Marissa's POV

I did not attend to my office work and to regard what my boss was thinking. As long as I submit my excuse letter for my absence at work, I don’t have to worry about him anymore. Not to mention that he is mad at something that has to do with me that I have no idea whatsoever.

I have no time for him, anyway, right now.

My grandmother is more important than anything or anyone. Nica has been a thoughtful, caring, and loving best friend ever since we were in college. She never got tired of proving that even until now we have jobs. She was also the one who I ran to when my grandmother was unconscious and who was with me here in the hospital.

For the past few days, she always brings fruits and offers to help me take care of my grandmother. "Thank you so much," I said to her when we both went to Starbucks and purchased our coffees. "I would have died in a panic if you did not show up when my grandmother collapsed. You are one of a kind, Nica."

Nica sipped on her coffee and pro

Marissa's POV“Because I find my reason as confidential, and I find you not very caring and sensitive in everyone’s reason, sir,” I explained. “Am I not right on that factor?"He tilted his head and squinted his eyes. “You are only reckoning that I am a heartless person, Miss Dela Cruz," he said.“Are you not?”He did not speak instantly and thinned his lips. I remained unfazed and did not even regret telling what I thought. Before one of us could even utter a word, the elevator opened again and all of the people inside started to withdraw one by one, until the two of us were alone. I immediately stepped back away from him and noticed that I was chasing my breath. I was breathless when we were closed, and it was just awkward. I have to admit that.“I am not used to not having you around in my office, Miss Dela Cruz,” he muttered when he straightened up as if that was the truth he was holding back from himself. “I need you there. When your absence became frequent, I had to admit that I

  • To Love My Boss   Chapter Twenty-One: Take Advantage

Marissa's POVI hung my mouth in response to him. I actually did not expect him to answer that since it was too absurd and surreal. What does he mean that he wants to marry me? What about the list of perfect ladies that I prepared for him so he could pick whom he has discerned?Am I on the list? No, I am not! I am his secretary! At first, I laughed it off and then paused when he did not laugh like me. So he must be serious then! I dropped my jaw and started shaking my head.Due to the surprise I was still savoring, I found myself being dragged away by Mr. Montero from the elevator as there were next passengers who wanted to ride and we did not want to be nuisances. He gently guided me out of the hospital and went to the garden with the sunset to end the day. His back was still turned to me as he let go of my hand gently.“Mr. Montero,” I mumbled and blinked repeatedly, almost laughing out of fun. “What were you talking about? You want me to be your.... woah... do you even hear yoursel

Marissa's POV“What do I get from this, then?” I said and crossed my arms. My forehead held high, ready to negotiate on his offer. “What if I approve to be your wife?”The hope in his eyes was evident, so he straightened up as if he were going to war. “Anything you want. Tell me your price and I will negotiate," he said. I squinted my eyes and pouted for a minute, meaningfully trying to make him wait to create suspense. “Fine,” I answered and nodded slowly. “I will send an email to you tonight. I want a contract for me to be assured that you will pay my price. On that contract, I will input my conditions to be followed during my participation on your contract."“I will make the contract as soon as you give me an email,” he said and smirked. “Are you going to work tomorrow, then? That only means you are not going to be absent, right?"I almost furrowed my eyebrows as I saw slight enthusiasm. Why does he care if I go to work? If this is any other case and he is not asking for my help,

Marissa's POVAm I doing the right thing, though?I looked at the massive building where I work from the outside after I got out of the taxi this morning - the VC Holdings Inc. Montero's Corporation is the largest building among the others in the city. I still remember how I nervously walked inside the building for the first time three years ago when I conducted an interview inside before I was accepted as the CEO’s secretary. When I got the position, all I could think about was to make my grandmother and myself proud. I promised myself that after I gained enough experience and skills, I would go abroad to earn more money and have the grandiose and successful career I want to have in life. But for some reason, now I am walking inside the building with the same nervousness and awkward walk. It is not because I will have an interview again, though. I am now in the building to finalize the contract Mr. Montero and I made. A contract that I do not know if it would change my life or not s

Marissa's POVI looked up to him finally. "Did you read mine, sir?" I asked. "I know that it could be too much, but I do not want my worth to be wasted just for the mere fact that I am your secretary."Mr. Montero had a ghost of a smile on his lips before answering. "Of course. All of your conditions and requested benefits are implemented. No exceptions," he said and tilted his head with his mysterious, prolonged gaze. "And I know how capable of a woman you are, so I will follow what you want."I averted my stare at him and focused on the papers plastered on the table. I read them discreetly and nodded in satisfaction. But before I signed them, I looked at him again, who had been staring at me for a long time. It's awkward, alright? I am not used to being showered with focus and attention just like he is doing to me right now. Before, he just rolls his eyes or disregards my presence."You read all of them?" I made sure and arched my eyebrow. "And I understood each one of them," he a

