" Lenn asked.

"Sir, he and the other powerful witches are planning something. Something very huge. I don't know what it is about. Maybe a massacre to create energy." Reev said, wiping the sweat formed on his forehead.

"How can I help you with that?" Lenn asked, bemused by the him.

"Sir, we all know about your profound witchery skills. Please help sir. I beg you to help us. Only you can stand against him sir." Reev begged him, holding his legs.

"Get up Reev. I will try my best to stop whatever the plan is. I don't promise you or anybody but for sure I will give my hundred percent." Lenn gave his word.

"Master Lenn, did you get the news?" Bob asked at the breakfast table.

"What news are you talking about, Bob?" Ada asked.

Bob wiped sweat from his forehead and started thinking how to describe it. He quickly ran towards the hall and came back with a newspaper.

Lenn took the newspaper and read.

'Who will give justice?

The man in his early twenties was found hung on a tree at the premises of Helenton village. His one eye socket was empty and the other one popped out. The front side of the body showed all the internal organs as the flesh was removed.

It seems that the man was alive when he was being tortured. The identity of the man was revealed after one of the villagers agreed to identify the body.

Reev, the magistrate of this village. It is said that he was murdered because he leaked significant information. To whom and what was the information is yet to be revealed.'

"Lenn, what is it?" Ada asked, looking at the horror stuck face of him.

"Reev died. Specifically, he was murdered." Lenn mumbled.

"What!" Ada exclaimed. She took the newspaper and read it by herself, unable to believe Lenn's words. It was only a few days ago he was in their house talking to Lenn.

"He is remorseless Ada. We alone can't survive against his powers." Lenn mentioned.

"I will try my best to get support from the people." Lenn proposed.

"What if we don't get enough support?" Ada asked in concern.

"I will have to drop the plan and have to let go as it goes." Lenn stated.

I feel defeated. I don't have the strength to put my memories in the diary anymore. I can't see the suffering anymore. The way people living here under the Dark Lord is heartbreaking.

Warriors who died during the war in order to give their family a better life, members of the family are now saying we should have died along with them as well. Living is death to them.

Cowardly people who backoff during the battle, saying life is better than death, which insane will make them realize that it is better to die once than to die everyday?

Ray of hope has ceased here in Helenton and I am sure it's the same in all other villages as well. There's no good news regarding the fall of the Dark Lord. His torment has been increasing day by day.

My life is now just me and Ada and nothing else. This is probably my last diary entry. Can't put or write gore any more.

Hoping for some miracle to happen. Will hope to see the beautiful morning and colorful dawn of Helenton once again...
