Chapter 5 Selena Fainted

Xander's POV

I stood in the room, casting a cold gaze at Selena lying on the floor. Her face was pale, and a glint of pain flickered in her eyes, but it seemed to me that it was merely a façade.

"Selena, do you think you can gain my mercy by pretending to be sick?" My voice dripped with unusual coldness and obvious disdain.

Selena didn't answer; she simply closed her eyes, lacking the strength to speak.

"Whatever. I don't have time for your act." I shrugged off her condition and gestured with my eyes toward Lisandra, who sat beside me, signaling her to leave.

"Looks like Selena is still in good health," Lisandra remarked with a mocking smile before tightening her hold on me. She rubbed her ample breasts against my arm as she walked, shooting me a wink. It was evident she was unsettled by Selena's interruption earlier.

"Let's go." I shot a final look at Selena sprawled on the floor before pulling Lisandra into the car with me.

"Xander, I haven't had my treatment yet today. I'm still feeling a little sick." Lisandra lunged towards me as soon as we were in the car, her light perfume stirring something inside me.

Her hand climbed up to my neck, and then she straddled me. Desire burned in her eyes; she lightly bit her lip and teasingly ran her tongue over it.

But just as I was about to respond to Lisandra's advances, the wolf inside me suddenly let out a restless growl, and my body jerked.

"What's wrong?" Lisandra, sitting on top of me, froze, sensing my abnormality.

"Nothing, let's continue," I said, trying to suppress the annoyance I felt, and I lifted my head to kiss Lisandra's neck.

Growl!

Immediately, the wolf inside me growled again, more menacing this time, and I sensed its offense at my behavior. Lisandra, too, reacted with fear, her inner wolf whimpering low as if frightened.

This sudden interruption killed our mood instantly.

"Damn, what the hell is going on?" I mentally questioned the wolf inside me, but it remained silent.

The intense unease and pain were becoming unbearable, and I tried to ignore the feeling, but it grew stronger and stronger, almost making it impossible for me to breathe.

"It's okay, if you're too tired we can continue next time too," Lisandra said, noticing my grimace, and squeezed a kind smile from the corner of her mouth.

"Well, it occurs to me that there are a few more things I need to take care of. I'll send you back first and catch up with you a little later," I straightened my clothes and softly reassured Lisandra.

Lisandra nodded. "Okay, Xander, feel free to let me know if you need anything." She finished with a kiss towards my face and got out of the car.

I sat in the car, watching Lisandra's figure grow smaller as the inner turmoil intensified.

I couldn't ignore the inner voice any longer and quickly walked back to the house.

The moment I pushed open the door, the sight before me made my heart sink. Selena had fainted, her face even paler than moments before. Her breathing was so weak that it was almost inaudible.

"Shit!" I cursed, then hurried to Selena's side, picked her up, and placed her on the sofa.

Selena's eyes were tightly closed, her face pale, and I could sense that the wolf inside her was weak at the moment.

"Selena!" I called her name, but she didn't respond. Seeing Selena in this state, it felt as if my heart was being clutched tightly by an invisible hand, pain and guilt intertwining.

It would be reasonable for me to feel relieved seeing Selena hurt, but now my mind keeps drifting back to the cold treatment I gave her earlier, and I'm vaguely blaming myself inwardly.

"Selena, wake up," I gently patted her cheek. Selena's long eyelashes trembled slightly, but she didn't wake up.

Although my heart remained cold, I was plagued by an unnameable emotion. I took a deep breath, suppressing the irritation in my heart, and leaned down to gently lift Selena from the floor and put her back on the bed.

Her body was as light as a feather, causing a pang of heartache to shoot through me.

"Why has she become so weak?" I pondered, looking down at Selena as she slept, noticing the cuts on her palms from the crystal shards that day. There was no way she could have passed out because of that minor issue, so what was the real reason?

I furrowed my brow, contemplating the problems Selena had been facing.

This time, Selena's eyelashes fluttered slightly, as if unable to find rest even in her dreams. My fingers gently traced her cheeks, feeling the coldness.

A mix of emotions welled up in my heart—guilt and helplessness, but mostly an inexplicable attachment.

Standing up, I walked to the window, drew open the curtains, and let the moonlight in. The soft moonlight poured into the room, bringing warmth with them.

Turning back, I saw the moonlight shining on Selena's face. She appeared slightly better than moments ago, though her lips seemed dry from our earlier argument.

Returning to the bedside, I picked up the glass of water and carefully helped Selena drink.

As she swallowed, her throat moved slightly in response to my actions. I hurriedly set the glass aside, fearing she might wake up and catch me caring for her.

Yet, Selena kept her eyes tightly closed, showing no signs of waking up, leaving me with a mixture of hope and disappointment.

Feeling controlled by Selena's emotions was unpleasant. I stood up from the edge of the bed and sighed deeply.

"Damn it, Selena. I suggest you wake up sooner rather than later. You can't think you can run away from me like this," I muttered, looking at Selena coldly.
