I accompanied Mia the whole day, then walked her home when we were done.
“You're not going to come in?” She said when we reached the streets to the house.
She always asks this question whenever I accompany her home, though she knows the answer but she still hopes I would go in.
I shook my head “Not today”
She sighed, expecting that as my answer.
I smiled “Go inside”
“See you later Lee” she said softly. I watched her enter the house before turning away.
Eclipse Lounge was louder than expected. I weaved my way through the crowd and went to the counter.
I felt someone tap me “ You're the new kid” I nodded, not comfortable with the word kid.
“I'm Gregg, the owner of the place” he handed me a black button-up shirt.”Wear this”
“Where do I change?”
“The locker room”
I blinked at him
“Oh, you're new here.” He pointed towards the back. “Once you reach the back, keep moving forward. You'll see a locker room sign.”
I nodded and went in the direction he pointed at and quickly changed into the shirt. Gregg told me that since I was a newbie, he'll let me start with the easy ones this week, serving drinks to the customers so that I can adjust, before finally moving into the part of entertaining guests next week.
I tied an apron around my waist and stepped into the chaos. The first few minutes were overwhelming, shouts from the customers, the air was mixed with strong smell of alcohol and cologne. The music was so loud that I could feel my eardrum bursting.
I felt a sharp pain in my head reminding me that I wasn't fully healed yet.
I have no choice though, money comes first.
I kept my head down, worked fast and avoided creeps.
By the time my shift ended, my feet ached and my head pounded.
It was already two in the morning, few cars drove on the road and even fewer people walked. The further I walked, the more empty the road became. At first I could still see two to three people walking, but then they reduced to two, one and soon the streets were empty.
I hastened my steps.
Why did I have to work at a place that was too far from home?
I felt a prickle at the back of my neck.
Someone was watching me.
Tightening my hands around my coat, I turned back. The moment I did, I saw Fabian, leaning against a streetlight.
My stomach dropped.
He was dressed differently now, expensive leather jacket and neatly styled hair.
He smirked when our eyes met.
He took a slow drag from his cigarette before exhaling.
“Lee” he said, his smooth and taunting voice gave me goosebumps “Missed me?”
Run stupid! My body screamed at me.
I couldn't, I couldn't move so I just stood there, frozen in fear.
He dropped the cigarette and took a step forward. That was all I needed to break the paralysis.
I turned and ran.
It didn't matter where. I just needed to get away from the man whose voice haunted me even in my dreams.
But I wasn't fast enough. I was yanked back by his strong hand, the strong force made me crash into his firm chest.
“Still trying to run away from me, little dove?”
My heartbeat slammed against my ribs when I heard his voice close to me, and my entire body went rigid.
His dark eyes roamed around my face, and he smirked when he saw the fear in my face. “You look even prettier when you're scared” he traced his fingers on my cheeks and lifted my face up to look at him. “I missed you dove, didn't you miss me?”
I struggled against him but he didn't move an inch.
“Let go of me Fabian” I finally found my voice.
He clicked his tongue and shook his head like I disappointed him by saying those words. “I just got out, and this is how you welcome me?” His grip tightened around my wrist and he pressed my body closer to him. “You think I'll let you slip away again? I'm back for good and this time I won't let what happened last time repeat itself”
A shudder rolled down my spine. I swallowed hard and forced my voice to stay even. “You don't own me, not anymore. If you misbehave, I'll call the cops and…”
Fabian didn't let me finish. He let out a low, quiet chuckle.
“Oh, Little Dove,” he murmured, brushing my hair backwards with a tenderness that sickened me. “You still don't get it, do you?”
Then just like that, he let me go.
“I'll leave you alone for now. I have a lot of things to settle. Once I'm done with them, I'll come back to you, just like the old days. We have plenty of time”
I ran.
I ran as if I was being chased by the devil.
By the time I reached my apartment, I was already out of breath, my hands were shaking so badly, I could barely fit the key into the lock. I cursed and forced the door open. As soon as I was inside, I slammed the door and bolted every single lock.
Finally safe.
But I couldn't breathe, I clawed at my neck as if it would make me breathe.
Oh God, it was starting!
No no , not now. Please not now, my chest tightened painfully and my lungs struggled for air.
My panic attacks were starting again, it's been three years since I stopped having them.
Breathe Liam, just breathe.
I stumbled towards the cupboard and yanked it open. My fingers fumbled around till I found a plastic bag. I pressed it to my lips and took quick shallow breaths.
Crash!
I flinched, tightening my grip around the bag.
The memories I tried so hard to repress were coming back.
I saw myself on the floor, Glasses were shattering and some were slicing my skin.
“No…please” my voice was hoarse as I pleaded to no one in particular.
Another crash.
“You're mine Little Dove. You'll always be mine”
I squeezed my eyes shut and clutched my head, the plastic bag now forgotten.
“ Please… go away,” I whimpered.
But the memories didn't stop.
They never did.
