Chapter Nineteen: Unconditional Love

The urge to smoke is overwhelming, but instead I settle for mint gum I bought on the way out from the mall.

If not for Henry, I'd be at some bar on a night like this.

I am not upset with what my ‘friends’ said; it's more that the brown-haired guard heard them, and he might spill everything to Christopher.

I don’t want to look any more pathetic in his eyes.

Go~oood! Must he know more of me?

I groan inwardly as the heavy night wind tousles my hair. I can smell rain, so any second now, there will be a downpour.

The gum in my mouth is tasteless now, so I remove it, place it on a saucer and grab the strawberry milk box.

It’s a pack Henry likes, so I picked six for him, but at this rate, I'll have to do his snack shopping later.

The sweet milk instantly tastes sour on my tongue due to the mint contrast, so I frown.

“Ugh…what an unsightly combination.”

With a sigh, I stare out at the front courtyard’s fountain, watching the water spill into the reservoir. It looks very pretty, especially now
