Chapter Fifty-Seven: Comforters

Marissa’s POV

I was pouring water from the cold pitcher into the glasses when Diego came inside the apartment again with his shoulders still lowered and his expression unhappy. The call of his dad might have made his night ruin, too. Like mine because of the expectations my former classmates have for me and Brylle. They might still not know that Nica and Brylle ended up with each other.

I did not want to add to a solemn atmosphere, so I tried smiling while attending to Diego. I pulled the chair for him to sit, and he immediately did with a heavy sigh at the end.

“Are you good?” I asked out of concern.

“My mom told him that I impregnated you,” he answered without going through ways of saying it easily. He looked up at me with a pair of sad eyes. “He wants to meet you.”

I blinked and could not find any word for me to say. Instead, I just placed back the cold pitcher on the table as I went to the chair opposite his. He followed me sitting down as silence accompanied us to our dinner.