  • To Love My Boss   Chapter Twenty-Five: I Wanted To See You

Marissa’s POVThe exhaustion showered all over me as I aggressively sat on the swivel chair in my cubicle after a long day at work. Mr. Diego Montero attended two long formal conferences, three to four hours, and during those respective times, all I did was stand with my pair of killer five-inch heels.I know I am already accustomed to my job, but sometimes, my body cannot help but also be battered with exhaustion and dullness. I grabbed the mug from my desk and put it under the water dispenser. After pouring hot water, I put coffee powder and stirred it using a small spoon. I rested my back on the backrest and circled half to see the majestic view of the city. While I was having my siesta, my phone beeped. It must be a text message. When I looked at the screen, it was Nica who texted me.From: NicaHey. I am here in the hospital where your grandmother is confined. I brought some flowers and fruits for her.I immediately smiled in appreciation as I read the message from my best friend

"You're laughing..."“Nothing,” he answered and avoided his gaze, now licking his lower lip. “I don’t know, but it feels weird to be called by you with my first name.”“I know,” I said in dismay. “That is why I should continue calling you formally-““No! No! I didn't mean it that way. I like you saying my name!” he defended in a desperate tone.“Huh?” I mumbled and my cheeks flushed red. “Uhhh… is that so?” I had to lower my head. “O-Okay… Diego.”I heard him inhale deeply, and I had to look up again to see his reaction. He was already smiling brightly with his sparkling eyes and enthusiastic nods of his head."That would be fine," he said. "Okay, you are already dismissed.""Thank you."I did not look at his face anymore and just straightly went out of the building without sweating. Thankfully, he did not try to chase me after going out of the building until I got a taxi for myself to the hospital. I was thinking a

Her hair was already done into ponytails and is currently wearing the dress I just bought for her in the mall."No," I said and smiled at her. "The park is too dangerous, my love. You have to understand me.""Nanny! Help me!" she said and then looked at Nanny Elisa. Nanny Elis

Marissa’s POV I could feel the discrete and watchful stares of Nica and Brylle in front of me. I was just staring at the hot coffee inside a huge mug in front of me. They made sure I ate today, even though it was not a lot. It already satisfied them that I had something in my stomach. “I know you won’t open up to us,” Nica said in the middle of the deafening silence. “But I want you to know that Brylle and I will be here for you.” My eyes slowly darted on both of them. They were beside each other and their hands underneath were obviously intertwined just by the visual of their hands together. The only thing that was separating us was the dining table. Currently, we are in the dining area in front of me. The night was still young. “I am leaving tomorrow,” I started with a lump on my throat, but my eyes are already tired from crying. “And I don’t know if I will be back.” “What?” Brylle exclaimed. “What do you mean?” “Madame Margarita was the primary reason why my contract with Di

Marissa’s POV“Brylle! Oh, my goodness! What happened to you?!” Nica exclaimed in shock. The moment I let her inside the apartment, Nica rushed to Brylle who was caressing the white plaster on his right cheek. She was pressing his wound, while he kept telling her that it was alright. I could not help but furrow my eyebrows at how they care for each other. I can see it. “Marissa,” Nica mumbled my name and stood up so he could face me. “Who did this to him?”I crossed my arms after I locked the door of the living room. “It was Diego Montero,” I answered. “I am sorry.”Her expression changed from a serious one to a concerned one. The moment she did that, I already retreated. I shook my head.“We can talk tomorrow. For now, you should rest together with Brylle. Spend the night. I already prepared everything in my grandmother’s room. You can use it,” I said. “I’ll go to my room now.”I did not let her speak anymore and turned my back on them already. • To Love My Boss    Chapter Ninety-Two: Brylle Going To Marissa's House

Marissa’s POV“You said you wanted to talk to me,” I said coldly as I watched the stars above me with deadpan eyes. “I am free tomorrow. You can bring Brylle over. I will text where.”I heard Nica inhale sharply. “Brylle would be grateful to talk to you,” she mumbled from the other line. He said he wanted closure.”“I know,” I said and looked down at the pavement. “I also need that, too.”The silence stretched as we shared it through the lines of our cellphones. I bit my lower lip as I realized that I had just killed my pride by deciding to talk to Brylle and Nica. Maybe I was also too hard on both of them over the years I was friends with them. Nica maybe was right. I was selfish and self-entitled.The call briefly ended. My sightseeing through the stars prolonged and I was too drowned in them that I barely recognized how late the night was already.Or maybe because I was still recalling how Madame Margarita and I negotiated that I will have to cut my connection with Diego. Because w

Diego’s POVI played with the red wine inside my glass as Tito George and Ms. Zeana Tan were talking business in front of me. You look like you're occupied,” he concluded.“O-Oh,” I exclaimed and noticed that the both of them were just watching me thinking deeply. Marissa’s POVMy eyes stayed on the cup of hot lemon tea being poured by the maid, but I could still sense how Madame Margarita was staring at me suspiciously. When the maid transferred to her cup, I raised my eyes to her again. She squinted her eyes, while I still instilled my deadpan stare. “I will still not believe that you intend to not marry Diego after you said yes to him,” she said. “If so, what made you change your mind? Were you scared because I did not approve of you?” “No,” I confidently said. “I was willing to win you over.”“You will not win me.”“I know,” I also agreed, making her left eyebrow raise. “That is why retreating to the marriage would also be a good thing.”“I see where you are going.”“And I also know that you are only faking your illness,” she said. “You don’t have cancer.”Because of what I revealed, she flinched a little bit and was motionless for a minute. She tried to not make it obvious, but when she tried to open her mouth, it was trembling. In the e
