Calmly, I said, "Oh, they're strangers to me. One is a cheating ex-husband and now regrets it, while the other is an ungrateful son who prefers his father's lover over his mother."

My customers and my shop assistants looked at Quinton in a different light. Their gazes were filled with disgust and disdain.

As someone who valued his dignity and reputation, Quinton turned around and left grimly.

At closing time, I was about to head home when Quinton stopped me at the bakery entrance.

"I got into an accident because of you, and I was hospitalized for that. I nearly died, but you didn't even have the courtesy to visit me. Don't you think you're going too far with all this?" His angry tone made him sound even more heartless.

I retorted coldly, "It's my fault now? I didn't hold you at gunpoint and force you to drink, did I? Or are you suggesting that I hired someone to ram your car?"

"Mabel, I know you're jealous because I used to like Lynn. I'm sorry, okay. Are you happy now?"
