Chapter 20 Claire's Invitation

Selena's POV

"Thank you, but I have some things to do. I'll visit you again next time I'm free with Xander." I tried to squeeze out a polite smile and gave a slight nod toward Claire.

I thought Claire would stop there, exchange pleasantries, and be done with it. But I didn't expect her to remain standing by my side, slowly removing her sunglasses. "There's a nice cafe over there, and I have a few things I'd like to discuss with you."

Claire's tone was slow and unhurried, coupled with her warm smile. Like a good friend who hasn't been seen for many years, she exuded a warmth that made it hard not to feel close to her.

"Then... well."

Although reason told me I shouldn't agree to Claire's request, I still got out of the car and followed her into the café. We had just sat down when the waitress came over respectfully.

"Cappuccino?" Claire asked me with a raised eyebrow.

"Americano will be fine."

"Oh, I forgot you're not the same little girl I first met." Claire nodded a little apologetica
