chapter 9

The next day at the office, Lucas received the investigative report from his assistant, Edward.

"How is it?" he asked, looking at Edward.

"The girl you mentioned, the guest of Mr. Bosman and mistakenly entered your room, should have entered the same room, but on the seventh floor, not the eleventh!" Edward reported from his investigation.

"The CCTV footage in the hotel room corridor shows that the girl was escorted by her own aunt; it seems she was sold by her aunt due to debt issues with a loan shark!" Edward continued.

"Then, where is she now?" Lucas asked, feeling appalled at defiling a very unfortunate girl.

Truly pitiful! A cruel aunt willing to sell her own niece to settle a debt.

"The girl has run away!" Edward replied.

Lucas was startled upon hearing his assistant's answer, feeling uneasy in his heart.

"Where did she run to?" Lucas asked, trying to stay calm.

Wherever she runs, she will be found! Lucas thought.

"When investigated, it was found that the girl fled after leaving your room, Sir, and her whereabouts are unknown; she seems to have run away out of fear of being oppressed and sold off again by her aunt!" Edward answered.

Lucas clenched his fists tightly, feeling angry to hear that the unfortunate girl was being oppressed by her own aunt.

"Find her until we locate her; I will protect her. There is something I need to tell her!" Lucas ordered Edward.

"Yes, Sir!" Edward nodded obediently and then left Lucas's office.

Lucas stayed silent, contemplating Julia, who had cried and pleaded for mercy.

Lucas had made a decision; he would take responsibility for what he had done to this unknown girl.

During work, Lucas was unfocused on his tasks, the face of the unknown girl constantly on his mind.

He couldn't wait to meet the girl who had unsettled him.

"Sir, this is the report on the hotel development project from Director Andi!" a beautiful woman entered Lucas's office.

The woman placed the report on Lucas's desk.

Without responding to the beautiful woman, Lucas was too preoccupied with the file in his hands and thoughts of the girl who had started to disturb his peace.

"Sir," a gentle voice sounded close to him, bringing Lucas back from his reverie.

He turned to his side and saw his secretary standing right next to him.

"Why are you here?" Lucas asked coldly.

"You seemed to be daydreaming while working, so you didn't hear what I said. I wanted to help lighten your load," the Secretary said sweetly while smiling.

"No need," Lucas replied flatly, then refocused on what he was examining.

The woman's hand slowly grasped both of Lucas's broad shoulders.

She tried to massage Lucas.

Lucas's body suddenly shivered as he felt the Secretary's touch on his shoulders.

"What are you doing?!" Lucas snapped angrily.

He stood up from his chair, his face showing anger as he glared at his Secretary.

"I just wanted to help you relax, Sir. You seemed very tense!" the Secretary explained.

"Get out!" Lucas sharply reprimanded.

The Secretary's face immediately turned red at Lucas's stern treatment.

"Excuse me, Sir," the woman said softly, her face looking sad as she was dismissed by her boss.

"Next time, don't be presumptuous. You are rude to your superiors!" Lucas sharply reprimanded his Secretary before leaving his office.

The beautiful woman could only sigh deeply; she had admired her boss for a long time, but it was very challenging to please him.

Rubbing his shoulder touched by his Secretary, Lucas felt irritated for not being respected as the boss.

He was a CEO capable of closing a company in seconds and detested anyone trying to flatter him to get his attention.

It was truly audacious to touch his precious body without permission; they were daring to mess with him.

Lucas continued with his work.

Later in the evening, Edward reported back with the results of his investigation.

And the outcome did not please Lucas; it only made him more uneasy.

Edward couldn't find the girl who had captured Lucas's emotions.

There was no trace of her to be found.

Lucas remembered giving the girl a check.

Undoubtedly, the girl must have used the money Lucas gave her to escape.

Lucas regretted giving her the check; he should have kept her with him at that time.

"Continue the search until found. Have several people search for her in different cities. Where could she go? She only has her aunt as family; it shouldn't be hard to find her!" Lucas said in a panic.

"Very well, Sir!" Edward answered and went to carry out Lucas's instructions.

Leaning back in his chair, Lucas closed his eyes to calm his very tense emotions.

There was a sense of worry that he might not find the girl who had unsettled his feelings.