I didn’t want to get up. My body felt like it weighed a ton, and my head hurt so bad, I thought it might burst. Every sound outside my door made me flinch. Even the sunlight sneaking through the curtains made my skin feel too warm. Then came the knocking. At first, it was soft.“Liam?” That voice again. Damien.I didn’t move.He knocked again, louder this time. “Liam, open the door.”I buried my head in my pillow. Maybe if I stayed still long enough, he’d leave. But the knocking turned into banging. “Liam! If you don’t open this door, I swear—”I dragged myself off the mattress and unlocked the door just in time to see him about to slam into it with his shoulder. He stopped. His eyes widened. “What the hell, Liam...?”I blinked up at him. Everything was spinning. “What... are you doing here?”“You didn’t reply to my texts. You didn’t answer your phone. What's going on with you? Did you cry? You look like shit” I ignored whatever he was saying and stared at him like he had two he
The next day, I dragged myself out of bed for school. I barely slept — again. The club closed around 1 a.m., and by the time I got home, showered, and tried to calm my racing heart, it was already close to 3 a.m. The constant late nights were wearing me down. I glanced at the mirror, and as expected, I saw the exhaustion in my eyes. My skin was pale and I looked like a ghost. I sighed and splashed cold water on my face, hoping it would wake me up. It didn’t help much.School was a blur. I sat through class after class, barely listening. My mind kept wandering back to Fabian — to that night when he whispered in my ear. I still hadn’t seen him since then, but that didn’t make me feel safe. In fact, not seeing him scared me more. It made it feel like he was just waiting for the right moment. Watching. Waiting.Every small sound made me flinch. A chair scraping the floor. A book falling off a desk. Someone slamming their locker shut. Even laughter felt too loud. I hated how paranoid I’d
I frowned at his behaviour and went to the back room. After changing into the uniform I found a corner to sit in and rest my eyes. I wanted to catch up on the sleep I had missed . My eyelids felt heavy and I dozed off leaning against the wall.I don’t know how long I was out but something soft hit my face. I stood up quickly, looking around alertly, then heaved a sigh of relief when I saw it was just Daniel. “Relax, the towel didn’t hit you that hard” I smiled and picked the towel that had slid off from my chest to the floor.“Bar’s open,” he said, taking the towel from me. “Why do you always come early just to sleep? This isn’t a hotel” I couldn’t tell him that I was scared of being alone at home, so I just stood there smiling awkwardly. He rolled his eyes and threw the towel into the laundry basket in the corner before heading out.I put on my apron and followed him out. The music was on and the thumping beats made my head hurt. Sigh. No matter what, I'm never going to
Liam's POV I dragged my tired body to the nearest table to clear it. My limbs ached, my head pounded from exhaustion and my stomach growled from hunger. The only thought that kept me going was the fact that my shift was almost over. “Table six is asking for their bill," my manager snapped at me. I swallowed back my sigh. Didn't he see I was clearing the table? Couldn't he have sent someone else? I smiled and nodded at him. I couldn't afford to lose this job. I balanced the tray in one hand and went to table six. By the time I stepped out of the restaurant, I was too exhausted to walk back home, yet too broke to call a cab. I laughed at how pitiful my life was. A message lit up my cracked screen. It was a text from my younger sister.[Mia]: Don't forget to eat, okay? Love you big bro. A smile tugged at my lips. My little sister, Mia, was the only reason I kept going, I would do anything to make her happy.I texted back.[Me]: already did. I should be telling
I got into character, smiling forcefully, balancing trays of champagne and attending one arrogant customer to another. The smell of rosemary and curry filled the air, making my stomach growl with hunger. Fuck. Not now, I took a deep breath and looked around making sure no one heard it. Just as I went to get the order of one of the customers, Daniel, one of the senior waiters snapped his fingers at me. “I'll help you with the order, go and serve an important client in private room, number eight. They requested for a new server” I frowned, there was a waiter specifically for each private room, so why would the client ask for a new one? I think Dianel read my mind cause he leaned in and whispered. “They had him fired, he coughed while serving them. Apparently, the cough contaminated his food.”I blinked in disbelief. The previous waiter was trained to serve high-end clients so why was Daniel sending me that wasn't a professional? Daniel rolled his eyes “you've wo
I flinched when his hands touched me and quickly slapped it away. “I'm fine” my voice came out harsher than I intended. Surprisingly, he didn't deal with me for slapping his hand away, he just scoffed “You look like you're about to drop dead” I blinked my eyes repeatedly “Just drop off today's assignment and go. I'll make sure to write it for you” To my surprise, he left without dropping the assignment. Well, isn't today just full of surprises? I laid down for the rest of the classes. I couldn't jot down anything anyway, my hands were useless, the wounds sting whenever I moved them. After school, I moved out sluggishly, my steps were getting heavier. Everything in front of me began spinning.I felt myself falling and braced for the impact. But I didn't hit the ground. I felt strong arms around me breaking my fall. “Liam, hey are you okay?”Damien's voice was the last thing I heard before everything went dark. White ceiling was the first thing I saw wh
“I'll try to pay back when I have the money.”“If you can't pay back, I have a better idea” Damien leaned in with a playful smirk. “What?” I took a step back.“Be my tutor” I blinked, not sure if I had heard him right. “You heard me. Be my tutor” he grinned. “At some point I have to start writing my assignments myself unless you like doing them for me” I stared at him for a solid three seconds. Then without a word, I slammed the door at his face. There's no way in hell I'm going to spend more than three minutes with that jerk. Be his tutor? That was like walking into a disaster. He was already difficult to handle, how much more tutoring him. Out of habit, I locked the door, then laid on my bed staring at the ceiling. Fabian was out.I clenched my fist, He wasn't supposed to be out till the next two years. I've been saving every penny I've ever earned, barely eating, and trying my best to survive, all so that I could leave the country before he was released. The
